NASA tries to counter 'moon landing hoax' PostWed Nov 06, 2002 1:37 pm  Reply with quote

No Apollo Moon Landing? NASA Book to Combat Doubts
Tue Nov 5, 1:15 PM ET

By Deborah Zabarenko

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Moon rocks weren't enough. Neither was testimony from astronauts or even photographic evidence. So NASA (news - web sites) has commissioned a mini-book to show that yes, indeed, Americans did land on the Moon.

Most humans on Earth accept that U.S. astronauts first got to the moon aboard the Apollo 11 mission on July 20, 1969. But those who don't believe have created a sort of cottage industry of doubt, and that is what NASA wants to combat.

"I'd been concerned for some time that there was this story that's circulating about how we never landed on the Moon and we would get, periodically, calls from people about how to respond to that, especially from teachers," said Roger Launius, NASA's former chief historian.

Launius had long wanted to put together an educational aid for teachers and others who wanted to counter the doubters, and in September, NASA agreed to pay aeronautics engineer James Oberg $15,000 to write a monograph gathering up materials answering the skeptics, point by point.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration has dealt with the controversy for decades, without much fanfare, but Launius said the questioning intensified in 2001 after the Fox television network aired "Conspiracy Theory: Did We Land on the Moon?"

This program gave another voice to the doubters, whose arguments are scattered broadly over the Internet and have even spawned a backlash from scientists who view the doubters' contentions as simply ridiculous.

Those who doubt the Apollo moon landings maintained the United States lacked the technology to send humans to the Moon and was so desperate to appear to win the space race against the Soviet Union that it faked the moon mission on movie sets.

The doubters said the fake was done so poorly that there is ample evidence of fraud, including a picture of astronauts planting the American flag that allegedly shows the flag rippling in the wind. The skeptics contended there can be no breeze on the moon, so the picture must have been faked.

On its own Web page debunking the Apollo doubters --

http:/liftoff.msfc.nasa.gov/news/2001/news-moonlanding.asp -- NASA agreed that there is no Earth-type breeze on the moon, and there is no atmosphere either.

DID THE FLAG WAVE IN THE WIND?

But when the astronauts struggled to plant the U.S. flag in the lunar surface, they twisted it around a bit before it stuck, and that naturally created ripples in the flag.

The ripples would have dissipated within seconds on Earth, where the atmosphere would have stopped them. But on the Moon, the rippling went unchecked, making it look as if it were being carried by the wind.

There are other sites, including www.badastronomy.com, that take aim at the substance of the doubters' claims. The site's creator, astronomer Phil Plait, was blunt in his condemnation of the doubters, whom he calls conspiracy theorists.

"The craziness involves people who think that the NASA Apollo Moon missions were faked," Plait said on the site. "There are lots of rumors spreading around about this, and rest assured they are all completely false. The claims made by these conspiracy theorists are actually all wrong, sometimes laughably so."

The controversy recently emerged from cyberspace in the person of Bart Sibrel, who has made a film questioning the Apollo Moon missions and who confronted astronaut Buzz Aldrin at a Beverly Hills hotel on Sept. 9 and demanded that Aldrin swear on a Bible that he had in fact walked on the moon.

The 72-year-old Aldrin, the second man ever to touch the lunar surface, punched the 37-year-old Sibrel in the face. Sibrel asked that assault charges be filed, but Los Angeles County prosecutors declined. A videotape of the incident showed Sibrel following Aldrin on the street with a Bible and calling him a "thief, liar and coward," one prosecutor said.

Launius, who recently moved from NASA headquarters to the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC, said he has no illusions about whether the upcoming monograph, which he describes as a short book, will change every doubter's mind.

"We know that there are groups of people out there, individuals out there, that you're never going to convince of something like this," Launius said. "That's not the audience.

"The audience are those who are basically coming to NASA, looking for information, and obviously they'll make up their own minds, but we'll try to put the best possible information in their hands," Launius said.

I am very skeptical about a "Man" gone to the moon.

The Van Allen Radiation belts are proven to have a radiation level so high that scientists agree that anything getting near them literally gets "cooked".

My question is...HOW did we escape the cosmic radiation of the Van Allen belts on the moon missions?

the nature of man is to conquer and rule. If we can go to the moon there would be a race like one never seen before, and the winner would be ruler, and act as God on his own planet

I disagree....

Man's distinguishing characteristics between him/her and the animals is a higher conciousness and a moral center.

Man's "willingness" to conquer comes from the reptilian side of the brain...the R-complex at the top of the spine(smallest part of the brain)....the part that controls fear, territoriality, and hostility, and would go as far as to say even greed.

