Dear Dr. Von Eschenbach:
When you were working for the National Cancer Institute you declared a goal of "eliminating suffering and death due to cancer by 2015". If you really mean it you should immediately recall aspartame, an excitoneurotoxic carcinogenic drug masquerading as an additive used by 70% of the population and over 30% of children. That it causes cancer is a given. Read FDA's own audit on aspartame, the Bressler Report, mentioning such things as adenocarcinoma and brain tumors. Jerome Bressler exposed how Searle was caught excising these brain tumors, putting the rats back in the study and then resurrecting them on paper. FDA's own toxicologist, Dr. Adrian Gross, wrote to Senator Howard Metzenbaum two letters listing brain tumors found in studies.

FDA's toxicologist, Dr. Adrian Gross, also testified before Congress that aspartame violated the Delaney Amendment which says if a product causes cancer in animals it cannot be put in food. The law requires FDA recall this carcinogen. There are no excuses that can change this.
Attorney James Turner, Esquire, author of the Chemical Feast and the Nader Report on Food Protection at FDA said this on the issue of aspartame and cancer: "Since l974 FDA and the Searle Drug Company have known that aspartame causes brain tumors in animals. Since Nov of l980 the public has known the Public Board of Inquiry affirmed the nature of the Searle studies that showed cancer in animals and ruled that it should not be used in the food supply. Since 1992 we have known that there was a 10% rise in human brain tumors the year following the introduction of NutraSweet/aspartame into the market. Since l991 we have known there was a mechanism that transforms NutraSweet/aspartame into a known carcinogenic substance. It is past time that the FDA invoked the Delaney Clause and remove NutraSweet from the market. Russell Blaylock, M.D., a Board Certified Neurosurgeon (Ret), author of Excitotoxins: The Taste that Kills about aspartame, Health & Nutrition Secrets That Can Save Your Life and Natural Strategies for Cancer Patients, said this today:
"I have been impressed with the number and quality of research demonstrating the harmful, accumulative toxic effects of the aspartame product. Research demonstrating DNA damage from aspartame's metabolic components are beyond question. Likewise, the effects of each component of aspartame, the aspartate, phenylalanine and methanol, have been demonstrated. We know that aspartame in conjunction with MSG greatly enhance excitotoxicity, a central mechanism of a great number of degenerative neurological disorders, including Alzheimer's dementia, Parkinson's disease, ALS and multiple sclerosis. In addition, we better understand this link and that all of these conditions could be made worse and advance faster in the face of aspartame consumption. There is also compelling evidence to indicate that heavy aspartame consumption can unmask subclinical cases of MS into full blown cases. In the face of all we know about the harmful effects of this product its further use should be banned."

Ralph G. Walton, M.D., Medical Director of Safe Harbor Behavioral Health, professor of Clinical Psychiatry, Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine, Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry, Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine also today discussed the issue of aspartame. He said:
"When I first published a paper on adverse reactions to aspartame more than 20 years ago I felt that, with appropriate warnings, it could remain on the market. Over the past two decades, however, I have seen such severe adverse clinical consequences to the use of this artificial sweetener that I am convinced that it needs to be removed from the market. It clearly lowers seizure threshold, alters brain chemistry in a fashion which aggravates multiple underlying psychiatric disorders, paradoxically contributes to weight gain, can mimic neurological diseases such as MS, and produces metabolites which are known carcinogens. Tragically the medical literature is split on the question of aspartame's safety. Independently funded studies invariably identify one or more problems, whereas essentially all of the literature attesting to aspartame's safety is funded by the industry."
When Dr. John Olney made world news in l996 on the aspartame and brain tumor association, Dr. Walton was on 60 Minutes with his research showing that 92% of all independent scientific peer reviewed studies showed problems. He said if you removed 6 studies FDA had something to do with because of the controversy, and one pro-aspartame summary, 100% of unbiased independent studies showed the problems. Yet FDA sold out the people again. Acting FDA Commissioner Dr. Michael Friedman stated on 60 Minutes that aspartame did not cause brain tumors, even though his own FDA records showed that it did. Itwas so shameful I flatly asked him when he would get his reward from Monsanto. In June l999 they hired Dr. Friedman as VP of Searle for a half a million dollars. Quite a reward.

Aspartame also caused leukemia, lymphoma, cancer of the kidneys and peripheral nerves, especially cranial.
Neurochemist Dr. Peter Nunn and Geoffrey Pilkington did a study at Kings College about 4 years ago having to do with aspartame and brain tumors which is as yet unpublished. In it was this statement: "When we exposed human brain tumor cells to nitrosated DKP the cells became more motile and their rate of proliferation was significantly elevated. While it is somewhat early to speculate, it is possible that the aspartame breakdown product may be capable of enhancing the rate of malignant progression of pre-existing (and possibly clinically silent, undiagnosed) tumours in the brain."
This agrees with Dr. John Olney's findings who founded the field of neuroscience called Excitotoxicity and tried to prevent aspartame's approval. He is one of the most renowned neuroscientists in the world today.

