Is ADHD a conspiracy?

Was ADHD invented to make money
for doctors and the drug companies?
''The lawyers who brought you suits over tobacco, guns and health-maintenance organizations have a new target: Ritalin.'' Thus begins a recent article in the New York Times by Wall Street Journal staff reporter Richard B. Schmitt. The remainder of this report summarizes the original Times article, which was not available for reprint.
A group of lawyers, reveals the Times article, are filing multibillion-dollar lawsuits against Novartis, manufacturer of Ritalin, and the American Psychiatric Association, among others, for allegedly conspiring to invent the ADHD disease descriptions relied upon by current medical practice -- all in order to create a market for the drug. The lawsuit was filed toward the end of this September. The Times opines that these cases, which were filed in both California and New Jersey, will give rise to similar lawsuits in other states.
Another named defendant in these lawsuits is CHADD (Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder), a nonprofit support group which ''has received financial backing from Novartis, according to the suit'' [Times].
The legal team is being spearheaded by Richard Scruggs, Esq., who was instrumental in negotiating the groundbreaking punitive settlements with the tobacco industry in 1998. He is claiming that the Ritalin defendants ''manufactured a disease,'' that the drug has been ''grossly over-prescribed,'' and that Ritalin constitutes a ''huge risk'' to children.
Scruggs is seeking to have the lawsuits receive class-action status. The lawsuits contend that ''Novartis and Ciba-Geigy, the original developers of Ritalin, along with the psychiatric association, conspired to create a broad-based definition of hyperactivity disorders in the standard medical text used by doctors,'' the Times alleges, and goes on to say that this conspiracy, according to the complaints, ''has had the effect of boosting sales and profits. Subsequently, Novartis and Ciba-Geigy employed false and misleading advertising, which played down the drugs' side-effects, and oversold the benefits.''
Hope for Persecuted Physician
The Times article implies that this lawsuit may eventually serve to vindicate Robert Sinaiko, M.D., a California doctor who is currently being persecuted by the Medical Board of California (MBC), apparently because he balks at the kneejerk prescription of Ritalin for small children before the causes of their behavior have even been studied. Sinaiko formed ''Progress in Medicine Foundation Medical Defense Fund,'' which has raised nearly $300,000 to help defend his courageous stance. (You may find out how to help by visiting the Defense Fund website.)
Sinaiko supporters include the ''health freedom movement,'' the California Medical Association (CMA), The Center for Public Interest Law (CPIL), and many highly regarded expert witnesses nationwide, all of whom have been labeled ''not credible'' by the MBC. In denigrating Sinaiko's witnesses, the MBC ludicrously includes in the ''not credible'' category such eminent individuals as Dr. Phil Lee -- currently the chief health adviser for Gray Davis, and formerly President Clinton's Assistant Secretary of Health.
The MBC's actions are being seen as an extension of what has been called the ''Quackbuster Conspiracy'' -- notorious attempts by the Federation of States Medical Boards and others to label as ''fraud'' the entire field of alternative medicine!
Recent Research Implicate Diet
in 85 Percent of Cases Studied
Contradicting this amazing view of alternative health care is the Feingold Association, which the Times terms ''a non-profit group which helps parents check their children's diets to determine if something in their eating habits may be causing childhood problems.'' And, ''Feingold proponents challenge so-called 'conventional' wisdom that diet doesn't account for more than 5% of hyperactivity problems. Health activists say that the so-called 'conventional' wisdom people are using only studies completed before 1982 -- and ignoring more recent studies which indicate that 85 percent of children can be helped by a change in diet.''
You will find information about this and other approaches to helping hyperkinetic children throughout our magazine. Stay tuned for developments about this lawsuit.

Number of ADHD kids concerns Aussie psychiatrists
By Chris Pritchard
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – One in eight Australian children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)—as well as many not diagnosed with the condition—are prescribed stimulant drugs, according to recent research.
The study also showed most children on stimulants are male and most have visited a pediatrician.
Australia's National Association of Practising Psychiatrists reacted to the findings by criticizing the number of prescriptions for mood-altering drugs that pediatricians give to children.