Last time I checked we are closer to primates and mammals than reptiles.

Acting as "God" on his home planet?

Man CANNOT survive without the planet...therefore the PLANET "acts as God" a hell of a lot more than man will ever hope to be.

Our species will be a lot better off if we use the cerebral cortex(largest part of our brains that control higher thought) instead. We just MAY get out of the first 100 years of the 21st Century without destroying ourselves.

The van Allen belts are a region above the Earth where the Earth's magnetic field traps particles of solar wind. A person would get a lethal dose of radiation if they stayed there long enough. The Apollo missions pass through them quickly, in about an hour. There wasn't enough time to get a lethal dose, and infact the metal hull did protect them to a large extent.

There was this satellite that was put into orbit, I cannot remember any of the details, but the full story has appeared in national geographic magazine, I remember reading it a long time ago. The satellites sole purpose was to TEST the severity of bombardment from particles in space....there were many experiments, from gold foil to glass, thick metals, and such, I believe. The satellite almost came back to Earth the hard way, because it did not get retrieved as it should have. It was considered a loss and was expected to burn up and crash back to Earth, except one of the shuttles rescued it at the last minute. NASA and everyone else had come off initially as if its demise was no great loss, and it almost seems as if they WANTED to lose it. When it finally was brought back to Earth and was studied, the results were surprising to say the least. The thing was in SHREDS, in PIECES, the amount of damage to it was unbelievable; space had NEVER been considered that hostile before. It is possible that some people knew just how hostile space really is, and did not want this knowledge to become common, because it would go a long way towards disproving the moon missions. It appears Clarke was right again, we need barriers of Ice to catch and deflect this constant particle rain that occurs everywhere out in space. Collier was the first to catch onto the fact that perhaps the moon missions were staged. He caught a lot of grief over it. But very few people understand how intrinsic and insidious the mind control science perped on us really is. Who needs guns to take over America when they can get inside your head? Matrix indeed, Americas real God is in the TV....You see, it is just cost effective to CONVINCE people of what you want them to believe, instead of trying to force it on them....Oh, and By The Way, the original shuttle that was supposed to have brought the satellite back? It was the Challenger, and as we all know now it was blown to pieces on takeoff....I believe this happened in an effort to hide the bush complicity in cocaine dealings worldwide which was just coming to light from a story released less than a month earlier by AP, concerning the iran/contra scandal, and also to keep this satellite from being retrieved. The Challenger disaster was no accident, and its purpose was dual...to distract the nation via mind control AWAY from bush drug dealings, and to make sure nobody ever found out that we STILL DO NOT HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY TO GO TO THE MOON!!! Visit www.barryandtheboys.com. I am sure we do not have any correct data on damage done to other satellits in orbit, or the space stations. Comrades.

Addition to my last post here. If we could trust our government not to fake pix, we should be able to see the landing sites on the moon with some of the advanced telescopic sats, no? At least some of the much vaunted Laser Reflector Stations I have always heard about....I mean, there are things that supposedly can even look BELOW the surface of the moon, so the surface should not be too much of a problem....I know there are excuses made that angles are wrong, and the landing sites are not visible to us from Earth; (How Convenient! Smells Like Cydonia to me) and its too bad we CANNOT trust them. They are masters of deception and doctoring of film or anything else they can use to pull the wool over peoples eyes, and keep it that way. Visit keyholecorp.com and get an idea of what should be possible in imagery if we were allowed to access it. If hubble can see as far as it can, and in such detail, surely we should be able to pinpoint landing sites on the moon, wouldn't you think? But this will not happen I am sure, even though it sure would clarify a lot. if you study the intelligence apparat in place here, and understand NASA's role in it, I mean REALLY understand it, you will also understand that NASA has never had a SPACE program....NASA IS a PLANETARY CONTROL PROGRAM. Chemtrails, HAARP, and who knows what else are just secondary and tertiary projects within a major project, and that major project is this: To Make A Prison Of The Entire Planet Earth. Food and Water and Energy. Its all tied into controlling us through control of food and water and energy. I would LOVE to be proved wrong in all this, but so far, not.

http://www.lunaranomalies.com/coffin.htm

A new story on the "Space.com" web site has put another nail in the coffin of the notion that "we never went to the Moon." As reported on that page a few days ago, two researchers, Misha Kreslavsky of Brown University and Yuri Shkuratov of the Kharkov Astronomical Observatory in the Ukraine, have discovered evidence in images from the Navy's 1994 Clementine probe that confirm the landing site of Apollo 15.

