Implant to cure depression, WTF!

Ironically I find this very story to be depressing. They're slowly, step by step, getting people used to the idea of becoming more and more cyborg and less human.

quote: F.D.A. Considers Implant Device for Depression
The Food and Drug Administration may soon approve a medical device that would be the first new treatment option for severely depressed patients in a generation, despite the misgivings of many experts who say there is little evidence that it works.
The pacemaker-like device, called a vagus nerve stimulator, is surgically implanted in the upper chest, and its wires are threaded into the neck, where it stimulates a nerve leading to the brain. It has been approved since 1997 for the treatment of some epilepsy patients, and the drug agency has told the manufacturer that it is now "approvable" for severe depression that is resistant to other treatment.

Aldous Huxley knew what was coming clear back in the 1930s
BRAVE....NEW....WORLD.
A drugged, totally controlled society.

Cool, I'll check those links out.
Can an admin move this to the health section? Not sure why the hell I put this here? _________________ "You find me offensive? I find you offensive, for finding me offensive" |

What a crock. People, especially doctors, don't seem to pay attention
as to what the actual causes of depression are. We seem to keep going in the wrong direction all the time. |

The suppression or internalization of anger, sadness and/or depression can lead to major health problems, outwardly expressed violence and even suicide. People shouldn't be afraid to express their rage, it's just a matter of doing it productively. The implosive personality that holds it all inside tends to be the most dangerous. These energies must be released in a constructive manner though and that's what the therapy should consist of. People simply aren't being taught how to express their emotions properly, especially males who are raised to feel ashamed of doing so period. Go punch the hell out of an inanimate object if you have to, but never keep it all inside to fester and build-up. It's not a matter of medication or implants because they only numb the symptoms. What really needs to be acknowledged though are the life circumstances and negative perceptions that created the imbalance in the first place. I don't believe that chemical imbalances are the cause of such problems, they are instead a misdiagnosed side-effect. Simply drugging yourself up does nothing to solve the root problem. I've personally found that loud music has a cathartic appeal to it that enables me to expel certain unwanted energies easier and without incident. I also believe that the weather systems are earth's way of releasing similar energies and any attempt to thwart these necessary shifts by means of weather control are equally disturbing.
The moral of the story, yell if you're mad, cry if you're sad, do whatever you have to do without hurting yourself or anyone else in the process. Those that do, haven't been taught how to cope with their feelings and problematic situations, simple as that. No pill is going to inform you of such, instead it's more likely to actually increase the risk of suicide as many other studies have shown. Your feelings can either be your best friend or your worst enemy, not to sound like Dr. Phil or anything.
I'll leave you with the insightful words of Rage Against The Machine, "anger is a gift". You just have to know how to utilize it. |

well..I don't know much about this implantation but can say that maybe its needed in very rare cases of severe depression. In most cases depression may be cured on its own or by the patient taking some required physical steps that may be required. |
