And yet they're adamantly opposed to raising minimum wage... PostWed Jul 13, 2005 2:25 pm  Reply with quote

...for those that actually need it because it would be too much of a burden on the poor baby corporate crooks that would rather pay the Chinese and illegal aliens to do their work (the worthless republicans that is). Look who they feel deserves yet another raise though.

Lawmakers Vote Themselves A Pay Raise

quote:
Jun 29, 2005 - (CAPITOL HILL 6/29/05 AP) _ The House has agreed to a 31-hundred-dollar pay raise for Congress next year.

Lawmakers will automatically receive the raise, which is officially considered a cost of living adjustment, since the House blocked a bid to force an up-or-down vote on the pay raise.

How about a cost of living adjustment for the rest of the American f@#$% people? The wealthy assholes in this country have done great with their tax cuts while the vast majority continues to live in abject poverty!

Take South Dakota for example:

The same crooked party that doesn't hesitate for a second to vote another raise for themselves

quote:
Democratic South Dakota legislators have pushed for years to raise the state minimum wage. But business interests have opposed it, and the strong Republican majority has always killed the idea.

quote:
A state legislative committee rejected a Democrat-sponsored bill this year that would have raised the minimum wage to $6.25 an hour by April 1, 2006, in three steps.

Business interests said during consideration of the bill that most South Dakotans already make more than the minimum wage. Other opponents said forcing employers to pay higher salaries would result in some layoffs.

How any hard working member of the middle class could ever call themselves a republican is beyond me. Chances are it's for religious reasons too. They are f@#$% stupid, plain and simple!

I actually found a great article tying the two together:

Reps 'deserve' a raise, but not minimum-wage earners?

quote:
Radical, regressive Republicans who control the House of Representatives, led by Tom DeLay and aided and abetted by Jo Ann Davis, have orchestrated a pay raise for themselves while also adopting the largest federal budget deficit ever.

How can they believe it is morally defensible to approve a $3,100 pay raise for themselves (their salary will now be $165,200 a year) while blocking every effort to adjust the minimum wage for ordinary, hard-working Americans?

Minimum wage hasn't increased in seven years. The Republican majority should be ashamed that their obstructionism has resulted in the second longest period of congressional do-nothingness in minimum wage history.

Perhaps DeLay and Davis haven't noticed what average Americans face every day. The cost of a gallon of gas has moved from $1.47 in 2001 to well over $2. College tuition costs are up more than 28 percent. Health-care premiums are skyrocketing, and everywhere you look costs are spiraling.

But then again, as Mr. DeLay points out, "It's not a pay raise. It's an adjustment so that they're not losing their purchasing power."

Today the erosion of purchasing power, which is now close to a 50-year low, has left minimum wage workers with little hope and much desperation.

Davis, DeLay, and the rest of the Republican party should stop blocking Democratic-sponsored legislation that only moderately increases the minimum wage.

If our elected representatives, who have failed in their handling of fed- eral government spending, feel they deserve a raise, then, after almost a decade, average, hard-working Americans do, too.

It's a despicable act! There should be a massive pay decrease announced for every republican politician out there, a mandatory trip to Iraq forcing them to fight their own war and then a final trip to China to work the rest of their miserable lives in a foreign sweatshop! It's about time these filthy lowlifes got to experience their own atrocious policies firsthand.

I am getting really sick and tired of these pieces of s!@# ruining this country for their own selfish reasons. If nothing else, they should all be systematically deported!
