It looks like a pair of fighter jets at an air show. They routinely vent smoke (or whatever) while doing maneuvers like that. I guess its so the spectators can better follow the aircraft and see what kind of maneuvers they are doing. I have seen the Air Force Thunderbirds and the Navy Blue Angels perform just such acts.
