He was just a dog PostThu May 01, 2003 12:19 am  Reply with quote

He was just a dog, that is what some will think, even worse that is what some have actually said to me.

Duke was one of my two best friends (next to my husband) holding a place in my heart not unlike some peoples children. My other best friend is our mixed breed, Ajax. He looks for Duke everywhere and looks to me to produce him. They were inseprable, brothers.

Duke was the largest yellow lab I've ever known. He was over 100 lbs. and all muscle. He feared nothing. He loved everyone. It was an accident and he was gone quickly and mercifully.

Our hearts are broken in a way only God and time can heal. Every time I look into Ajax's eyes, every time he jumps in the car and checks the backseat, every time it's time to walk and now it's just us. It just hurts.

FL Kook:::Losing my dog, if she doesn't out live me, I can't even begin to contemplate, so healing wishes are being sent to you this evening. A hug and a kiss to Ajax too. The ones left are the ones feeling the pain so be comforted in the knowledge that Duke is unaware of anything. Maybe you could contribute some time or money to a shelter in his memory, that might help your healing. Love and warm wishes to you and yours. Jeanie

I'm very sorry to hear of your dog's passing FL. He's in a better place now I'm sure, but remember to be joyful of the time you had together and never forget, which I'm sure you won't. I have four pets and know that it will be devastating when I depart with any of them.

Thanks for the good vibes everybody. We'll be looking at getting a couple of new pups maybe in the late summer sometime. That ought to keep Ajax busy. We also have a cat and an iguana.

It is hard to lose them. Duke was 11 and had the life of Riley as one of our pets. I thank God every day that he didn't suffer.

There are so many that need love. I'd take every stray in too if I could.

Jeanie, I think Seeker has a few more of those good qualities. He's animal lover with good taste in music, a finely tuned sense of humor and leans conservative politically. Don't get all sentimental on me Seek, just calls it likes I sees it.

Sorry to hear that. We've lost several cats recently and it isn't easy.

On a positive note, check out this island for dogs, that's right, it's...

Amazing place Thermit. Ajax really enjoyed these...

Several of our dogologists have placed microphones in the

caves on Dog Island as well as in some other locations. The

most fascinating thing has happened!! The musical talents

of the dogs are developing. Listen to the soothing sounds

of Dog Island ...

1) Circles in

the Sand

2) Remember the

Horses

3) Spirit Dance

4) Pack Fight

5) Island Celebration

I get very attached to dogs also. Well really any animal for that matter, but dogs especially. Humans could learn a lot from dogs about loyalty, and unconditional love.

I would so love to have a dog right now, but I am gone often and I would not be able to responsibly care for a dog.

But everytime I see a Boston Terrier, I am reminded of Molly and that time in my life when she really was mans best friend.
