I found this fascinating. Thanks for the opportunity to post!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Numbers_station
quote: Numbers stations are shortwave radio stations of uncertain origin. They generally broadcast voices reading streams of numbers, words, letters (sometimes using a phonetic alphabet), tunes or morse code.
The voices that can be heard on these stations are often mechanically generated. They are in a wide variety of languages, and the voices are usually women's, though sometimes men's or children's voices are used.
Evidence supports popular assumptions that the broadcasts are channels of communication used to send messages to spies.

The FBI appears to have begun using a novel form of electronic surveillance in criminal investigations: remotely activating a mobile phone’s microphone and using it to eavesdrop on nearby conversations. The technique is called a “roving bug,” and was approved by top U.S. Department of Justice. A mobile sitting on the desk of a politician or businessman can act as a powerful, undetectable bug.

I'm sure there's many more, thanks for the interest.

They are broadcasting modem signals too. We have a couple of guys in town that record these on computer tape and jack them somehow into their computer. They think they need a 128 bit computer to do anything with it though. They aren't very sucessful at decripting it. _________________ Thomas Jefferson. Thanks for the post, Richard!
If you have any more information on this, let me know. I'd like to keep posting threads about covert ops in this thread. These are some of the most important issues of our time. _________________ “To the last, I grapple with thee; From Hell's heart, I stab at thee; For hate's sake, I spit my last breath at thee” |

Ditch your cell phone, unplug your computer mic and webcam.

"Computers make excellent surveillance tools because they can do things without their owners' knowledge or consent. Most computers have connections to networks, which can be exploited (through security cracking) to gain access to any confidential data that may be stored on the computer. Additionally, if someone is able to install certain types of software on a system, they can turn it into a surveillance device"