Dr. Joseph Ray, a professor of child psychiatry at Sydney University, collaborated with researchers at South Australia's Adelaide Women's and Children's Hospital in examining almost 3,600 children.
The survey results, published in a recent issue of the Medical Journal of Australia, show a substantial number of children using stimulants do not meet even broad definitions of ADHD.
"Even among those diagnosed with ADHD, there is debate about the extent to which treatment should include the use of stimulant medication," the researchers noted. "Pediatricians play an important role in managing children with ADHD, and stimulant medication is commonly prescribed for attention problems. . . .
"There is a great need to clarify the circumstances under which stimulant medication should be used as part of ADHD treatment. This will require additional information about the degree to which children with different types or severities of ADHD are disadvantaged as a result of their disorder, and the extent to which stimulant medication can help them."
The most common medications for ADHD are stimulants, antidepressants and the antihypertensive drug clonidine.
Dr. Gil Anaf, president of Australia's National Association of Practising Psychiatrists, said there has been a 20-fold increase over the past decade in the prescription of psycho-stimulants for attention problems in children.
"We know agitated kids exist, but we're still not sure whether ADHD exists," Dr. Anaf said.
"There are many other causes of agitation, such as hearing problems or trauma caused by the death of a parent.
"You need time and funding for proper psychiatric assessment. That isn't available, and people are resorting to drugs first."

In a nut-shell we're starting to wake up and somebody don't like it. - I remember when I was in elementary school being put through all kinds of of "tests" that none of the children seemed to be being given. I was a wild child, a free thinker and, now that I think back to my childhood, a gifted child before such a term even existed. I was disruptive in a sense, but mainly beccause I had matured physically by the time I hit 4th grade. - If I was a child today, they would have probably drugged the hell out of me.
During those years I remember us being lined up and given vaccinations, and even given flouride solutions at one point. - Today, more and more vaccinations are being added and in combinations that are probably very dangerous.
Now being in the horse business, among other things, we have to give the horses innoculations. First it was a 2 in 1 short and then 3 in 1 and then more and more things were added to the shot. As a result of all the mixing, some of these shots had some pretty bad effects on a few of the horses.
Now if they're doing the same thing with human vaccinations that they're doing with the animal ones, then some of these combinations could be causing some pretty major problems. - They could be responsible for a lot of the problems that children are having today including ADHD. But then again, some children that have been diagnosed with ADHD could be very much like I was as a child. One teacher that I had, vowed never to teach an elementary school class again, and she didn't. - I'm just someone that can't be controlled or manipulated and can see through this deception to an extent. - One or two of us are not much of a problem, but what if there's more of us being born now? - We'd be a threat wouldn't we? - A generation of children that could not be controlled by their normal means. - I think that's what they're really afraid of.
I was actually beginning to think that people like Alpha didn't exist anymore because of the attempts by the TPTB to dumb everything down and drug anyone that showed any sense of individuality. - I'm glad there's still some signs of intelligent life in the world or at this board anyway. |

At some point in the early stages of my life I learned that it was not safe to speak my views as so often it would seem to make adults, in particular, uncomfortable. I would make some origination that would, in most cases, be met with instant invalidation. So, on the outside I displayed what would be an "average demeanor" for almost any kid of the time. However, what was going on inside was quite a different story. I realize that I was different but I also had an understanding that that was a good thing and anytime someone would call me strange, weird, different, etc. I would feel that I had been validated. In any event, spankings and the use of humiliation and intimidation techniques were the SOP of the time to suppress inquisitive and creative minds - drugs were not yet being incorporated to mentally shackle "disruptive" children (children with "disorders"). I consider myself to be fortunate to have passed through the public "education" system when I did.
Following is an article regarding some very evolved beings that are coming into the game now. These players coming onto the Earth playing field are going to be shaking some things up!
The Super Psychic Children
Update by Drunvalo, Oct. 1, 2000 ---- This last category, the Super Psychic Children, is the most amazing of all. Some people believe that this group and the Indigo Children are the same. Even Jan Tober expressed this belief. But I am not convinced. In fact I see a tremendous difference between them. Only the Super Psychic Children can see with parts of their bodies other than their eyes. This seems to be their most consistent trait, and one which Indigo Children are not able to demonstrate. On the other hand, many children are actually in training programs where they are successfully learning super-psychic abilities, even though they were not born with them.
