This looks promising. Personally, I prefer an IBM 970 aka G5 to the Intel and AMD iron. But, to those who invested in Intel or AMD boxes, you can install Cherry OS, and have the advantage of a more sophisticated, mature, and secure OS, Mac OSX.
I don't think there will be a mass exodus to but cheap PC's and put in MacOSX. the operation will be two OS's inside a PC, much like running Win 2000 and Linux, and having the choice at boot.
I am more than ready to put MacOSX inside my PC, that is used for testing cross-platform apps and documents.
After reading over the Cherry OS pages, it seems that it will run at 80% of an equivilant G4 or G5's clock speed. In other words, a 2 ghz Pentium will run at 80% of a 2 ghz G5. Not bad.
Intel is also developing a hardware based MacOSX emulator that is updated by software. It seems with Apple's stock going through the roof, Microsoft and Intel's stalling, a majority of security firms, including the US government, are using OSX. Working with three different OS's daily, OSX is by far the easier and more secure.
Right now, Cherry OS is running emulation, but will eventually not need Win2000 or XP as a base. FINALLY!!!!!!! |

Yes, but more efficient since Microsoft nows owns VirtualPC, and I feel slows down the emulation. CherryOS, by all reports runs much faster, and will eventually not need the Windows base to run on. |
