Letters to the Editor

Dear sirs:

As critical as it is to oppose the unethical and foul, it is just as valuable to be able to recognize them, when you see them.

It is unrealistic, to say nothing of dangerous, to deny how apparently conniving and brutal society in the United States has become.

The nation invaded another country with no apparently legitimate cause, only for the evident purpose of stealing its resources, and all on what seems a craven lie by a depraved Chief Executive.

While earlier Republican administrations may have founded much of their foreign policy on denying the apparent reality of government actions to destabilize valid governments and establish Wall Street-picked dictators, backed by death squads, conservative commentators such as Charles Krauthammer have taken, instead, to justifying this, saying, essentially, that in protecting what he terms "American interests", anything is permissible.

On the basis of this evident attitude of wholesale callousness toward the fate of others, politicians have even campaigned on platforms of how craven they will be in "protecting the lives and welfare of American citizens", and the steadily increasing list of apparent violations of international law by U.S. military forces and the CIA has been "justified" just by claiming that it is "the duty of elected officials to defend Americans". Remember when Christ counseled that the welfare of all human beings is supposed to be our responsibility? That is one point that demonstrates the evident hypocrisy in the Bush Administration's claim of wanting to bring government and religion closer together! Since Christ's admonition was a countering of tendencies toward greed and avarice, it also indicates that the Bush White House operates solely on the basis of unlimited self-centeredness and personal aggrandizement!

This has even expanded to the point where residents of other countries opposing exploitation by corporate crooks, at the point of a U.S. military gun, are defined as de facto "cowards" and "inhuman"! Only because, when CIA-backed and Wall Street funded troops shoot at them, they dare to fight back!

And, where this attitude of evident utter and complete self-absoprtion seems to have taken universal root in the government, it seems to have nourished the spread of the sentiment everywhere throughout equally unscrupulous and unprincipled levels of society.

To be sure, big business, even those companies not directly involved in promoting the butchery of Iraqi patriots in Iraq, has shown a leaning toward this frame of mind. Fox News, for example, apparently nothing more than a mouthpiece for Bush Administration policies and insanities and corporate savegery - cravenly hiding behind a pretense of "journalism" - recently said that companies such as Pfizer, who apparently defrauded the public on dangers of its drug Vioxx, "should not be held liable for that action, because they did so much else to help the public"! The fact that the "else" that they did was something that they charged an arm and a leg for, and that much of that likely involved hiding results where their poisons damaged people's health! Under their dual persona of evidently corrupt money manager, they regularly respond to every disaster, from war to hurricanes, with advice on how corporate vultures can cash in on human suffering by investing in the right stocks, from combat boots to pain medication! To see how close they see military brutality as being to corrupt profiteering, look in on their chillingly entitled investment show, "The Cost Of Freedom". While you're watching, look out for Wayne Rogers. Once an actor who played Alan Alda's sidekick, Trapper John, on "M*A*S*H", he seems to feel he "wised up", that the only thing that counts is ruthless self-enrichment! The Medusa of fast and dirty money seems to have turned a lot of those we formerly thought we could trust to stone!

Fox News is one of the more dramatic areas where evident administration crookedness has infected the world "outside the Beltway". But their apparent philosophy of unleavened greed and contempt for others seems to have filtered into other areas, as well! Cheez-Its has built a campaign built entirely on the credo "Get Your Own Box", for a number of years now! Even Hershey's, what was once taken to be one of the most "uniquely American", and harmless, of companies, now sports the catch phrase that "Sharing Is Overrated"! A car commercial touted the performance of its product with the line saying, "I'll take all the unfair advantage I can get"! A cell phone company shows people unwilling to help their stricken and injured friends by calling for help because "they didn't want to get hit by the roaming charges"! Carrying that evidently depraved sentiment even further, Dairy Queen now has a loathsome advertisement where an entomologist actually kills - yes, kills! - a collegaue, so he can steal his ice cream! The tag line for that commercial says, "A taste to die for"!

The apparent unmitigated evil countenanced and even indulged in by the White House seems steadily to have leaked out, to all those who wish to enslave the "rank and file"!

