Mutant Mushroom update....

Hi all, Well folks, I called and called all around, LSU, County extention service, etc. and described the many huge sizes, odd shapes, weird colors, rotten smell and the "slime" the rotting ones leave and was told, "All is well"..."Nothing can be done", and "Mow em down". I asked if they could be toxic and harmful to animals and was told, that several of them could be toxic but dogs usually don't "bother" them. Oh well, I feel so much better now...NOT! The yard stinks like rotting meat or flesh and is slimy from the darn things...I can't stand to sit on my decks for now...I hope the mutant "critters" will creep away soon! ^j^ Love, Joanne |

I have noticed here in No. CA some strange mushrooms in my front yard. The area is in the sun and not moist at all, but under some bushes. These do not look like toad stools, but something I have not seen before. Maybe I will take a picture of them before I get rid of them. |

Anne, I know what you mean! I STILL have the darn things in my yard and it has been dry and cool for days now with plenty of sun and no rain or dampness at all...yet they sprout everywhere, especially out in the open, middle of yard. I have taken many, many pictures for the past month and a half and will be getting to the city to pick up developed pics next week. I hope they come out really well, as, if I can post a few of the "best and freakiest" ones here, people are gonna "flip"! The colors, sizes, and shapes are astounding...some look like huge, flat brown pancakes with short stems, others are smaller, irregular shaped and the brightest yellow I have ever seen, others are smaller, rounder and very brite red, others, bigger and orange, and a few are "jet Black" with stems. No neighbors down the road have these. I often wonder now what that pesky crop duster that annoyed me a few months back so low and all day may have had stuck to his spray boom or blades or whatever. Some shrooms are huge and mishapen, like deformed elephants ears, or something and brown with lots of speckles. And when the "die" and rot, they smell like putrid meat and leave an area of white slime that never seems to leave. We keep the yard up nicely but can't get rid of these. You can actually "see" them growing at nite. They appear in just a few hours time. I know it sounds like I been "munchin em", but what I say is really the truth and kinda creepy! Blessings, Joanne ^j^ |