In this issue we will have an interview with 19-year-old Inge Bardor, a Super Psychic who, besides her total clairvoyance, can move objects through the air with her mind, see with her hands and feet, and know the future at will. She tells us what it is it like to be a Super Psychic Child growing up in an ordinary world -- and what her dreams are for the future use of her amazing abilities.
Also we present new information about the Super Psychics of China. In their recent book, China's Super Psychics, Paul Dong and Thomas Raffill, recorded the events in as the Chinese government watched the unfoldment of these gifted children from 1974 until about 1990. The authors now share with our readers some of the new discoveries and research facts that have been documented during the last decade.
Finally, I will tell you something I've learned about an Inner TV Screen the psychic children have, and its relationship to clairvoyance and remote viewing. This information is my experience only, but perhaps others will choose to take up the challenge and perform research on this intriguing mental phenomenon.
Arthur C. Clarke, in his book Childhood's End, foretold the birth of a new race of super-psychic children. Through a worldwide mindlink with each other, these children were able to make planetwide alterations in all physical systems. That book was the conceptual basis for the film 2001! Coincidence? Fiction? We'll let you decide.
from The Ancient Secret of the Flower of Life,
Volume II, by Drunvalo Melchizedek
The superpsychic children are perhaps the most unusual and charismatic race being born today. Their dramatic abilities distinguish them from the other two races with their sensational demonstrations. These children are able to do things that most people thought could be done only in movies with computer graphics. What is so amazing of all is that it is real. If these children don't change our world, nothing will. Notice how some of the abilities of these children resemble the manifestations of consciousness we talked about in chapter 18, during the dimensional shift. What you think is what you get! These children are able to demonstrate that whatever they think becomes reality.
Paul Dong and Thomas E. Raffill wrote China's Super Psychics. It reports what has been transpiring in China around these new psychic children who have begun to emerge since 1974 with the young boy who could see with his ears. Actually, the Chinese government claims that these children, when blindfolded, could see either with their ears, nose, mouth, tongue, armpits, hands or feet. Each child was different and their vision from these unheard-of areas was perfect. These tests were not just a percentage right some of the time; they were flawless.
I first spoke about these children in 1985 when I mentioned the article about them in Omni magazine. Omni was invited to come to China to observe some of these children and write an article about them. Omni assumed that there might be cheating involved, so when they were given some of these children to test, they conducted their examinations in a way that ruled out any possible cheating. They left nothing to chance.
One of the tests began this way: With the children present, Omni took a stack of books and at random selected one of them, then opened the book at random and ripped out a page, crumpling it up into a small ball. Omni then placed it in the armpit of one of these children -- and this child could read every word on the page perfectly! After many varied test, Omni became convinced that the phenomenon was real, but they could not explain how these kids were doing it. Their report was released in their January 1985 issue.
But Omni was not the only one to send researchers to observe these children. Several other world magazines and also papers in respected journals such as Nature, a prestigious science magazine, have also agreed that this phenomenon is real.
In Mexico City we found exactly the same new human traits emerging in the children there. There may be more, but we found over 1000 children able to see with various parts of their bodies. What is noticeable is that these Mexican children can see with the very same parts of the body as the Chinese children do. It sounds like this DNA mutation has jumped across the ocean just as in the hundredth-monkey phenomenon. Soon I will come back to one of these children, now nineteen, to give my direct experience of the abilities she demonstrated to us.
According to Paul Dong in China's Super Psychics, seeing with various parts of the body was the psychic ability that caught the attention of the Chinese government, but this ability was quickly understood to be only the tip of the iceberg. These children began to demonstrate other psychic abilities that are truly difficult to accept inside this ''normal'' reality.
Mr. Dong reports how several times a large audience of a thousand people or more would enter the auditorium and be handed a live rosebud. When everyone was seated and quiet, the demonstration would begin with a young Chinese girl, about six years old, who would come on stage all by herself and stand in the center facing the audience. Then with a silent wave of her hand, the thousand rosebuds would slowly open into full-blown, beautiful roses before the eyes of the astonished audience.
