Thought I should share a direct link to a thread covering THE Conspiracy
that NO ONE ELSE is.
Now I'll warn that it's a long and eclectic thread
(108 pages to date and nearly 20,000 hits since march 2007),

THE Government denied there is anything sinister about the fact it launched a review into the pros and cons of nuclear power around the same time a Liberal powerbroker set up a nuclear energy company.
Prime Minister John Howard
admitted in parliament to knowing
that former Liberal Party treasurer Ron Walker was setting up the company,
which was registered just days before
the establishment of the nuclear taskforce.
But Mr Howard denied there was anything sinister
about his discussions with Mr Walker.
Mr Howard refused to elaborate on the issue last night as he headed into a function organised by the Menzies Research Centre.
Mr Walker and fellow businessmen
Robert Champion de Crespigny and
Hugh Morgan
registered Australian Nuclear Energy (ANE) Pty Ltd on June 1 last year,
five days before Mr Howard set up his prime ministerial taskforce.
That taskforce, headed by
former Telstra chief Ziggy Switkowski,
found that a network of 25 nuclear reactors built within kilometres
of suburban homes could be supplying a third of Australia's power by 2050.
ANE was forced to deny newspaper reports that it was planning to build Australia's first nuclear power station in either Victoria or South Australia.

Ron Walker
Ronald Joseph Walker AC CBE (born September, 1939) is an Australian businessman renowned in Melbourne for his work in managing sporting events.
History
Walker attended Caulfield Grammar School, and served as the Lord Mayor of Melbourne from 1974 to 1976. He became a prominent Liberal Party figure, working as national treasurer of the party - an honorary position - from 1987 to 2002.
In 1988 he was appointed as a commissioner for Melbourne's 1996 Olympics bid to host the Games.
His relationship with former Victorian Premier Jeff Kennett - a Liberal Party politician - helped him to become the Chairman of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, after Walker helped deliver Melbourne the hosting rights for the event from Adelaide in 1993.
However, it was Labor Premier Joan Kirner - Kennett's immediate predecessor - who appointed Walker as chairman of the Melbourne Major Events Company, the body which managed both the bids for the Grand Prix and the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
Walker is currently the Chairman of Melbourne 2006, the organising body for the Games.
During his business career he has held large stakes in companies such as People Telecom, Prime Life and Buka Minerals.
In 1976 he held a partnership with another Melbourne businessman, Lloyd Williams.
The pair formed a property development company called Hudson Conway, which developed the Crown Casino complex in Melbourne and was the casino's first operator.
In 2000, Mr Walker resigned from Hudson Conway, netting approximately $86 million from the sale of his shares.
His interests include a collection of classic cars and property.
He also serves as Chairman of St Vincent’s Hospital Microsurgery Foundation, John Fairfax Holdings, a media company which publishes both Melbourne' The Age and Sydney's Sydney Morning Herald newspaper.

In 1977 Walker was named as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire, and in 1987 was named as an Officer of the Order of Australia.

Joan Elizabeth Kirner (born 20 June 1938), Australian politician,
was the first female Premier of Victoria,
a position she held for two years prior to a landslide election defeat.
Biography
Kirner was born Joan Hood
in Melbourne and was educated at state and private schools
and at the University of Melbourne,
where she graduated in arts and completed a teaching qualification.
She taught in state schools and became active in school and parents' organisations.
In 1960 she married Ron Kirner, with whom she had three children.
She was President of the Victorian Federation of States School Parents' Clubs,
an influential education lobby from 1971 to 1977
and its executive officer from 1978 to 1982.

Career
Kirner joined the Australian Labor Party in 1978
and became a member of its Socialist Left faction.
In 1982 she was elected as a Labor member of the Victorian Legislative Council, the upper house of the Victorian Parliament. In 1985 she was elected to the Cabinet of John Cain's Labor government and became Minister for Conservation, Forests and Lands. She proposed the Fauna and Flora Guarantee Act (1986), the first Australian legislation which gave legal protection of rare species.

Kirner was instrumental in the formation of the first Landcare groups.
At the 1988 election Kirner shifted to the Legislative Assembly,
becoming MP for Williamstown, and was promoted to the Education portfolio.
In this portfolio Kirner carried out a series of controversial reforms
aimed at reducing what Kirner saw as the class-based inequity
of the education system, culminating in a new system of assessment,
the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE).

Melbourne's conservative press reacted with hostility to a Premier from the Socialist Left, dubbing her "Mother Russia" and other pejorative names.
She was lampooned alternatively as a sinister commissar and as a frumpy housewife in a polkadot dress. She seemed unfazed and gradually won some respect, although she was unable to restore the government's standing.
During 1991 and 1992 Kirner took several decisions to cut government spending and raise revenue to some extent. Some of these were actively opposed by trade unions and some members of the government.
Among her advisers at this time was Steve Bracks[u], who later succeeded her as MP for Williamstown and who became Premier in 1999. The lessons Bracks learned during the Kirner years contributed to the fiscal conservatism and caution of the Bracks government.

