Thought this was interesting.
SUV's increase reliance on Mid-Eastern Oil?
Can't they make these things get better gas milage?

Consumers starting to sour on SUV's.
By JEFFREY BALL
Staff Reporter of THE WALL STREET JOURNAL 1/8/03
DETROIT -- An unsettling thought is starting to nag at auto makers who rely on sport-utility vehicles for a big chunk of their profits: The biggest SUVs are becoming uncool. The death of the SUV has been falsely proclaimed off and on throughout its decadelong rise as an American consumer icon. But now some of the Big Three's top executives themselves say they see distinct signs that an important segment of cutting-edge consumers -- not just environmental activists -- are starting to sour on monster SUVs |

I think it is sad that people can get huge 4 digit deductions for buying these gas-guzzling SUVs for "business", but people who buy a low-emissions vehicle get a crappy few hundred dollar deduction, and even that is being phased out fast. Think about it, what message does this send from the government... |

I believe you only get a deduction for miles driven. Not for the fuel.

2001 I looked at and fell in love with Toyota's gas gobbling "HighLander" I really really wanted it. Common sense won out, and now when I fill up my Subaru "OutBack" I'm satisfied. The principal of NOT buying any product or clothing that you know in your heart is impractical, dangerous or seriously over priced will force producers of said products to supply what you will buy. They get away with their greedy pricing, their gas guzzling, and unsafe merchandise simply because the public wants immediate gratifacation or are too lazy to do comparison shopping.

What's so dangerous about SUVs? Cars/trucks are more safe now than ever before.

Ms/Mr Kocky. Would you share with the board your job field or place of employment? |

I thought this one was clever......
http://www.whatwouldjesusdrive.org
"---Congress originally passed the corporate average fuel economy law (CAFE) in 1975 for national security reasons, to make us less dependent on foreign oil from unstable regions. This is still an appropriate rationale. Unfortunately, for years members in the House of Representatives have attached a rider to the Department of Transportation (DOT) Appropriations bill to prevent the DOT from doing the mandated study necessary to raise CAFE standards. Thus, fuel economy is at a 22 year low, and we are more dependent than ever on foreign oil.
In 2001 the U.S. imported over 50% of the nation's oil, with about 25% coming from the Middle East.
* The U.S. spends $20-40 billion a year to defend Middle Eastern oil resources.
* The U.S. sends $200,000 overseas each minute to buy oil products.
* By 2020 oil imports are projected to be 64%.
* Up to 75% of the world's oil reserves are in the Middle East and are controlled by the OPEC oil cartel.
* Oil price spikes from 1979 to 1991 cost the U.S. economy about $4 trillion, and the economy went into recession after each major price shock.-------------"

I've had 4 civics over the years. They are great. I've had 2 SUVs and I still have a 4X4 truck. Who is anybody to say what anybody can and can't drive?
I hope we finish pumping all the oil out of the mid east so they cease being an issue!

I thought David was being genuine and that he really did not know where the "profile" button was. Really.

Feeling Kocky, Thanks for the information. When trying to find your profile, your name did not show up in the member list, hence the question. I asked because of your interest and knowledge in weather formation, period.

which is a lie and david knows it, he will pin you down to your occupation then use that to accuse you of being a shill for the "powers that be"...david is not *being genuine* at all kocky...
it's just a matter of time before you start recieving posts like this one below...david's got serious personal *issues*...you've been warned...
If this is a non-issue, why are you here? Trying to save us from ourselves? Trying to save the world from us? What is it that makes you take the time to post on a non-issue, something that does not exist?
You and your kind are becoming transparent, more so each day and with each post.
Please do us all a favor and save your BS, and lies for another board.

It would seem to me you are the one with the deep personal issues seeker. My post was directed to 'FK'.
Unless something has changed in the past 1 hour, Feeling Kocky is not on the member list under "F".