Mr. Dong also speaks of how over 5000 young children have demonstrated in public another amazing feat. Realize here that the Chinese government has carefully tested these children to see if what I am about to say is real or not. The government is convinced it is true.
One child would take a sealed bottle of pills off a shelf at random, like vitamin pills, for example. The bottle would be sealed with the original plastic wrap and have a tightly screwed metal or plastic top. The bottle would then be placed in the center of a large bare table. Then a video camera would observe what happened next.
The child would say to the audience that he/she was beginning, but nothing was visible to the audience. Suddenly, the pills inside the sealed bottle would pass right through the glass and appear on the table. In many cases, the child would then take another object, such as a coin, set it on the table, and it would pass into the sealed bottle. This demonstration and others like it are definitely approaching what I would call fourth-dimensional consciousness. What you think and what happens are connected.
There are several other psychic abilities that have been demonstrated in China, according to this book. If you are interested, read what has been reported. You may think that this is just magic tricks, but when you see these things in person, it is very hard to explain. For the first ten years the Chinese government would not believe it either, until the number of these children who could do these things kept growing. By the time China's Super Psychics was released in 1997, the Chinese government had identified over 100,000 of these children. In fact, by about 1985, the government and the Chinese scientific community simply had to admit it was true.
Because they realized what this could mean, the government set up training schools to assist these children in their psychic abilities. Whenever a psychic child is found now, he or she is sent to one of these schools. Important is the fact that they have found that they can even take children who are not known to be psychics and in the presence of the naturally psychic kids, the trained children can perform the same wonderful feats.
This brings forth the memory of Uri Geller, the famous psychic from Israel who could bend metal objects just by looking at them. In his book, Uri Geller, My Story, he talks about when he demonstrated his psychic abilities on television throughout Europe. He went on TV and asked people to get knives, spoons and forks and place them in front of the television set. With millions of witnesses, he then bent tableware before their eyes and tableware in the homes in Europe who were watching the show. This single act had an interesting side effect. From the phone calls immediately after the show and the following days, it was discovered that over 1500 children were able to do the same thing just by seeing it happen one time. They could all bend the metal tableware with their minds.
People, especially scientists, were convinced that Mr. Geller was a magician and that everything he did was a trick of some kind. Stanford Research Institute asked if he would submit his magic to scientific scrutiny. Mr. Geller agreed. For a period of time Mr. Geller did whatever Stanford asked him to do to prove once and for all that his psychic ability was not a trick.
Just to give you an idea of how tight the testing at Stanford was, one of the tests placed Mr. Geller in a sealed steel room, which was also a Faraday cage (a room where electromagnetic fields, such as radio waves and even brain waves or thoughts, could not pass through the walls). He was sealed in physically as well as energywise. The Stanford researchers placed outside the test chamber a sealed, hand-blown glass tube that was twisted on each end so that it could not be opened without breaking it. Inside it was a piece of the hardest metal known to man. Then they told Mr. Geller to bend it. With all their scientific instruments recording the test, Stanford scientists watched in total amazement as the piece of superhard metal bent as if it were Jell-O. Mr. Geller could in no way have cheated.
What is so impressive is that besides Mr. Geller, there were about 15 children from Europe who could also do these things, and they were tested along with him. Everything that Stanford did to test Mr. Geller they also did with the children, and these kids could do everything he could do. So if this was a trick, then 15 children were also ''advanced magicians,'' and Stanford Research Institute, with all their scientific magic, could not detect fraud.
This test and the rest of the research from Stanford was printed in Nature magazine in its October 1974 issue. The New York Times immediately came out with an editorial that said: ''The scientific community has been put on notice 'that there is something worthy of their attention and scrutiny' in the possibilities of extrasensory perception.'' Yet here we are in the next millennium, and science still will not seriously admit that the human potential for psychic abilities is real. I believe that these new children appearing around the world will soon force science into accepting what has always been true. The old pagadigm has nowhere to go and must dissolve.