FDA has always served above the law for over a quarter of a century. The law says you must answer a Citizens Petition within 180 days. H. J. Roberts, M.D., testified before Congress and said at his first press conference that if something wasn't done immediately in 5 or 10 years we would have a global plague on our hands. There also are a host of major pharmacologic and toxicologic considerations, especially poisoning with free methyl alcohol, and genetic (transgenerational) ramifications Indeed, it is my firm conviction that no pregnant woman should use these products.

Dr. Olney's prophecy has now been fulfilled. 9/99: Parents Magazine featured the article: "What's Wrong With Our Children?" One mother lamented, "Why aren't our children normal?"
"They are normal," another responded. "Every child has a disorder these days." .... "Their children - and their children's classmates - are being diagnosed with mental health problems at an alarming rate. The National Institute of Mental Health estimates that there are 12 million children under 18 with mental disorders. ... By the end of high school, one in four teens will have seriously considered suicide."
"The problem is so widespread that it's getting hard to find anyone whose son, niece, godchild, or grandchild hasn't been affected. Some observers are calling it an epidemic and demanding that screening programs, just like the ones for tuberculosis and other diseases, be put into place."
Aspartame triggers psychiatric and behavioral problems. 50% of the molecule is phenylalanine that lowers the seizure threshold and depletes serotonin, triggering bipolar or manic depression, suicidal tendencies, panic attacks, paranoia and hallucinations, for starters. Dr. Richard J. Wurtman, of MIT edited: "Dietary Phenylalanine and Brain Function." He testified before Congress and wanted to do studies on aspartame seizures, but was threatened by the VP of Searle if he did research funds would be rejected. Now our kids are addicts on aspartame and drugged with such things as Ritalin for the problems it causes. Aspartame interacts with all drugs and vaccines so our children don't have a chance. Dr. Olney predicted the damage aspartame would do to the brains of our children and especially compounded with MSG which has an additive and synergistic effect. Prior to the marketing of aspartame whoever heard of children on anti-psychotic drugs, or even that there was a problem.

CHICAGO, Illinois (AP) -- "Soaring numbers of American children are being prescribed anti-psychotic drugs -- in many cases, for attention deficit disorder or other behavioral problems for which these medications have not been proven to work, a study found. The annual number of children prescribed anti-psychotic drugs jumped fivefold between 1995 and 2002, to an estimated 2.5 million, the study said. That is an increase from 8.6 out of every 1,000 children in the mid l990s to nearly 40 out of 1,000" ...
The article continued, "But more than half of the prescriptions were for attention deficit and other non-psychotic conditions, the researchers said. The findings are worrisome "because it looks like these medications are being used for large numbers of children in a setting where we don't know if they work," said lead author Dr. William Cooper, a pediatrician at Vanderbilt children's Hospital."
A New York Times article July 16, 2006 was titled "Checklist for Camp: Bug Spray. Sunscreen. Pills." The article started "The breakfast buffet at Camp Echo starts at a picnic table covered in gingham-patterned oil cloth. Here, children jostle for their morning medications: Zoloft for depression, Abilify for bipolar disorder, Guanfacine for twitchy eyes and a host of medications for attention deficit disorder."
You should find this interesting since bipolar is an adult disease, but now over a million children suffer from it according to the front page article in Time some years ago. This is what aspartame has done to our children. It knows no age as it depletes serotonin from their brain triggering psychiatric and behavioral problems, and interacts with the psycho drugs used to treat the problems it causes. How hideous and the FDA turns it back on the people with its loyalty to Big Pharma who cares not for the lives of our children, just greed in selling more of its dangerous drugs.
Aspartame is addictive. The methanol component is a narcotic bringing chronic methanol poisoning, affecting the dopamine system of the brain and causes the addiction. On 5/17/2006 Dorothy Rugg wrote and said: "My 12 year old and her friends have found a way to get "hyper" by ingesting individual-size packages of Crystal Lite without water. I've brought it to the school's/doctor's attention especially since the girls are emulating illegal drug use - passing it around and sharing like it were a drug - to get "hyper".
Is there a difference in snorting cocaine. One victim once wrote she used cocaine in high school and it was easier to get off cocaine than aspartame. Here is Dr. H. J. Aspartame is an illegal drug and should immediately be recalled. The protest of the National Soft Drink Association that was added to the May, 1985 congressional hearing admitted aspartame to be illegal because it is adulterated:
"Section 402 of the FDC Act 21 provides a food is adulterated if it contains, in whole or in part "...a decomposed substance or if it is otherwise unfit for food". The National Soft Drink Association in their protest against aspartame approval in l983 recorded this, as found in the Congressional Record of May 7, l985, Page S 5509, Senate.
NSDA knew aspartame decomposes in soft drinks. They objected: "Searle has not demonstrated to a reasonable certainty that aspartame and its degradation products are safe for use in soft drinks. ... Aspartame is inherently markedly and uniquely unstable in aqueous media. In a liquid, such as a soft drink aspartame will degrade as a function of temperature and pH." S5507
Inferior test methods were used by Searle as NSDA explained: "High pressure liquid chromotography is a far superior analytical method relative to thin layer chromatography and numerous HPLC methods exist for the detection and quantification of amino acids. Searle's choice of TLC over HPLC adversely affected the quality and type of analytical data generated on aspartame and its decomposition products in soft drinks." S5507 .... " an important decomposition product of APM, aspartic acid cannot be detected at all using TLC." S 5508
"The inability to account for as much as thirty-nine percent of aspartame's decomposition products is significant." "The marked and rapid decomposition of aspartame in soft drinks under temperatures known to prevail is apparent from data in the present record and discussed above in these objections." S 5509 (So APM could not be legally added to carbonated beverages under Section 402 because it decomposes and NSDA admitted that happens.)

