Views count reset ? PostSun Jan 04, 2004 8:29 pm  Reply with quote

This is a question for the "administrators" of this forum.

Why did the views count for this forum suddenly revert to zero for all threads?

It should be noted that at the time the global warming thread had over 2200 views, far more than almost all others, in any category, on this forum.

Coincidence?

Of course, they always are....at least on this forum.

Also, why did it suddenly become impossible to add to the global warming thread?

Is there a size quota for individual threads?

ST, if you look around at a lot of other threa topics you will notice that many threads have fewer "Views" than "Responces".
This is of course impossible.
The original "High Hopes" ran into this several years ago, the view counter was in the tens of thousands one minute, then zero the next. Next thing I knew, I could not even post to it.
The same thing happened to "CT Reports~post here"
both of those had very high page counts and lots of responces.
Your topic of course is loaded with many pictures and graphs and text manipulations as to font commands.
It seems from past experience that the more complex and lengthy a thread gets, the more likely of a lockup.
Thermit could not figure out what happened to high hopes, and then CT Reports, so the best way to deal with it was to start fresh thread and notate the original thread.
Not the best solution, but not a conspiracy either.
You might find that your original thread will "unlock" at some point in the future, BUT when / if it does, it will relock after just a few additions, so I think there is a maximum capability that gets overloaded.

PS, rest assured that lots of people are reading your topic
It just is not being recorded in "Views"
Poke around in "Who's Online" and you will see how much reading is being done on what topics
Forget the "Views counter"
it does not work anymore for ANY thread

Well, I just ran back through 9 pages of Chemtrails archive topics, and it appears that every one of them was reset to zero "views".
It is interesting that some very old topics have gotten quite a few views since this universal zero reset.

Regarding the view counts, this is an ongoing issue. The problem basically arises due to the design of the feature, which uses a flat file, instead of a proper database to store the information. Occasionally the locking mechanisms fail, and the file gets partially stomped. I may simply remove the views feature because of this. Would people rather have no view counts, than a sometimes broken count?

Regrading the Global Warming thread, there is indeed a limit to the practical size of a thread, as it gets larger (based on size of all posts), it reaches a point where it cannot be completely regenerated in the alloted time. I may be able to increase the alloted time by a second, which could help. In the meantime, we've been dealing with this situation by creating a fresh thread and cross-linking them together. I have done this for the Global Warming thread with Global Warming (Part II).

Sorry about these problems.

mark, Thermit,

Thanks for your reply and explanation on the views count issue, as well as the capacity limitations of the "Global Warming" thread.

I have already initiated a follow on thread, more appropriately titled, "Anthropogenic Induced Climate Instability", which already contains a significant amount of information.

It was Halva that started the original "Global Warming" thread and that name was his choice. The problem is that name is overly simplistic and subject to ridicule. The facts are that man's impact on the climate is quite complex, and while there is widespread "warming", other areas are actually "cooling".

The complex relationship between the increase in greenhouse gases, heating of the troposphere, cooling of the stratosphere, and ozone depletion is tightly intermixed.

I intend to expand the discussion to include the climate and atmospheric impacts of commercial aviation shortly...more in line with the theme of this board.

It is questionable whether SEŅOR Eduardo Ferreyra will continue with his propaganda on the new thread as he was last caught with an extreme, and easily disproved, flasehood, that Polar Stratospheric Clouds do not occur outside the Antarctic Polar Vortex.

This, of course, is completely false as such clouds are reported to be occuring at increasing frequency, longer duration and lower latitudes. They are extremely important to the depletion of stratospheric ozone.

And as we have seen in bold red letters, SEŅOR Eduardo Ferreyra states that "there is no global ozone depletion. Period."

Please delete the "Global Warming 2" thread.

If possible, add a final post to "Global Warming" saying that it is continued at:

"Anthropogenic Induced Climate Instability"

Thanks,
ST