And it is all the methods the Bush Oval Office seems to utilize, to rape the world, that apparently have caught on elsewhere!

A good example seems to be the apparently criminally complicit retail giant, Wal-Mart.

Their apparent habit of employing low wage illegal aliens, instead of the very people who pay their apparently obscenely high prices, mirrors Bush's apparent determination to turn all of North America into an annex for Mexico!

Adopting the evident Bush credo that "anything that works against my plans for personal profit is de facto universally wrong!", Wal-Mart, for example, apparently has taken to treating critics of its policies the way Bush responds to those who take arms against his attempt to steal their country from them. Employees who have just remarked criticisingly of Wal-Mart's policies, even if in private, and even if truthfully, still have been terminated! And the apparent criminal Bush "Justice department" seems disinterested in pursuing their cause! In a political environment in which the Supreme Court has ruled that, under the apparently devious conjunction with local government, big business should be able to take anything you own - "property" means any of your possessions, not just land! - just because they want it, not even for the purpose of "civic improvement", it should be more than obvious that a central tenet of government seems to be "anything that makes the rich richer"!

And even more Bush tactics have been utilized in the evident desire by criminal local governments to connive with Wal-Mart to rape the public!

The town council of Yelm, Washington, for example, seem to have decided to violate the Constitutional protection of freedom of speech, in order to promote the construction of a Wal-Mart in town limits. Apparently all bribed to break the law, the councilpeople have steadily pushed for the project, while the majority, if not the entirety, of the townspeople have opposed it. A disadvantage of breaking faith with the public, and working against their best interest is that they tend to make their displeasure very obvious. And, where their displeasure is very evident, it becomes harder and harder for you to hide the fact that you have been bribed to ignore their concerns! No governmental group that disregards the expressed opinions of a majority of their constitutency can, evidently, be considered to be acting honorably and legally! A way around this inconvenience to criminal mishandling of governance seems to be simply to outlaw all dissenting opinion against the unethical and underhanded project you have been bribed to promote!

Working in this vein, then, the town government of Yelm, Washington banned the use of the words "Wal-Mart", "big box-stores" and "moratorium" from all public hearings on the matter. For example, if a member of the public who goes through the sign up process to speak at a meeting, and mentions that they will discuss "big box-stores" they will be denied the right to speak, and if anyone should try to get around that by launching unannounced into the subject, they will be ordered to sit down, and, if they refuse, they evidently will be escorted out by armed guards! Depicting themselves as the "victims" - a commonplace among the unscrupulous and low! - the evident thugs on the town council "argue" that they have wearied of hearing constant complaints about the Wal-Mart being erected in the town! As township attorney Brent Dille said, "It's the council's meeting" - that's right, not only have the unscrupulous declared that they own everything you possess, they have now defined all of government to be their possession, as well! - "They can decide what they want to hear and what they're tired of hearing. You can understand if you're barraged for two months at meetings - the same people saying the same thing."

This is actually reflective of a policy the Bush Administration has utilized constantly and ruthlessly, since it inception. Apparently aware that the policies he intended to promote were patently unethical and likely to engender extreme public dissatisfaction, Bush seems to have determined from the beginning to violate the Constitution and thwart freedom of speech. Every visit by Bush to any locale has included the mandatory establishment, and determined maintenance, of "Free Speech Zones". These were essentially concentration camp like enclosures where demonstrators against Bush's policies would be required to be kept penned, until after his visit was over! Anywhere that the president would be - and that the media whores obligatorily agreed to stick to - were ordered not to allow any demonstrators, or, indeed, any form of statements critical of Bush's policies! Anyone who even just held up a placard condemning the president's policies where the television cameras could see them were ordered immediately taken into custody! A 64 year old man was arrested just for wearing an anti-Bush T-shirt, and two nuns were taken in for criticizing Bush in the vicinity of his motorcade! If the areas reserved for "demonstrators" were "Free Speech Zones", the areas near Bush, by definition, have to be "No Free Speech Zones"! An evident violation of the Constitution! If you wonder how such an apparent crime against the country can be taking place, right in front of the people, consider that, as long as the public don't take issue, and as long as the crooks in government have craven thugs with guns promoting their diseased cause, it can continue! And, since the evident liars who make up "the media" seem bribed to ignore all criminality by the Bush White House, perversions like this can be kept from the populace!