Since its adulterated and a crime to add it to carbonated drinks, it also violates interstate commerce statutes. Aspartame is also illegal because it's an excitoneurotoxic carcinogenic drug masquerading as an additive. Additives must be inert or non-reactive by law.
Aspartame manufacturers have been telling whoppers for years and the FDA fed them h to the public and physicians blinding them from diagnosing and treating aspartame victims. Professional ladies like the American Dietetic and American Diabetes Associations, MS folks and such take money from the manufacturers to push their propaganda in violation of Title 18, Section 1001 because they have been told for years.
So victims of aspartame have had nowhere to turn. Because of this aspartame detoxification centers are being set up in many cities and in other countries to refer victims to so they can help, all because FDA broke the law.
It was July 2005 when the Cancer Research Center of the European Foundation of Oncology and Environmental Sciences in Bologna, Italy reported on a long term study to evaluate the potential carcinogenic effects of aspartame. They said it induces an increase in lymphomas and leukemias. Only the rats fed aspartame developed malignant brain tumors. In September 2005 at an international scientific conference it was announced that aspartame is a multipotential carcinogen which also caused cancer of the kidney and peripheral nerves, mostly cranial. Neurosurgeon Russell Blaylock, M.D. commented: "The new study released in the European Journal of Oncology by Morando Soffritti and co-workers should terrify mothers and all those consuming aspartame sweetened products. This was a carefully done study which clearly demonstrated a statistically significant increase in several types of lymphomas and leukemias in rats. Both of these malignancies have increased significantly in this country since the widespread use of aspartame."
"This study confirmed the previous study by Dr. Trocho and co-workers, which also found the formaldehyde breakdown products of aspartame ato be damaging to cellular DNA and that this damage ewas accumulative. The type of damage was a duplicate of that associated with cancers. Along with this most recent study, this means that drinking a single diet cola sweetened with aspartame everyday could increase one's risk of developing a lymphoma or leukemia."
Dr. Blaylock also said "with children and pregnant women drinking the largest amount of diet colas, this puts their children at the greatest risk of developing one of these horrible disease. Their study found that even low doses of aspartame could cause these malignancies; yet, the higher the dose, the more cancers that were seen."
Sharon Fowler of the University of Texas did an epidemiological study based on 8 years of data linking obesity with diet drinks. Dr. Blaylock also said: "Since aspartame can increase obesity and may even case the metabolic syndrome that affects 48 million Americans, there is no reason to ever consume this product. At the least it should be immediately banned from all schools."
The FDA has broken so many laws we must provide schools with a 24 page brochure on toxic aspartame to save the children have no choice but to provide every school in the nation with a 24 page booklet with this information to save the children, to be published by the Idaho Observer, http://www.idaho-observer.com which issues the Artificially Sweetened Times. The Ramazzini Study simply confirmed what the FDA saw over two decades ago, a deadly, deadly multipotential carcinogen, that in original studies triggered brain tumors and brain cancer, testicular, ovarian, mammary, pancreatic, thyroid, and uterine tumors.
The Delaney Amendment clearly states if a product causes cancer in animals it can't be put in foods. Instead of immediately removing aspartame from the marketplace, there has been nothing but more efforts at cover-up.

With links to aspartame manufacturers on the committee of the European Safe Food Authority nothing was done. Because the Ramazinni Study was so precise there was no way to cover up the massive carcinogenic effects of aspartame. So EFSA did a despicable thing, they made up a fairy tale. Experts laughed as they tried to get away with "the cancer was due to respiratory disease". Any physician knows that respiratory disease is part of the dying process. Aspartame kills! They had to say something, even a lie, to avoid any action to restrict or prohibit aspartame from European tables because they collude with aspartame producers.

