Show Me Truth:
I read 1984 back in high school too. I didn’t think too much about it then. It is pretty funny that as soon as you check out a book there is a trail that leads right to your door! Talk about 1984! LOL!
In my county library system, I can go online to see what books are in their catalog, how many copies there are, what libraries have them, if they are on the shelf or checked out, etc. Does your county have an online catalog? If not that’s too bad - I use mine ALL the time for tracking and reserving! I recently checked out 1984 and Animal Farm. It took 2 months before I got my hands on them. I was not done reading them when my Due Date came up and I could not renew them because someone else requested them. Maybe these books are just as popular in your necks of the woods as they are in mine!??!

Hey JBE,
Excellent idea about using the online catalog. Not sure if my library has one, but worth checking into. Not so sure though, as all librarians I talked to (but one) said they weren't allowed to 'discuss' how long a book had been out from our library. Not sure why, just policy.
Since I didn't have a copy of Waco:The Rules of Engagement I requested it to be ordered from my library. It disappeared within weeks of my being the first person to check it out and returning it, and was never returned, after me. I requested another copy, the library ordered it, and it too shortly met the same fate. I realize there are many explainable coincidences in the world and if I requested a third, fourth, fifth, sixth, etc. copy probably one would remain, eventually, it's just that those subects are very popular with the public.
Perhaps my interaction with "Feds" on the computer (especially on the waco board) and on several boards over the years has made me a bit 'wary' of much of the behavior I witnessed coming from those who seem determined to support The Lie. The behavior of "These people" becomes CRYSTAL after years of watching and interacting, but of course one must not be to quick to judge. Or conversley too slow.
