Off track a bit, but we have had a huge influx of butterflies, I went out for a walk today and literally had them swarming round my head. I must have seen 60 or 70 within a 10minute period, it was really weird.

Tally: Your beautiful butterfly I suspect really is a moth. I have seen many beautiful moths. Not positive. Thanks for the picture and experience. Cool

Well I did kinda wonder but this was broad daylight, in bright sunshine, I always thought moths were more nocturnal?
Thanks for looking Smile

Moths. Pretty certain. PostMon Sep 17, 2007 5:39 pm  Reply with quote

Nice pic.

Saw a few of those about three weeks ago Tally. Just once. About 8 in the same day. At least I think it was them. Like Jeanie I decided they were moths. There is a one butterfly which looks pretty much like that (can't remember the name sorry), but it doesn't have that cool design on the wing tips, just the spots below. There were too many species of moth to wade through to pin it down more accurately than that though!

I've lived in Florida most of my life and LoveBug season is May and September.

Now that you mention it, I haven't seen any this month. They must be a little late this September.

I've now seen two pair of love bugs, really strange in my book to not have more. My memory says that we should be in the decline part of the "season" for them.

Ladybugs PostSat Sep 22, 2007 5:30 am  Reply with quote

That may be, but we usually get absolutely swamped with LadyBugs and BoxElder bugs this time of year. To date, I have seen none of either species. I can't help but wonder if this is related to the dead bees over the summer.

I too saw a solitary Love bug yesterday, but i have not seen them en masse as is the normal.
By the way lovebugs as they are commonly known are not indigenous to Florida, but another attempt to alter the natural ecology.

Well, i have to say, SOMEWHERE in FLorida the lovebugs are out, I saw a car two days ago, front end almost black from them. Yet, I have seen only two pairs in this area.