I personally spoke to Jerome Bressler in 2001 to thank him for releasing the truth. He said when FDA retyped his report they left out the worst 20%, and to attempt to get them to release it. He mentioned two mice studies and a cover letter. Doctors H. J. Roberts and Russell Blaylock confirmed this information after speaking with him.
On November 27, 2001, Dr. Roberts wrote to Bill Nelson in the US Senate and explained how this important information was withheld. He asked for the two mouse studies done at Searle Laboratories which were reviewed by the inspection team of the Chicago District of the Center for Food Safety & Applied Nutrition between April and September of l977. He considered the subject to be an imminent public health hazard, and urged Senator Nelson to put pressure on the FDA to acquire these documents.
On April 18, 2002, Melinda Plaisier, Associate commissioner for Legislation wrote.. "some documents are considered confidential under FDA's FOI regulations and in some instances the Agency cannot acknowledge the existence of such documents." This is hideous; studies show the public is consuming something dangerous and unsafe it immediately becomes confidential and cannot even be acknowledged to exist. I'm quite familiar with Melinda Plaisier and have corresponded with her. Every time she lied I quoted the record to show she was lying. She just lied some more. Finally a magazine in England published a letter.
FDA for years has refused to answer questions like why a product like aspartame is allowed when it liberates free methyl alcohol. Dr. Roberts question has gone unanswered for years. Diane Fleming, a Sunday School teacher from Virginia today cries from her cell in prison. She has lost her children, her home, her husband and her freedom because aspartame killed Charles Fleming. When they found the methanol poisoning with the autopsy also revealing chronic methanol poisoning for years, she was indicted even though she called the police and passed a lie detector test. As one detective said, "she is innocent and I would have stopped the indictment but I was promoted just at that time and couldn't stop it". Several doctors who viewed the autopsy wrote affidavits that Charles Fleming died from aspartame. He was addicted.

