Gas Prices are a Joke!!!!!! PostMon Jun 05, 2006 8:05 pm  Reply with quote

As if this wasn't already ridiculous enough... oil prices are going up again, this time because of a threat by the Iranian president. What a joke!!! Or maybe it's because 6 people were kidnapped off an oil rig off the coast of Africa! 6 freekin' people raise the price of oil around the world?!?! How many more excuses can they come up with to keep the prices rising?!?! I'm getting really sick of hearing that costs are going up because Abdul, who works in an oil field in Iran, stubbed his big toe, causing worldwide panic! We have one of the highest reserve supplies this country has seen in almost 10 years... 10 years!!!! And heating fuel costs should be the lowest in years on account of the extremely mild Winter most of the States experienced. The supply must be literally overflowing.
So tell me another one about how a camel broke wind in Iraq, causing oil to jump to $90 a barrel!! I plan to use as little gas as possible until these hilarious prices fall again. I'd love to see them keep raising prices if the global demand drops bigtime. Pretty soon they'd be pouring it into the sands just to keep the supplies lower.... or maybe they already do. lol! Evil or Very Mad

You're on to something PostTue Jun 06, 2006 1:02 am  Reply with quote

Yeah, the oil companies have us all by the balls. The oil producing countries are blatantly manipulating wholesale costs by limiting production. That's their right to do so and we have no control over it anyway (invading an oil rich country didn't even help). The problem I have is why gas prices are similarly manipulated in the US by domestic corporations. For example, why does Exxon post it's highest profits for a quater EVER when oil prices are at their highest ever? It's because oil companies don't open their books for oversight. They use high oil prices for an excuse to raise prices far above what they need to to maintain their profit margin. It's good ol' fashion price gouging.
Since we cannot control the supply of oil (we import over 3/4 of our oil), we must control our demand to bring prices down. There are many ways to do this, which we've all known about for years. Drive less, drive more fuel efficient vehicles, carpool, walk, ride a bike, take public transportation, don't speed on the freeway, avoid the drive-thru....the list goes on and on. We've all heard these ideas before, but we don't change our habits one bit. I think that people who choose to drive vehicles with a V6 or V8 engine, when they don't really need to, don't have any right to bitch about gas prices because they are part of the problem.
I'm even pessimistic about the results if we somehow did manage to decrease our demand. I'm convinced the oil companies are going to charge us whatever they want regardless because our government has given them the power to do so.
I may sound like a commie for saying this, but I think our government should have more control over our gas supply. Our economy and national security are tied to oil/gas, so to me it doesn't make sense to allow a handful of greedy corporations to keep secret accounting books and rake in record profits while the American people and economy suffer. OPEC overtly manipulates the price of oi, but at least they're up front about it. However, the oil companies secretly manipulate gas prices at the pump. My anger goes out to the oil companies and our leadership (but what should I expect from a Texas big-businessman who lives in the oil companies' pockets).
Aerixx, I agree that we are being bent over by The Man. I just hope you aren't driving a Hummer...

I couldn't agree with you more Hoss on just about everything. I'm not a big "anti-Bush" person or anything like that but I think this country is more than ready for a change of leadership. This is not the same country I grew up in. Back then the average person had a decent chance to prosper. Now it takes all you can do to get by it seems. This country is headed for a big "burn-out". I just hope to still be here to help sweep up the ashes. And... don't worry Hoss, I drive a Dodge Neon and wouldn't be caught dead in a gas-guzzling Hummer (or similar).... just not my style. Good luck all!

Gas prices are going to increase no matter what we do.

Why? because democracy (whatever was left) is thinning out dangerously.

I mentioned this before to some other folks "become as self sufficient as you can".

This is the beginning my friends.

A lot of folks laughed when I told them about 8 months ago that gas prices were going to go up ridiculously.

My prediction for the future at this moment.

They are going to keep going up, never to fall back again.

Pretty soon we'll have war with Iran (it's just a matter of time) and when that happens expect a worldwide deppression to usher in the police state bigtime.

Fema fun camps here we come!

Prepare folks, become self sufficient in all ways, food, water and especially energy.

Don't let them catch you with your pants down, they ( the elite ) are not polite people.

They shoot first (chemtrails) and ask questions later.