Since leaving Parliament Kirner has remained active in community affairs and politics.
Initially this led her to a leading role in the Landcare movement.
Subsequently she has devoted her energies to the Australian affiliate of Emily's List, an organisation which promotes women's careers in politics.
Kirner was one of the leaders of the movement in the Labor Party to adopt a policy of setting targets for the number of women candidates in winnable electorates. She has repeatedly publicly supported candidates identified with her Socialist Left faction.
Since January 2006, Kirner has been the Chair of the Ministerial Advisory Committee for Victorian Communities.
In 1993 she famously appeared on The Late Show with colleague David White, MLA, in a musical skit performing Joan Jett's I Love Rock 'N Roll. This brief performance was covered nationally by the media.

Rumours abound that a certain
[color=red]Mr de Crespigny
has been seen around London in recent days.
One even went as far as to
pin him down talking to Willy McLucas of Thistle Mining at the Berkeley Hotel, though quite what the two would have in common is not immediately obvious. Willy is well known, but to a rather smaller circle than Robert who has featured on the world’s mining stage to a greater or lesser degree for many a year.
Claims to noble French ancestry are just one factor separating Robert Champion de Crespigny from his fellow Australians. A fortune estimated at A$170 million, and a ranking as one of the richest 200 people in the country is another.
Born into a Melbourne medical family, 53 year-old de Crespigny disappointed his father by pursuing studies in commerce and accounting.
It was his chosen profession as an accountant which led him to make the long drive across Australia in 1972 when still only 21 to work in the Perth office of Hungerford Hancock and Ofner, an Aussie accounting firm which eventually emerged as part of KPMG.
His work pushing a green biro around the accounts of other companies soon tired the young de Crespigny as he watched the west coast business community enjoy repeated booms in the nickel, oil, gold and diamonds.
In 1986, armed with a modest A$500,000 he acquired control of a small gold miner called Amad, re-naming it Normandy Mining (the French connection!) and quickly launching it on a series of takeover raids which eventually earned him the crown as Australia’s biggest gold producer.
[B][SIZE=7][color=blue]The rise and rise of Normandy was achieved more by the deft dealings of de Crespigny than discovery in the field. In a series of acquisitions he added Poseidon, Gold Mines of Kalgoorlie, North Flinders Mines, Great Central Mines, and the French mineral exploration business, La Source.[/color][/color][/b]
By 2001, and with gold in the doldrums, de Crespigny was happy to become prey rather than predator, orchestrating a takeover dual for Normandy between Newmont Mining and a business with which he was always rumoured to have had a close relationship, Anglo American – or at least its gold arm, AngloGold.
Whether there was a link between de Crespigny and the Oppenheimer family who controlled Anglo and De Beers has never been proved. But, if there was it was certainly broken (bull! just a distracting 'false disconnect') when control of Normandy, including de Crespigny’s share, passed to Newmont.
After the takeover, de Crespigny opted for the quiet life in his new home of Adelaide. He accepted a few “worthy” positions, such as Chancellor of Adelaide University, chairman of the state government’s Economic Development Board, and chairman of the South Australian Museum.
No-one really believed that life of semi-retirement would suit de Crespigny. It was only a matter of time before be bounced back – which he did with a deal involving Buka Minerals in June, and a role in a corporate brawl over a financially troubled business called Primelife which specialises in building and managing retirement villages around Australia.
But Buka, Primelife and a strange investment in the milk and cheese industry (he is one of Australia’s biggest milk producers) should be seen as diversions for a man who wants the world to be his playground. De Crespigny is a man who enjoys frying big fish and it is only a matter of time before he elbows himself a place at the global mining table. He is clearly not in London to cut cane.

Food firm to boost Maryborough jobs

Seventy-five jobs will be created in the central Victorian town of Maryborough, with a food company setting up in a former factory site.
The Minister for Regional Development, John Brumby,
says Melbourne-based company Matisse will expand its business to the town.
He says the company is investing more than $10 million and production
will start in September.
"They're expanding their business here, they're doing that in partnership with
CRF Colac Otway Foods which many people would know are a very big company
in Colac.
They're producing a range of
essentially Italian
pre-prepared products," he said.
"The State Government assisted by securing the investment here
with making sure all the infrastructure on the site was right."
Meanwhile, ground water will be used to boost the town's water supplies.
From next year, 505 megalitres of water will be provided from
an aquifer near Carisbrook annually.
Maryborough is on stage four water restrictions and its water storages are just over 9.5 per cent full.
The Member for Ripon, Joe Helper, says the ground water will improve the security of future supplies.
"It's a good ground water supply
it's of very, very high quality
and it will certainly assist in Maryborough in looking forward in
allowing for growth
and in allowing for a more secure supply," he said.

The Wimmera-Mallee's water authority says it needs to sell water from
the Grampians headworks to make the Wimmera-Mallee pipeline project viable.
A $30 million pipeline will use water saved by the Wimmera Mallee Pipeline
to secure water supplies to Hamilton and two other communities.
The Nationals Member for Mallee, John Forrest, and a group along the Yarriambiack Creek, are opposing the plan, saying the water should be used
for development and environmental flows in the Wimmera-Mallee.
But Grampians Wimmera-Mallee Water's Andrew Rose says
environmental water
and water earmarked for future regional development
is quarantined
from that being sold to Wannon Water.
"From our perspective
the water's not available
until we have made the savings in the pipeline,
so we have to get substantial completion of the Wimmera-Mallee pipeline
before that water can be allocated anywhere,"
he said.