Today so many are dropping dead that two Parliamentarians have petitioned the World Health Organization to declare sudden death a syndrome and track it. FDA knows people drop dead from aspartame, but blame athlete deaths on ephedra. Dr. John Olney reviewed their records and exposed FDA.
See Prescription for Disaster about Big Pharma by Dr. Gary Null. I listened with respect to the words of Dr. Graham of the FDA who exposed them. FDA tried to discredit him, the usual penalty for whistleblowers. All these tactics are expertly exposed in John Stauber's books, "Trust Us, We're Experts", and "Toxic Sludge Is Good For You". One whistleblower also attacked, Alan Jones, said its all ...."you're on your own, there is no longer any safety."
FDA has betrayed the public. Their job has been to enrich Big Pharma. They take their money and approve their deadly drugs, defend them and lie to the people. The FDA lies to doctors telling them aspartame is safe when they know it causes an epidemic of diseases and interacts with drugs. FDA ties the hands of physicians because they can neither diagnose or treat. For example, aspartame is a proven seizure triggering drug. When a doctor sees a victim having an aspartame seizure he doesn't know the cause and immediately puts them on some anti-seizure medication like Dilantin which interacts. FDA has become PR of Big Pharma.
It breaks my heart when someone like young Kelli Motluck with a head full of aspartame brain tumors cries "I want to live, I want to live, I want to live, but if I die you must tell the world that Monsanto murdered me." She left a grieving husband and small child to grow up without a mother.
I remember one pregnant woman refused to quit using aspartame during pregnancy because she said FDA had approved it. Then she gave birth to a baby with a brain tumor. Think of the suffering of that innocent before it died because FDA approved a carcinogen.
The FDA seems most importantly wanting to prevent the public from using safe supplements so Big Pharma can sell more dangerous drugs. I read in USA Today on July 13 the FDA's warning not to use online libido supplements because the products contain chemicals that are similar or identical to the active pharmaceutical ingredients in Viagra and Livitra, and the undeclared ingredients could interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs such as nitroglycerin. But its quite alright to use Viagra. Germany's Health Ministry said even back in 2001 that 616 people had died after using this drug. No deaths from supplements, only drugs.
So why are we spammed daily with hundreds of ads for Viagra in the first place? You have 70% of the population using aspartame which damages the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus produces gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GRH). The GRH goes down the stalk between the hypothalamus and pituitary and causes the pituitary then to produce gonadotropins. The ganglia goes to the testicles and causes them to produce testosterone. When you're causing hypothalmic destruction with neuroexcitotoxins like NutraSweet you're suppressing the formation of male hormone without which there is no sexual drive or pleasure for either. In original studies aspartame triggered atrophied testes and testicular tumors. It's by this route.
So if the FDA is so concerned about interaction why is aspartame on the market interacting with all drugs? Even a recent study in Liverpool proved aspartame interacts with additives. It interacts to interfere with the development of the nervous system. Scientists who do honest independent and unbiased studies are threatened by aspartame makers. The Trocho Study is an example. This showed that the formaldehyde converted from the free methyl alcohol accumulates in the cells and damages DNA. Why do you allow the FDA to put out this garbage. Acesulfame potassium caused cancer and leukemia in original studies. Why did FDA approve it? Dr. Abe McCall of Sunnett tried to tell me it only caused mammary tumors, and I told him no thank you we don't want breast cancer. While it caused more than that it means it was approved against the law as well.
Neotame is another aspartame. How dare the FDA approve it. By rebirthing the poison according to one former assistant US Attorney it voids the statute of limitations on aspartame.
FDA just doesn't stop lying. If you don't care about FDA poisoning the people and allowing illegal products on the market then don't answer as FDA officials haven't for years. But as the new FDA Commissioner if you have any concern for safe food and drugs I expect an answer, and so do the thousands receiving this copy. Since Dr. Soffritti, lead Scientist in the 36 month aspartame study on rats rebutted EFSA's bizarre criticism of his impeccable work there has been nothing but silence. The Ramazzini study was peer reviewed by 7 world experts, who unquestionably know that respiratory disease is part of the normal dying process. Dr. Soffritti's rebuttal explains:
"As reported in a previous paper (Soffritti et al. 1999), one of the most important issues in environmental and industrial carcinogenesis is how to deal with diffused carcinogenic risks, to which most of the planet's population may be exposed. These carcinogenic risks are represented by a) agents that are slightly carcinogenic at any dose; b) low or extremely low doses of a carcinogenic agent of any kind; or c) mixtures of small doses of carcinogenic agents.
"Epidemiologic and experimental studies are fundamental in the identification and quantification of diffused carcinogenic risks, but they must be designed and conducted to be as powerful as possible with adequate methodology. In the case of experimental studies, it is not sufficient to follow the standard protocol used in ordinary experiments. Instead, it is necessary to conduct studies that may be defined as "mega-experiments," using a vast number of animals (at least 2001,000 per experimental group) in order to express a marked difference in the variation of effects, and exposing the animals in all phases of development to allow the agent to express its full carcinogenic potential.
"It is based on this rationale that the European Ramazzini Foundation performed a mega-experiment on 1,800 rats and demonstrated that, in our experimental conditions, aspartame is a multipotential carcinogenic agent (Soffritti et al. 2005; Soffritti et al. 2006).
"The results of our study (Soffritti et al. 2005; Soffritti et al. 2006) attracted the attention of the scientific community, consumer and industry associations, and the national and international agencies responsible for food safety. Among various comments, the opinion expressed on 5 May 2006 by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA 2006) and the general interpretation of an epidemiologic study conducted by the National Cancer Institute (NCI 2006) necessitate comment on our part.
"In examining the raw data of our study, the EFSA (2006) observed a high incidence of chronic pulmonary inflammation in males and females in both treated groups and in the control group. Based on this observation, it was concluded that "the increased incidence of lymphomas/leukemias reported in treated rats was unrelated to aspartame, given the high background incidence of chronic inflammatory changes in the lungs . . . ." In my opinion, this conclusion is bizarre for the following reasons:
"First, the EFSA (2006) overlooked the fact that the study was conducted until the natural death of the rodents. IT IS WELL KNOWN THAT INFECTIOUS PATHOLOGIES ARE PART OF THE NATURAL DYING PROCESS IN BOTH RODENTS AND HUMANS.
"Second, if the statistically significant increased incidence of lymphomas/leukemias observed were indeed caused by an infected colony, one would expect to observe an increased incidence of lymphomas/leukemias not only in females but also in males. The EFSA (2006) did not comment on this discrepancy in their logic.
"Finally, in support of the hypothesis regarding the safety of aspartame, the EFSA (2006) cited the negative results of recent carcinogenicity studies carried out in transgenic mice by the NTP; the ESFA did not mention that, because the NTP studies on genetically altered mice were performed using a new experimental model, the NTP subcommittee unanimously agreed "there is uncertainty whether the study possessed sufficient sensitivity to detect a carcinogenic effect" (NTP 2005).
"Interestingly, the same scrutiny applied to our study has not been applied to a recent abstract published by Lim et al. (2006) from the NCI diet questionnaire survey (NCI 2006) in which self-reported aspartame consumption showed no increases in either leukemia/lymphomas or in brain cancer. These results have been used by industry, the EFSA, and others to argue that aspartame is not a risk for humans, in spite of our animal study results. Without specific information on each individual's consumption rate and duration it is difficult to assess the power of the survey, in spite of the large number of participants. The second related issue is whether aspartame is an early- or late-stage carcinogen. If it is an early-stage initiator of cancer, then reporting the lack of effects in older individuals who have not consumed aspartame since early childhood would be expected to show little or no increased cancer (Hoel 1985).
"The safety-in particular, the noncarcinogenicity-of today's most widely diffused artificial sweeteners and their blends is largely based on studies conducted decades ago. I second Karstadt's nomination of acesulfame K for further study; however, I add that it should be evaluated using a long-term mega-experiment.

