ST. LOUIS — Confidential contracts detailing Monsanto Co.'s business practices reveal how the world's biggest seed developer is squeezing competitors, controlling smaller seed companies and protecting its dominance over the multibillion-dollar market for genetically altered crops, an Associated Press investigation has found.

5. Monsanto tightens control over nation's food supply
An Associated Press (AP) investigation has detailed practices by seed giant Monsanto that allow it to control access to its seeds and stifle competition. For example, Monsanto licensing agreements bar independent biotechnology companies from breeding plants that include both genes from Monsanto and genes from any of its rivals. Since 95 percent of the soybeans and 80 percent of the corn grown in the United States are Monsanto products, these agreements hobble the improvement of competitors' products and put Monsanto in a position to dominate the U.S. grain supply, which could pave the way for increases in food prices. This is so true. No conspiracy here. Facts can be found to back up every word.
The terminator seed will stop brown bagging, and no longer will a farmer be able to save his seeds for the next years harvest.
Of course the patents are owned according to the security and exchange commission by Delta & Pineland D&PL and the United States of America as represented by the Secretary of Agriculture.
And here is a quote from D&PL themselves: "their patent gives them the “prospect of opening significant world wide seed markets to the sale of transgenic technology in varietal crops in which crop seed currently is saved and used in subsequent seasons as planting seed”.
The Terminator seed is genetically structured to commit suicide after one harvest.
Makes the Gates/Monsanto seed bank that opened in the Barents Sea area recently, when seeds are already stored in designated seed banks around the world, look suspicious. |
