Weather Modification in the Midwest

 This is one look at todays satelite pixs. The spokesman for for Chicago's emergency alert siren and storm warnings was told by the Weather Service that there was no need to alarm the public.He went on to say the sky instantly turned black and over 2" of rain drenched the city.There are numerous people stating the same thing about the skies instantly turning black. Some input from our Chicagoland members would be appreciated.

I'm in Rockford just approx 90 miles west of Chicago. This afternoon, clouds brewed right above head and got blacker and blacker, no rain here but the wind took them out East all at once later on (even though there was no wind below), the sky has cleared up a bit but we are supposed to get rain tonight. This is not the first time I've witnessed them brewing a storm, in a complete circular fashion over head, with clear skies around beneath, and then blow the whole system out at once to the East. Most storms, in the past, have rolled in from an area, moved in like from the west or whatever, and then continued on. This is completely different.

The weather in East Central Kansas has been hot and humid. We seem to have had more rainfall in August than normal, but I don't keep up on the percipation stats. The vegetation is growing differently, due to a late frost this past Spring.
Last week I observed an instantaneous white-out condition, the first time ever. I'm posting on this thread because of the report of an instant black sky in Chicago. Maybe my observation is similar.
I did not directly see the sky change 'states'. I was driving to work about 6:30 AM. The sun was up, and the sky was a deep, old fashion blue. There were a couple of wispy horse-tail clouds in the sky, but the rest of it was clear and beautiful. I went into a convenience store to buy a cup of coffee. When I left the store, the sky was completely 'whited-out'. The transition took less than two minutes, not enough time for gradual dispersion of particulates or natural cloud reformation.
It seemed to me someone or something threw a switch, and put up the 'sun block shield'.

I've seen these storm clouds very low in the sky too. I don't remember seeing that or do I have selective memory? |