The form of response to dissenters is also an evident aping of Bush's malignant method of dealing with opposition to his apparently self-serving machinations. To be sure, the town council does have a point in being distressed by always hearing the same thing, over and over. It can get to be annoying to always be exposed to the same complaints. But how do you deal with it? You can, of course, eliminate the complainers, to make sure they never express their feelings. In the absence of that move as an alternative, you can outlaw those with legitimate complaints from always stating their position. Both of these, the Bush Administration has put into play! Residents of other countries who take up arms, to keep the U.S. military from making their nation a slave state of Halliburton are routinely slaughtered! If all they do is try to voice their complaints, they are handled, and evidently summarily disregarded, by the evident puppets the U.S. installs under sham "elections"! In this country, the "No Free Speech Zones" - and careful bribing of the media to hide the truth! - seem to be the standard for preventing verbal complaints against the apparent dictatorship running out of the Capitol, these days.

There is a third alternative, though, for ending the perpetual litany of complaints about an apparently corrupt action! Namely, stopping the corruption immediately! If those who complain so bitterly are doing so out of resentment for a violation of their rights, and simply justice, then putting an end to that criminality in high places would give them nothing further to complain about! But, if the town council of Yelm, Washington imitate George Bush in the ways they actively handle opposition, they also seem to parrot him in their refusal to handle the opposition in the honorable, decent, righteous way! The antagonism leveled against the U.S. across the globe is the result, apparently, of decade after decade of White House approved destabilizations of legitimate governments, Wall Street sponsored dictatorships, and CIA-assisted death squads! Something as simple as an apology and acknowledgement of U.S. involvement in wholesale international criminality can go a long way toward calming rage against the country! Restoring previous legitimate governments, and lowering the boom on corporate crooks who stole resources from foreign lands, at the point of a United States Army gun can also quiet much of the hatred seething out there! But neither Bush, nor any of his apparent criminal cronies, will do anything like that! Just as the town council of Yelm, Washington, will not do the decent and right thing of no longer accepting bribes from Wal-Mart to rape the township with one of their evident "big box" monstrosities! When, as seems the case with all politicians and CEO's, you see everyone else as a "beast of burden", the last thing you will acknowledge is their having any rights! You will, instead, simply act only to use them for your own comfort and whim! You will refuse to rein in your own heartless, ruthless brutalities and barbarism, you will see them as fit only to be whipped into submission! No "meeting of the minds", for you do not see them as being on a par with you; no "respecting their rights", because you see them as existing only to make you more comfortable! The Yelm town council could easily call a moratorium to Wal- Mart - if an individual citizen threatened to gobble up as much land as the store, the city would find no difficulty at all in halting them in their tracks, by physical force, if necessary! In the same way, President Bush could easily offer up an acknowledgement of how the U.S. has apparently committed wholesale violations of other countries' sovereignty and other peoples' rights.

Both would apparently solve a great many problems that way, but it would mean those in power acceding that the "rank and file" aren't mere beasts, intended only to be exploited! And, no matter what they claim, they do, evidently, see the "rank and file" as there only to be raped! Don't expect the honorable from either!

When big business and government show they have no regard at all for the rights of the public, it is up to the people to ensure their welfare!

They must flood editors' desks at newspapers, news magazines, and television and radio stations, with letters and emails, telling them that they know the truth and demanding that they break the barrier of bribery that has evidently kept them from acknowledging the truth!

The public should deluge politicians' desks with letters and emails demanding a change in how things are done!

The public should boycott Wal-Mart and all the companies that sell through them. They should boycott the oil industry as much as possible, since that seems the chief beneficiary of Bush's evidently maniacal Middle East policies! They should also boycott elections, utterly refusing to vote for anyone, until a solid track record of the public's interests coming before personal fortunes is demonstrated by those in positions of influence! They should also boycott Yelm, Washington, even to driving extra miles to avoid having to drive through!

Most importantly, the public have to involve themselves determinedly in government, so they can always be in a position to reveal the next instance of criminality in high places, when it occurs!