These are part of comments on a release on acesulfame potassium, another unsafe sweetener that triggered cancer and leukemia in original studies, that also summarize the Ramazzini Study, and the EFSA's bizarre rebuttal.
Dr. Koeter, your statement" "The expertise required [to judge any new study on whether aspartame causes cancer] almost inevitably means having a previous involvement." You also said, "Eliminate the scientists who had worked in the area before or who had worked for industry and there would be no scientists left. The panel had been "fully impartial." These statements are an abomination. You would try to make the world believe there are no independent researchers in Europe who are capable of reviewing an aspartame study?
If your statement had any basis for truth, which it doesn't, an impartial committee would look to researchers who had done "independent" research with no financial ties to aspartame manufacturers. Dr. Ralph Walton, for example, is an independent researcher who did a study on aspartame. Obviously, they knew it was independent and they couldn't control it. You simply can't test a deadly addictive excitoneurotoxic carcinogenic drug like aspartame and not have adverse findings. And sure enough the institution had to stop the study after one man (administrator of the hospital) had a retinal detachment (lost his vision in one eye), one person had conjunctival bleeding, and others reported they were being poisoned. So when Dr. John Olney, one of the most renowned neuroscientists in the world today who founded the field of neuroscience called excitotoxicity, made world news on the aspartame brain tumor association, Dr. Walton appeared with him on 60 Minutes. We're talking about the health of the world, and what goes on with power of the aspartame manufacturers to keep this deadly chemical poison on the market. In fact, when the European Union was making a decision on aspartame safety I thought it was important enough to fly to Brussels to give them all the damning research. I'm reporting gross conflicts of interest by the European Food Safety Authority using panel members connected to aspartame manufacturers to judge a study adverse to the chemical. Then EFSA lied to the world by declaring aspartame safe for human consumption.
In original studies aspartame was identified as a trigger of brain tumors and cancer, therefore the FDA Board of Inquiry revoked the petition for its approval. Don Rumsfeld, then CEO of aspartame producer G. D. Searle Co, became Reagan's Secretary of Defense, and the day after Reagan's inauguration a new FDA Commissioner was appointed who approved aspartame after years of FDA rejection. Aspartame triggers mammary, uterine, ovarian, testicular, pancreatic and thyroid tumors. In Ramazinnis 3 year study on 1,800 rats only those fed the chemical developed malignant brain tumors. It further triggered leukemia, lymphoma, cancer of the kidney, urethra and bladder and peripheral nerves, especially cranial. In September of 2005 at a conference, Dr. Soffritti, Director, declared aspartame a multipotential carcinogen, confirming the basis for FDA rejection a quarter of a century before. After Rumsfeld manipulated to put it on the market the FDA reversed and has been the lackey of aspartame producers ever since, pushing pro-poison propaganda, disregarding thousands of consumer complaints..
We have a paper trail of official documents including the Bressler Report, an FDA audit exposing Searle's chicanery. FDA toxicologist Jerome Bressler declared the studies were so bad that FDA removed 20% of his report before releasing it. Between the FDA, the aspartame industry, their front groups hired members of the EFSA evaluating the toxicity of their chemical.
The Guardian on 5/15/06 quoted EFSA Executive Director of the EFSA, Dr. Herman Koeter: "Dr Koeter said, he wanted to clear up misunderstandings about "conflicts of interest" among his advisory panel overseeing the review. MEPs complained last month that the scientist who chairs the advisory panel, Dr Susan Barlow, works for the International Life Sciences Institute, a body funded by sweetener manufacturers and major aspartame users such as Coca Cola, PepsiCo and Nestle, and Monsanto.
EFSA's conflicts of interest: One scientist in the review had a research grant from Ajinomoto, the leading Japanese aspartame producer. Other panel members were linked to food processors using aspartame. But to say these scientists have conflicts of interest was misunderstanding, Dr Koeter explained to the Rome conference.

He insults our intelligence. Are we to believe there are no scientists in Europe capable of conducting this study except those paid the aspartame industry? The one thing Dr. Koeter didn't get from the advisory panel was impartiality. They could have mailed in their approval on the way to cash aspartame checks.

The panel blamed the Ramazzini cancers came from respiratory disease.
Dr. Morando Soffritti responded: "CHRONIC PULMONARY INFLAMMATION IS COMMON IN THE NATURAL DYING PROCESS. MOREOVER, INFLAMMATION WAS OBSERVED IN BOTH ANIMALS WHO WERE TREATED WITH ASPARTAME AS WELL AS IN THE CONTROL GROUP.
"The European Ramazzini Foundation conducts what are known as lifespan mega-experiments, meaning that large groups of rodents are allowed to live out their natural lifespan and are examined for histopathological changes upon spontaneous death. This model is in contrast with most laboratories where rodents are sacrificed at 110 weeks of age (representing about 2/3 of the lifespan). The Ramazzini study design closely mirrors the human condition in which persons may be exposed to agents in the industrial and general environments from embryonic life under natural death. "Since 80% of cancer is diagnosed in humans over the age of 55, it is of paramount importance to observe how an agent affects laboratory animals in the last third of their lives."
Two European Parliamentarians petitioned WHO to declare sudden death a syndrome in order to track the cases. They couldn't understand why people are just dropping dead. Aspartame triggers an irregular heart rhythm, interacts with cardiac medication (all drugs for that matter), damages the cardiac conduction system and causes sudden death.