They had been comparing the Clementine images to Lunar Orbiter and Apollo images taken over thirty years ago for evidence of fresh cratering activity. In doing so, they discovered that there was disturbed regolith around the exact location of the Apollo 15 landing site. Although the descent stage of the LM cannot be discerned in the images, the evidence of activity around the exact location of the "alleged" landing site is too precise to be coincidental.

My above posts....unnnhhh.... I suppose sometimes I like to play D's advocate a little too hardily....never took colliers work seriously, and the only thing that made me lean towards his way of thinking finally was when I started to learn how much money has been spent on mind control science here...I really do not know if we went to the moon or not, would HATE to think we didn't, after all we have heard and seen. I suppose the last two posts by me are a measure of disrespect for our government and result from my first hand knowledge of all the lying they do...have been studying enterprise mission and am glad the last post (right before this one) came up, because one way to prove we went to the moon is just to get pix of landing sites, should be easy....I think perhaps hoagland and hancock are onto something, and maybe what collier was seeing (Causing him to believe the photos were hoaxed) was actually artifacts...he could not put that together it was just too far fetched for the time, so he may have glommed the photos were hoaxed because he was seeing order where you would not "Reasonably" expect to see order...well, it will eventually prove one way or the other, and you can call me "Waiting Expectantly". I know about Cydonia and cannot refute that stuff, plus the things in s america, other aspects of the assimilation are clicking...nice to learn, innit?

Where any of you alive during the Apollo missions?

Mech, aka " cut and paste waste " you doubt EVERYTHING, why don't you leave America if you don't love it?

I guess I "don't love America" if I dare to QUESTION something that I feel is a flawed story at best.

If America becomes a nation of people who don't ask questions and BLINDLY accept what is spoonfed to them...THEY need to get out of this country...not me.

I still think the Apollo missions are questionable....as Is NASA and of course our CORRUPT government.

How dare anyone criticise or call our government corrupt!

Besides the moon landing happened with Nixon in the White House!
Republicans don't lie!

It's unamerican to question the US goverment:
>"Here in America we are descended in blood and in spirit from revolutionists and rebels - men and women who dare to dissent from accepted doctrine. As their heirs, we may never confuse honest dissent with disloyal subversion." - Dwight D. Eisenhower<

Besides there is no evidence that any Republican President has ever lied to US:
>

By Scott Peterson | Staff writer of The Christian Science Monitor
MOSCOW - When George H. W. Bush ordered American forces to the Persian Gulf - to reverse Iraq's August 1990 invasion of Kuwait -part of the administration case was that an Iraqi juggernaut was also threatening to roll into Saudi Arabia.
Citing top-secret satellite images, Pentagon officials estimated in mid-September that up to 250,000 Iraqi troops and 1,500 tanks stood on the border, threatening the key US oil supplier.
But when the St. Petersburg Times in Florida acquired two commercial Soviet satellite images of the same area, taken at the same time, no Iraqi troops were visible near the Saudi border - just empty desert.
"It was a pretty serious fib," says Jean Heller, the Times journalist who broke the story. <

Well....
what was that about deadly radiation in the Van allen belt?

Is that a Liberal lie? www.centennialofflight.gov/essay/Dictionary/ RADIATION_BELTS/DI160.htm

>On January 31, 1958, during the International Geophysical Year, the USA launched the Explorer I satellite. It carried a geiger counter to measure cosmic ray intensity for a global survey being made by James Van Allen. The results were so strange that instrument malfunction was suspected…

In March of that year Explorer III revealed that the geiger counter had been choked by radiation intensity a thousand times greater than it could handle. Van Allen concluded that the Earth was surrounded by doughnut-shaped radiation belts. These belts were promptly dubbed the Van Allen belts.
>very high particle fluxes would overwhelm the counter and produce zero counts,<
>At low altitudes, only cosmic rays were detected; then as the satellite rose the recorded counting rate increased up to the highest it could record, and it stayed pegged there for a while. At a still higher altitude it abruptly fell to zero, and during descent the same transitions occurred in reverse order. The periods of zero counts near apogee clearly marked not the absence of radiation but a very high radiation flux: the Geiger counter was discharged so frequently that it did not recover between pulses and its output signals decreased until they no longer triggered the counting circuit.<
>Van Allen, 1995]. Such an interpretation would have implied a huge flux of electrons, of order 100 million per cm-sq. sec, a figure which proponents of manned space flight viewed with justified alarm.<
so reading both sides..leaves me with the statements of NASA quoted above wich belies the "baffle 'em with BS" more recent statements.

would that huge flux of electrons, of order 100 million per cm-sq have fogged their film, forcing them to use footage from mockups instead of actual photos.

could it be, they went, but none of the pictures turned out;
so they released those horribly obviously faked photos....??????

