Hey, Shadow Dancer and I just had a great talk in the chatroom. We-all should figure out a gathering time and try out this excellent feature. If you've never chatted, you'll learn that it's confusing, and that your typing skills show up even worse than usual, but it's kind of fun. To get there, go to http://www.chemtrailcentral.com/cgi-bin/ubbmisc.cgi?action=membersarea
Fill in your UserName and Password (if they're not already there), and press "Submit Identification."
A new page will open. Click on 
A "Chat Gateway" window will open. Type in your screen name. (When you click on the box, you won't see your cursor, but it's there. Just go ahead and type in the name we know you by.) Then press the button which says Volano Chat!
You'll go to another window which has ···CLICK HERE FOR HELP··· across the top. The names of the other chatters will be in a box on the right. Here's the key, though. There is a box at the bottom which says Select a name for the profile. Double click a name for a private chat. ABOVE that box is a long narrow box. THAT'S THE PLACE where you will be typing in your dialog. Set your cursor in there. Type in whatever you want to say, press "Enter" and whatever you typed will move into the large black rectangle where dialog is displayed for everybody to read.
One of the things about chatrooms is that several conversations tend to go on simultaneously. And you don't get the verbal and visual clues you get in a real conversation, so it's often hard to follow. Even worse--chatroom software sometimes locks up and kicks you out unexpectedly! So you'll get to dust yourself off, log in again, and rejoin the group. But give it a try. I think you'll enjoy it.

I really do like the feature of the chat room here and I've visited it a number of times.... even left the window open for some time while I read up on news from my usual web sites. Unfortunately I have yet to find anyone there to chat with. 
I don't know how it could be accomplished but there needs to be some type of an icon or something that will give an alert when people are actually in there. Or maybe a schedule where someone can plan to be there during a predetermined time. Just an idea. |

I can see where this is going already... I've only got one day off this week and I've learned that Saturday isn't really the best time for hosted chat. So one of the other mods is going to have to volunteer... |

Thanks for posting those extra instructions, 3T3L1!
I'll suggest that anybody who is in a chatting mood, post a little message to this thread before heading into the chatroom. Then anyone else who comes along, who might want to chat, will see the message and join you. This can work as an unofficial hosted chat. Also, if you are wanting to get some chatting started, be sure to stay in the chatroom for a while. You can leave the chat running while you wait for someone to show up, like Catnip57 suggested.
There are no logs of who chats or the contents of any chats. If you start a private chat with someone, it is fairly secure. |

Also, if you are wanting to get some chatting started, be sure to stay in the chatroom for a while. I tried that Thermit, it was rather lonely and desperate-looking standing in the center of a quiet bare room, just waiting for some poor just-as-lonely-but-not-quite-as-desperate-looking soul to show up for a chat. Much better to pre-arrange a chat than risk looking the desperate lonely fool ~ ~ ~ ~ ~  |

Thermit, could you have some kind of icon which pops up here at the forums and tells us "some poor lonely desperate Canadian is waiting to talk to someone else in the chatroom"? Or words to that effect?
Better leave now. I don't want the Canadian sic-ing any cats on me.  |

Okay... I'm in the chat room right now... Where are the chatters! You know ... I'm wondering if those audio alerts really work? Hope someone shows up so I can see if the alerts really work. LOL |
