TV campaign hopes to win over skeptical moms and dads in time of war
quote: When Americans met their finger-pointing Uncle Sam during World War I, advertising became a linchpin of military recruiting almost overnight. Now with U.S. soldiers fighting wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and recruiters struggling to sign up enlistees, the Army has added a new pitch.
The Army is no longer just an "Army of One," it's looking for a few good parents.
A new series of television ads aims to get parents to "Help them find their strength" and not stand in the way of their children signing up. One commercial begins with a teenager telling his mother he has found a way to pay for his college education. When he reveals that the answer is the military, she becomes skeptical.
"Go on," she says cautiously.
"I already checked them out," he says, trying to dissolve her disapproving glare. "And I can get training in about any field I want.
"And besides, it's time for me to be the man."
Satisfied, she smiles. "OK, tell me more."
quote: With the Army unlikely to meet its annual recruiting goals this fiscal year, such scenes taking place at kitchen tables across the U.S. would be welcome music to military brass. This ad, titled "Dinner Conversation," is one of four the Army is running thousands of times this summer that targets parents who are increasingly wary of having their children in the armed forces during wartime.
All the ads show young men in discussions with parents who are skeptical of the Army's benefits--an often true-to-life situation, according to Army officials who say individuals with influence such as parents, teachers and coaches are now 10 percent less likely to recommend military service than in the past.

Hi, I’m fairly new to “CTC” forums, mostly reading! My oldest son’s high school is pushing the Air Force from all angles. My son is in the aviation program and a cadet in Civil Air Patrol. The Air Force recruiters have called and knocked on our door all summer. One recruiter thought he had hit the jackpot when he realized I have all boys, my youngest said “we are all taking private flight lessons.”
As a parent, I believe this is a sneaky way of recruiting. They are children being promised the world on a silver platter. My sons now read fair and balanced current events on CTC! |

Welcome geminisix6! Posts like yours really put a smile on my face because it makes me realize that every effort to establish awareness about this war, however small it may seem at the time makes an impact on someone, somewhere. I really hope that you continue to browse this forum, encourage your kids to do so as well and even feel free to post anything that you feel is pertinent to the cause. There's so much corruption taking place out there that's simply being swept under the rug by the colluded mainstream media conglomerates. The Internet and forums such as these are our last refuge for attaining the truth. The government is well aware of this fact and is actively ramping up its campaign to regulate the web. Please continue to spread the word, we don't want your kids or anyone else's being murdered for such a needless cause. The more people know, the more disapproving they seem to become. Next to poverty and fear, ignorance has become their greatest recruiting tool. People are led to believe that true patriotism entails suiting up and dying for Bush and his oil cronies. 'Your kids' that is and I strongly emphasize that point. The very cowardly individuals that are in the greatest hurry to send your children in to harm's way rarely feel the same urgency of action to actually send their own in to battle. How many unnecessary, careless and greed driven wars do you think would actually be fought if the first people mandated to hit the front lines were the sons and daughters of the politicians and the pro-war radio "personalities" themselves? I guarantee you that the eagerness for war would come to a screeching halt immediately. It's no coincidence that many of the chickenhawks in office beating the war drums have never served themselves and have actually gone to great lengths to avoid their duties. Why should your kids have to die doing something that those in charge didn't have to courage to do themselves?
I'm not sure if you read this article yet but if you haven't I strongly suggest that you do. It pertains to the Cindy Sheehan protest and the heartless, gutless reactions of those on the right to the pain and suffering of her losing her son. Remember this next time your kid or a that of a friend is considering to join this imperialistic, well oiled war machine. Once your kids come back in body bags, they quite frankly "don't care" anymore. Read the following story and contact this filthy lowlife of a "human being" Mike Gallagher and tell him what an un-American jerk he really is. These is indicative of the minds of the pro-war psychopaths that sport their "support the troops" bumper stickers in their ritzy neighborhoods and this piss on those same troops when they come back dead.

I wonder how much this beady-eyed, rabid rat would appreciate some blowhard with a megaphone interrupting the funeral of one of his own kids with disrespectful yells of, "we don't care"?
Neo-con-artist and blowhard Mike Gallagher
Naturally, 'HIS' kids aren't over in Iraq being shot at.

Look at what this idiot said:
quote: “This is not about Cindy Sheehan,” Gallagher said to reporters after leading a chorus of “God Bless America” and “The Star-Spangled Banner.” “We're here to support all our troops and all the men and women who died, including her son. She has the right to believe the way she believes, but we do, too, and that's why we're here.”
Is there not a major inconsistency here?
quote: "WE DON'T CARE"
I'd like to shove his megaphone down his throat. |
