So what's next, altering the statue itself because Lincoln doesn't look conservative enough? Maybe shave a little off of his beard and give him a "Gays Suck" pendant?
How do the right-wingers absolve themselves of Cheney in all of this who voted against having a holiday for Martin Luther King Jr.? Would Lincoln, a man who respected equal rights enough to support Emancipation get in line with a bigot like Cheney?
These people have no right messing with this memorial.

To all:
In the wake of the proposed altering of the video at the Lincoln Memorial to make it emphasize evident Christian-like cults, such as the Promise Keepers, and to praise the Iraqi War, KNOW-THIS suggests they may be planning to shave Lincoln's beard, to make him look more conservative. Zoobie555 says they may cut his head off altogether and replace it with Bush's. Joking, perhaps, but they are apparently planning on altering physical representations of past presidents!
If you look top the web page, http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4667063.stm, you will see the article, "Mount Rushmore to get a facelift". Supposedly out of concern over lichens and dirt from the past 65 years causing the monuments of Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt and Lincoln to deteriorate, workmen are going to be sent up to spray wash them clean - they claim! - with high pressure hoses. The monuments have stood this long, with no encroaching problems, and the mountains have stood for millions of years, relatively pristine, yet they say there is cause for concern! Isn’t rain supposed to wash dirt away? And, if lichen gets as deeply entrenched as they seem to fear, washing it away could really loosen the rock! And don't expect that they won't find "reasons" to bring in sand blasting equipment, too. The purpose, apparently, is to incise subliminal influences into the visages of the presidents! A malicious deepening of the lines around Thomas Jefferson's mouth; a mendacious smirk on Abraham Lincoln; George Washington being given a suggestive trace of George Bush's hissing reptilian version of a laugh, when he talks about Iraqi insurgents, trying to keep their country from being stolen by Halliburton, being gunned down by evident thugs in military dress!
Collect any old photos you can of Mount Rushmore now, while they're still available, so you'll still have more honest depictions, with deliberately noble expressions, to look on. Warn everyone else to collect old pictures, too, so they'll still have something honorable to look at. And tell them never to visit Mount Rushmore ever again! If government is going to try to use subliminal suggestion to convince us that cruelty is the ideal, we are not obligated to fall for it!

Someone will have to do a before and after picture collage of the Rushmore monuments so we can identify any potential changes after the cosmetic re-constructive face-lift.