The Ramazzini study results show aspartame is a carcinogen, induces malignancies at dose levels lower than the current acceptable daily intake for humans (40 mg/kg of body weight in the EU, 50mg/kg of body weight in the US). Merry Kay Protheroe, of Wichita, Kansas, daily drank 10 diet Fresca, artificially sweetened with aspartame (Equal, NutraSweet). On August 31, 2006, Merry's husband, noting her lethargy and confusion, rushed her to an ER.
According to the hospital laboratory report, Merry Kay was in acute renal failure, confused, combatant, vomiting, dehydrated, delirious and diagnosed with severe metabolic acidosis-methanol poisoning.
Merry was put in full restraints because she was pulling out tubes, the catheter, everything connected to her. In her delirium, she kicked a nurse in the face.
Merry believes it was one of the doctors in the ER who suspected she had been poisoned by her husband; this doctor reckoned her husband put antifreeze in his wife's food, for an extended period of time.
Merry began to improve, according to a consultation evaluation by Ahsan Y. Khan, an MD at Via Cristi Regional Medical Center. "Mrs. Protheroe agreed to a mental status examination. The patient denied any suicidal or homicidal thoughts." In the interrogative, Merry was asked if a family member could have poisoned her.
One night, Merry heard police talking outside her hospital room. "A really scary part of this was my family wasn't around on the third detail (at night) when the uniforms came in to check on me to see if I was going to live. If I died, which was certain, I heard them say, they could arrest my dear husband of 35 years and/or my granddaughter, one of my best friends in the world."
After nine-days in the hospital, Merry Kay Protheroe went home. To date, no criminal charges have been pressed against any of her family.
In 1993, the FDA, under the Freedom of Information Act revealed 92 symptoms caused by aspartame; Weakness is No.10, Blood glucose disorders are No. 63, Change in hair or nails is No. 66, Many lumps present is No. 71 and Death is No. 77.
Since Merry has stopped using aspartame, she is stronger, her glucose levels are more stable, her hair is growing thicker, lumps on her arm have dried up and fallen off and she is alive.
Merry Kay survived methanol poisoning but Charles Fleming, 37, in June, 2000 did not.
Like Merry Kay, Charles (Chuck) Fleming was a heavy user of chemically-sweetened cola, drinking, every day, 10 Diet Cokes with aspartame. At night, Chuck switched to bourbon and diet Sprite, also with aspartame.
For those unfamiliar with the methanol (wood alcohol) content of aspartame, it is 10% of the molecule.
The aspartame manufacturers assure 'users' there is more methanol in a glass of tomato juice than in their product. The truth is, the methanol in aspartame is 'free' meaning the methanol is unaccompanied by ethanol, nature's antidote for methanol. In natural food sources of methanol, such as tomato or orange juice, ethanol is found at concentrations of 5 to 500,000 times that of the toxin. The most authoritative information about the methanol in aspartame is from Dr. Woodrow Monte, retired Professor of Food Science.*
The Innocent Woman
Although Diane Fleming passed a polygraph three times with 'flying colors', she was arrested, tried and convicted for 'spiking' her husband's Gatorade with windshield washer fluid, containing methanol. Sentenced to 30 years for murder and 20 years for adulteration, Diane has been imprisoned in the Fluvanna Correctional Center, in Troy, Virginia, for four years.
An NFT1 test(gas chromophotography) or a Raman Microscope test can prove accurately where the methanol in the Gatorade bottles originated. The Chesterfield, VA. police have told Diane's counsel, David B. Hargett, they do not have to release the Gatorade bottles, still in evidence.
What Diane's supporters want to know is: Why won't the Chesterfield, Virginia police department release the evidence?
A year-and-a-half after Diane was convicted, her best friend, Betty Rickmond learned, surfing the Internet, that aspartame contains lethal methanol.
Because of an antiquated law in the Commonwealth of Virginia, after a defendant is convicted, new evidence cannot be used in post conviction appeals to prove innocence. In Diane's case, this means no expert opinion can be brought in to establish the distinct possibility that Chuck Fleming died from aspartame poisoning.
Diane Fleming's appeals for freedom are coming to an end. Diane's writ of habeas corpus (very few cases even get that far) was rejected by the Virginia Circuit Court and the Virginia Supreme Court. If the appeal had been won, Diane would have been granted an evidentiary hearing or a new trial where information to prove her innocence is permitted.
On a personal note, this writer, a supporter of Diane's for more than three years, flew from LA to Richmond for the oral argument to the Supreme Court of Virginia.
Prisoners do not attend their hearing appeals, but I was able to meet Diane for the first time, at the jail.
