I find it unusual that the temperature outside for the last day has been holding steady around 42-45 degrees, and that the forecast calls for just exactly more of the same for the next 12-24 hours with lowering skies and rain or drizzle. Temperature is supposed to fluctuate during day, right? Anyone?

It may indeed be a bit unusual for the air temperature to maintain a 3° variance for days at a time, but there are quite a number of different forces that, if combined just right, will produce such a flat day/night difference. A very deep cloud deck, accompanied by little or no vertical or horizontal circulation, would be a pretty good formula for the current conditions in your area...
