I do a lot of cycling, and as I was reading a cycling forum I came across this post:

Sorry to go off topic but holly sh*t the air is polluted here in the South bay!
Friday I did a short Pre-race ride with some hi-intensity. My throat was Burning & very irritated for 3 hours post ride!
Now today what just ridiculous! The smog was so thick you could cut it with a knife. My eyes were even burned from the pollution after a short 60 minute easy ride.
I've lived in the south bay (San Jose CA) now for 15 years and can't remember anything like this!!! What gives?
I just can't imagine things getting worse!
Going to Monterey to train tomorrow. I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS!
Anyone have any tips on how to deal with this stuff?

More and more people are beginning to notice.
And of course, more and more propoganda is expected.

I noticed alot of smog around the cities down in southern California, and out around Las Vegas, but once you climbed out of the valleys and got some altitude, it was clear as a bell. It was very obvious that this smog you're talking about is the result of metropolitan pollution (cars, industry, etc), not airplane contrails. |

I ride my mountain bike in Marin County. I now wear a face mask similar to the ones they wear in the cities to ride their bikes outdoors.
Last week they sprayed so heavy that the fall out is still here 5 days later.
I too had a burning throat and my eyes felt like someone had sprinkled talcum powder in them. Then for no known reason my left nostril began to run. It was like a tap. Clear liquid was just flowing. My left eye swelled up and became bright red and sore.
I've never experienced anything like this before. I have never had an allergy attack before.
It is getting worse.

This is not city pollution as I live up wind of San Francisco and I'm right on the coast.
These are not contrails either.

Dear Pacer:
This cyclist no doubt is experiencing the same chemical induced pollution I experience when I'm out on training rides.
There is next to no industrial or metroplolitan pollution out here in rural Oregon, yet it's the same haze that burns the throat and makes the lungs hurt.
Not the smoke from forest fires either. There's a different smell, a different look, and most certainly a different feel in the lungs.
Besides, this haze has been around since winter, way before the chemical induced drought caused the parched landscape to burn.
It's time to turn off the "expertise" on everyone eles's experience.
The disinformation you spread is as thick as the chemical induced haze.