Diane is a very brave, strong woman. She survives "lousy food and not enough of it", standing in "pill line" to get medicine, and "shakedowns" as prison guards go into your room/cell and throw everything out into the hall. Most of all, Diane has lost the pleasure of rearing her daughter, Meagan, now 13 years old.
Diane Fleming's husband, Chuck Fleming became ill after playing basketball on a hot June Sunday afternoon; it was that Sunday he drank his first bottle of Gatorade. He and Diane bought the Gatorade to mix with creatine, a 'muscle-enhancing' supplement Chuck wanted to try. Note, Chuck used the creatine inappropriately by not drinking any water and by using 3 times the recommended amount, which can cause a dangerous 'creatine blast' according to Dr. Terjung, Professor of Physiology at Missouri University.
Chuck told Diane he thought he had 'a little flu bug'; he ate only ice cream for dinner and went to bed early. Not until the next day did Chuck agree to go to the ER where he was diagnosed with the identical symptoms as Merry Kay Protheroe-- acute renal failure, confusion, combatant, vomiting, dehydration, delirium and diagnosed with the same fatal sickness-- severe metabolic acidosis, methanol poisoning.
Important to know is it was Diane who first called the police because one of the doctors at the hospital told her Chuck had died from methanol poisoning. It was Diane who showed the detectives the (sealed) windshield washer fluid on the garage shelf and the Gatorade bottles in the refrigerator, where her then 7-year old daughter had access. Jeffrey, Diane's son was graduating from high school the next Thursday and Diane's parents were driving up from Missouri for the occasion. Diane had just bought Chuck woodworking table to surprise him for Father's Day.
Six years after Chuck's death, five of Diane's closest friends and I listened to counsel, David B. Hargett's 10 minute appeal to the Supreme Court of Virginia.
The Court rejected the appeal; a Petition for Rehearing has been filed.
In his latest letter to Diane, Hargett writes: "I feel we have a strong argument, but the Supreme Court rarely changes its mind."
The strongest argument and a primary reason Diane Fleming was wrongly convicted is "prosecutorial misconduct", legally called a "Brady violation."
The Smoking Gun
One can easily see Krystal Kleer windshield washer fluid is blue; when one adds this windshield washer fluid to a lemon-lime Gatorade, the flavor Chuck drank, the liquid turns green and smells bad. An affidavit from Virginia state toxicologist, Joseph J. Saady, swears he found no blue dye in the Gatorade bottles, but he decided not to send the bottles out for further forensic testing. The prosecution hid this exculpatory(proving innocence)evidence from the defense.
Circuit Court Judge Cleo Powell, also the trial judge who heard counsel David B.Hargett argue the habeas the first time around, sided with the prosecution. Powell ruled the windshield washer evidence was not exculpatory because the prosecution, at trial, never argued the windshield washer fluid killed Chuck.
Yet, in the one-day trial, the transcript shows 37 references to the windshield washer fluid and the windshield washer fluid, linked to the Gatorade bottles, is cited 113 times.
In the pending Petition for Rehearing, David B. Hargett informs the Court that Diane Fleming's case is not the first time Diane Fleming's prosecutor, Warren Van Schuch hid evidence. The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, in VA, admonished Van Schuch "This prosecution team displayed a disconcerting lack of respect for its sole responsibility to ensure 'that justice shall be done', as opposed to merely winning the case."
In another case, prosecutor Von Schuch's misconduct resulted in a reversal. "The Court finds that Van Schuch acted improperly and in violation of prosecutorial obligations."
In a best possible scenario, Diane will be granted an evidentiary hearing or a new trial where experts on methanol poisoning can testify; among them are, endocrinologist, Dr. H.J. Roberts ("Aspartame Disease: An Ignored Epidemic"), neurosurgeon, Dr.Russell Blaylock ("Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills"), toxicoligist Dr. Hildegarde Staninger, Dr. Janet Hull ("Sweet Poison") and former Judge Mary Nash Stoddard, consumer advocate.
Most importantly, the Gatorade bottles, still in evidence, must be obtained for testing.
The injustice done to Diane Fleming must be rectified.

FDA = one major cancer factory of the world and in bed with all major global bio-pharma-nanotech cartels do not care - the billions they accept for approving the toxic poisons make that clear, they rely on private enterprise funding to keep them running.
The EU - EFSA do not care one bit about safety, if only all of you knew the half of it that went on, you only have to look at one EU member country to see what I mean, there are undercover work on them and videos, etc, leaked docs (all mostly available in he media). Look at how they support GM foods also - they love the corp giants. So much so the EU commissioners themsevles have called for the EFSA to be shut down!