In Denver, Colorado, in July 1999, I spoke about these new children to a large audience. I asked a young woman named Inge Bardor from Mexico to demonstrate directly to this audience her ability to see with her hands and feet. At that time she was eighteen years old. For about an hour, Inge placed a blindfold around her eyes and accepted photographs at random from the audience. She would hold the photograph and lightly touch it with the fingertips of her other hand.
First she would describe the picture perfectly, as though she was looking at it, but then she would become more specific, giving information that would be impossible for her to know even from a photo. She could tell everything about the people or place in the photo. She could tell exactly where the photo was taken and what was around the area outside the view, such as a lake or buildings.
Inge could even describe the person who took the photograph and what he/she was wearing that day. She could tell you what everyone in the photo was thinking at the moment the picture was taken. In one photo of the inside of a house, Inge went into the house psychically and described exactly what was down the hallway. She even described what was on the bedside table.
Finally someone placed a newspaper under Inge's feet, and with her high-heeled shoes on, she was able to read the paper as if it was in her hands and she wasn't blindfolded. (If you are interested in this video, please call Lightworks Video at 1-800-795-TAPE and ask for Through the Eyes of a Child.)
Under the strict discipline of scientific research, the Chinese government has observed these children changing the human DNA molecule in a petri dish before cameras and scientific equipment necessary to record this supposedly impossible feat. If this is true, which the Chinese government claims, would we not be able to change our own DNA with just the right understanding? I think so. Just follow the children.
How is it possible that 60 million people in the world have already changed their DNA to drastically improve their immune systems against HIV infection through spontaneous genetic mutation, if not through a process similar to what our new children of China have demonstrated? This is a grand time in the history of the Earth -- and you are alive to experience this extraordinary world change!

THE RITALIN OUTRAGE
FINALLY, A MEMBER OF CONGRESS TAKES A WHACK AT A DRUG PUSHER
By Nicholas Regush
All this yammering by politicians about the great need to care for American children is just that - a lot of yammering. And that includes George W. Bush, who talked endlessly during his presidential campaign about the importance of not "leaving any children behind." What a crock!
America is now PILL NATION. It is polluting the brains of its children by giving huge numbers of them drugs like RITALIN.
This past week, finally, a politician - Rep. Dan Burton (R- Ind.) got nervy and blasted the head of a loathsome organization called CHADD (Children And Adults with ADHD). During a congressional hearing, he took a good whack at E. Clarke Ross, CHADD’s bigwig, accusing the organization of creating an "appearance" that it was compromised because it has received almost $1 million from Ritalin’s manufacturer
Burton was incensed that 6 million American children were on Ritalin. The NIH says 2 million. But whatever the real number is, it’s dangerously well over the top.
Even the CHADD bigwig, who has denied any lobbying for drug companies, now apparently admits that things have gone out of control in the diagnosis of ADHD. And also according to a story in the New York Post this week, the head of the National Institute of Mental Health says that his organization is "concerned about improper diagnosis of ADHD."
Concerned? A little late to be "concerned." Where was this inept administrator (Dr. Richard K. Nakamura) when doctors began experimenting with the brains of young children? In fact, where have all the Members of Congress been when doctors in recent years have been doing quickie ADHD diagnoses of children and prescribing Ritalin like candy? Out on their yachts? On junkets? Nice of Burton to finally get a little tough on this issue.
Burton now would like to see some restrictions on how groups such as CHADD are funded. Please, give me a break, Dan; don’t make yourself look like a fool. Because it ain’t gonna happen.
While the entire U.S. Congress - all members of the Rip Van Winkle Club - have been snoozing, the drug industry has been hoping to create front groups all over the map in the health arena. CHADD, despicable, as it is, in my humble estimation, is merely one tiny pod among many, that have been receiving drug company loot.
This is a crisis that should erupt as large in scale as the ongoing interest in CEOs of major corporations. Who ultimately will be held responsible for the maiming of children?

Thanks for this post, Hoople.
Having being "diagnosed" with ADHD myself when I was about 5 years old, I was on Ritalin for nearly 10 years and wondered how much unnecessary damage that the drug has done to my body.
