Virus Alert PostWed Feb 07, 2001 4:33 pm  Reply with quote

A recent email received by a Chemtrail activist from a debunker contained a virus.

This was surely unintentional, however it underscores the need for everyone to have virus checking software installed on their computers. This particular virus, the KAK Worm, is very common.

quote:

Has your email or PC been behaving oddly recently with unusual 'Driver Memory' and 'Registry Error' messages appearing on your screen? Or perhaps you've lost the ability to print emails from Outlook Express or the PC switches itself off for no apparent reason? If so then Kak, or one of its cousins, is a prime suspect.

If you think you are infected with the Kak worm, which spreads itself using Microsoft Outlook Express, you can check this via Outlook. (Check the Signature option via Tools --> Options --> Signatures --> (result here) - It should be blank or have a signature you've made, providing you use them. If it's linking to a file called something like 'kak.htm' from your windows system folder, then you've got the virus.

The Kak worm degrades Windows performance and shuts it down on the 1st of the month if the hour is 1700.

There are free utilities available on the the net to disinfect your computer of the KAK Worm.

Thanks for the warning Thermit. I use Norton 2000 and have live update. This takes care of all the old stuff at least, I am assuming. But I will check. UGH.

Here's a free software program found on the front page of surfingtheapocalypse. It's called Vcatch and is specifically designed to filter email, file sharing and so on from viruses, and it's updated every day. Looks like a very good deal.

Good deal for all of us in the Windows World, sedona. The person who forwarded this email to me, didn't even know it was infected, because they run under Linux. Thanks to Microsoft for making it so easy to write viruses...

I went through this kak worm thing last fall, the "fix" involves dumping all stored email (both sent and recieved and drafts and outbox) then install the 'Patch" from microsoft, then install the cleaner. Read more here.
http://www.txol.net/viruses/kak.htm

If you dont do all this stuff you can reinfect your system over and over, but dont dump your email unless you know for sure you actually have the kak worm.

Zone Alarm is "good Stuff" but it won't stop virus transmission. But since you bring it up, has anyone just in the last two days started getting zone alarms that leave a signature of "promo #.cuica.net" with an ISP of 216.136.170.### ?
I had left Zone Alarm diabled recently as it seemed to no longer be catching anything, then I noticed that the two "green monitors" on the lower right tool bar started "talking" when I was not going anywhere, so I reinstalled ZA and "BINGO" instant ZA.

The thing about Zone Alarm is that it can usurp Norton 2000 or other antivrus programs in the start-up and you might not notice, since the antivrus program still will be listed as viable. When this happens, you think you have virus protection, but you don't. And since this start-up stand-off problem was also a genuine bug in Norton 2000, the 2 fixes for the timing problem offered by Symantec will not work either: Zone Alarm overwhelms it all. This is really a pain to fix. I finally just uninstalled Zone Alarm and the rest was easy. I think the smart thing to do if you run Windows (which is already not the smart thing to do, but Linux is beyond me and Netscape's a pain also)is to use just one line of software for virus and security protection. Norton or McAffee, but chose one line and it all works together more easily.

As for Micro$oft: I always thought that Windows itself is nothing but a string of bugs masquerading as an operating system.

but before anything goes anywhere,

That sounds good. But I can't figure out how to make them even load together in the first place.

I was wondering how vcatch would get along with my zone alarm; so far so good~ they both load together, hang together, no bickering as yet. My mail is a little slower to get into (my rocket ship has spoiled me) but I can live with that. What I can't live with is chemtrails.

I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!
