Biotech Convention Protested

I don’t know how many of you are aware of this, but there was a biotech convention in San Francisco June 6-9. Listen to this:
The BIO 2004 Annual International Convention today ends its four-day run at the Moscone Center with new records for attendance and international representation. Total registration as of 2 p.m. today (6/9/04) was 16,901, with representatives from 61 countries, 49 U.S. states (plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico), and 10 Canadian provinces. Of those registered, 15,200 were on-site during the meeting. (These numbers do not include spouses, companions, hosts, vendors, and staff.) Source: BIO 2004 website - http://www.bio.org/events/2004/
Whoa! Some pretty impressive numbers there! A group, Reclaim the Commons, organized the protest. Looks like there were under 50 arrests with nothing too drastic happening. To read more about the protest or to check out all the photos, read at Indymedia’s Bay homepage - http://www.indybay.org/