After being taken off the drug when I was 15, I had massive withdraw symptoms for about 3 months.
Since then, I've suffered from heart palpitations, panic attacks, insomnia, among various other conditions.
And my attention span is just as good as anyone else's........with no hyperactivity.
Makes you go "hmmmmm"........ |

Parents May Face Jail Over Compulsory Drug Orders
By Charles Begley
29 September 2002
Parents of children diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) will face jail under proposals in the new Mental Health Bill if they refuse to drug their children, a psychiatrist has warned.
Dr Bob Johnson, who is at the forefront of a campaign against the increasing reliance on drugs to treat hyperactive children, said the wide-ranging powers of the Bill would over-rule the wishes of parents.
"The Bill is so punitive it dispenses with all civil and human rights. Parents who have reservations about pumping their children full of drugs to control them would be classed as denying their children treatment," he said. "It's only a matter of time before parents find themselves in breach of such orders which are fully backed by the courts."
Dr Johnson, a clinical psychiatrist for 40 years, said the huge rise in the use of drugs was worrying. The number of prescriptions of the most popular ADHD drug, Ritalin, stood at 208,000 last year, up from just 2,000 a decade earlier.
Some parents say they have little choice but to use drugs for their children. Andrea Bilbow, who runs the Attention Deficit Disorder Information and Support Service (Addiss), has given her 15-year-old son Ritalin for nearly a decade. "If there was another way I would take it, but at the moment it's the only treatment which gives him any quality of life," she said.
The Department of Health dismissed claims that new legislation would lead to parents being jailed, but admitted the proposals would extend compulsory treatment orders.

I was "diagnosed" with ADD when I was about 27 or so. I was put on ritalin and I felt much better, not because it calmed me down, but it sped me up so I felt "normal" However, after taking it for about a year, I was concerned about the side effects, in my case tremoring to the point that I had a hard time writing, and as an artist I did not appreciate my shaky hands at all.
My personal theory on the dramatic rise of so called ADD/ADHD is because of the way television, movies and commercials are now filmed and presented. For example, I don't have much patience to watch any movie from the 1960's or earlier, or many foriegn films because they are considered by today's standards "slow". With the way commercials and MTV and movies are filmed there is a trend to pepper the viewer with blasts of practically sublimial images and very quick speeds. I think that this somehow affects the cognitive development of children where information is shown in short bursts.
I am not sure about myself, but that is my reasoning for what is going on today. |

Well AramageddonOuttaHere, that's a very good point you made. Thank you. You got me to move into a new viewpoint on this whole issue.
There is no doubt that the particle flow is way faster than it used to be and we have all, in a gradient manner, adjusted (or not) to a this acceleration of particle flow. However, personally, I do not believe that TV, movies or commercials are the source of this. I think that these media forms are just manifesting a condition that is occurring. Occurring where? I don't know - physical universe, spiritual universe or some other un-named universe. But it is an empirical fact that the particle flow has accelerated and continues to do so (surely we've all observed this to some degree).
Generally, those who are targetted to be labelled ADD/ADHD and given ritalin are individuals who have accelerated particle flow. When a fast moving particle comes in contact with a slower moving particle there is disagreement. The slower will attempt in almost any way possible to cause the one moving faster to become slower. The one moving faster will attempt in almost any way possible to cause the one moving slower to become faster. Of course, these attempts do not work and only serve to create standing ridges of energy in the personal space of each which results in a more solid appearing and acting personality.
Maybe the invention of ADD/ADHD is only on the surface about making money - instead, maybe it's really about the slow ones trying to make the fast ones slow like they are.
Too simple? Well, truth is simple. The more complex anything is the further away from truth it is (my reality).

Hoople ,You hit the nail on the head . Vaccines, preservatives, are some of my likely candidates along with, are you ready for this,I think some of the ADD problems are a direct result of mothers smoking and boozing during pregnacies.Any else have any personal opinions on the cause of ADD,'attention deficeit disorder'. When I started my meds ,it took about two days of dexadrine and my world slammed on the brakes. It was nice, slowwing down enough, so as to relate to how slow other seem to be going. Just a few notes to pass on . Thanks