I'm skeptical of most about NASA but I'm still unsure on the moon issue, maybe we went.

This fella thinks he has the answers, I haven't seen his film, has anyone here?....
http://www.moonmovie.com/commentary.htm

I am Bart Winfield Sibrel, the writer, producer, director of "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Moon" (moonmovie.com), a controversial documentary which questions the authenticity of the manned moon landings some thirty-three years ago. As an investigative journalist I spent five years and $500,000 researching this topic which seems, on the surface, to be completely ludicrous. Then I came upon a highly credible source, in his late seventies, who I verified worked for the space program during the 1960's. He asserted, most confidently, that the Apollo moon landings were first, impossible, and second, falsified as a Cold War tactic to bluff the Soviet Union into thinking the United States had greater capability than it really did.

I discovered that the highest ranking official at NASA resigned, without explanation, just days before the first Apollo mission. All three crew members of the first historic flight also resigned shortly thereafter. Neil Armstrong, the most famous astronaut because of supposedly being the first man on the moon, refused to even appear in a single still picture on the moon! Aside from the initial press conference immediately following the event, in which he seems very disgruntled, he has not given a single interview on the subject, in print or on camera, to anyone . . . ever! Some photography allegedly from the moon contain shadows that intersect with each other. (NASA claims that only sunlight was used and the sun always casts parallel shadows.)

In my research at NASA I uncovered, deep in the archives, one mislabeled reel from the Apollo 11, first mission, to the moon. What is on the reel and on the label are completely different. (I suspect an editor put the wrong label on the tape thirty-three years ago and no reporter ever had the motive to be as thorough as I.) It contains an hour of rare, unedited, color television footage that is dated by NASA's own atomic clock three days into the flight. Identified on camera are Neil Armstrong, Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, and Michael Collins. They are doing multiple "takes" of a single shot of the mission, from which only about ten seconds was ever broadcast. Because I have uncovered the original unedited version, mistakenly not destroyed, the photography proves to be a clever forgery! Really! IT MEANS THEY DID NOT WALK ON THE MOON! (See "Uncovered Footage Described" from the home page.)

A USA Today writer composed an article calling my assertion "impossible" without even viewing "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Moon" which contains the unprecedented footage, that I believe, would prove the fraud in a court of law! A friend of mine brought to my attention a human condition called, "Cognitive Dissonance." That is when someone has a long held belief rooted so deeply in their psyche that they can not see anything else, even if visible facts present themselves that prove contrary to their belief. The pride inducing moon landings can certainly cloud some people from seeing the distasteful truth. I showed this key footage to a retired military officer who believed in the moon landings. He actually walked out of my house when he saw it! (See no evil.) I was "dissing" America in his mind, even if it was true.

American military and political leaders "dissed" their own country when they falsified history by refusing to accept public defeat after John Kennedy pledged to "Put a man on the moon by the end of the 1960's." "When pride comes, then comes disgrace." (Proverbs 11:2) The government had already spent an equivalent of one hundred thirty-five billion dollars of taxpayer's money and disclosing their weakness to fulfill the boastful goal was apparently too much for their pride, or reelection chances, to endure. There was strategic advantage to the Soviet Union thinking the United States was that capable. It boosted national spirit during the Vietnam War. It made friends of friends in the government very, very rich.

Twenty years after Apollo, with much improved and superior technology than that of 1969, a mission only 1/100th as complicated, the earth orbit of a telescope (Hubble), was nearly as many years behind schedule as the entire development of the lunar landing program, and then, after five failed launch attempts, didn't even work when it arrived at its destination which was only 1/1000th the distance to the moon. In addition, it took another two years to make the necessary repairs to get it operational. Even today an unmanned space probe the size of a toaster oven requires nearly ten years to develop. In hindsight, isn't this rather odd?

This whole endeavor really pushes peoples' buttons when it comes to national pride. If questioning the integrity of our government is unpatriotic, then I am in good company, for this is precisely how our nation was founded. George Washington, the "Father" of our country, considered it a disgrace to his office to lie about the complete depravity of his army's morale, competence, resources and numbers against the attacking British army. He refused to "white wash" his dispatches to congress in order to falsely boost their pride or spirits. This kind of leadership, "I cannot tell a lie," is sorely missed in our government.

Uhhh we did go back. There was more than one mission there. There were even more scheduled that were cancelled due to budget cuts also
