I love how this is being spun by the press.
Democratic maneuver sends Frist, GOP into apoplexy
quote: Minutes after his Democratic counterpart, Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., used a surprise parliamentary maneuver to throw the Senate into a rare closed session, Dr. Frist burst from the chamber and approached the cameras in the hallway.
Without counting to 10, as anger-management experts recommend when you are very, very mad, the majority leader exploded.
"About 10 minutes ago or so, the United States Senate has been hijacked by the Democratic leadership!" he announced. Never, he said, have "I been slapped in the face with such an affront to the leadership of this grand institution." Epithets flew from his mouth: "They have no conviction. They have no principles. They have no ideas. This is a pure stunt."
quote: But yesterday, using the arcane provisions of Standing Rule XXI for the first time in 25 years, the minority party seized the agenda and forced the chamber to close its doors until Republicans agreed to a probe of how the administration handled prewar Iraq intelligence.
For the first time?
Senate Democrats call a timeout
quote: The closed session is infrequent but not unheard-of in the Senate, and is usually conducted to discuss matters of national security.
Since 1929, the Senate has held 53 secret sessions, according to the Congressional Research Service. (The most recent sessions were held during President Clinton's impeachment trial in 1999.)

Rule 21 has been used many times in the past

and the reason it was used this time is that Democrats are trying to force the Republicans to quit white washing the Iraq Pre War Investigations. WHAT DO THEY HAVE TO HIDE??????????????????????????????????????
I would respectfully ask Senator Frist to do his job which is to protect and serve the People and our Consitution then such parlimentary procedures would not be necessary. All those in favor of fascism need to raise their self righteous arms and hollar heil hitler then jump off a bridge or something. All others need to get back to making this Government work for the people and by the people.
Senator Frist is way out of line along with the rest of his cabal. Thank God the Democrats are growing balls because it will take big balls if we are to save the Republic for which they are supposed to stand for and not against. |

Stephanie Miller joked about this tonight.
quote: "They have no conviction. They have no principles. They have no ideas". -Frist
She in other words said that it's the republicans these days that probably have the convictions, in court that is, to go along with their indictments. The irony of course is having to hear Frist babble and bitch on about principles and convictions while he's neck deep in his own drama regarding his questionable stock dealings. _________________ "You find me offensive? Everyone, please do me a favor and listen to some of Miller's show here and tell me if you think it's funny or not? If not, I'll never bug you about it again.

Listen up until they get in to "Right Wing World". They do that segment in the first hour of her show. They bash Fox News, O'reilly, Limbaugh, the whole deal. She's got one guy that does great voice impersonations too.
Not many things get me to laugh that much but this show's pretty damn funny in my opinion.
I don't even think you really have to be in to politics that much to enjoy it.
Swamp, I'm sure that you and Theta would like it. _________________ "You find me offensive? I find you offensive, for finding me offensive" |

I love when they joke about Bill O'reilly and his "no spin" numchucks.
Then they play the song:
"Heeee's a mannn, heeee's a mannnn, he's a reeaaalll big mannnnn".
I also love it when they talk about O'reilly giving disappointed trick-or-treaters "Factor" slacks for Halloween in his neighborhood instead of candy. He's always hawking his "stylish Factor gear" at the end of his show. _________________ "You find me offensive? I find you offensive, for finding me offensive" |

I listen to Miller everyday. I only get to hear about 30mins everyday but I was planning on getting the last shows mp3s and listening to them. I just never get around to it.
It is a very funny show. And the voice guy Jim Ward? does go into somethings that are way out of the main stream, such as 9/11 being an inside job. In my opinion it is the funniest political talk raido on the aire and very informative.
I also listen to Ed Shcultz quite a bit. He is not too funny but his show is still good. Even if he won't bring himself to belive in "conspiracy" therories. |

so funny,I wish there were more of these types of radio programs on.I think that the comedy sometimes , helps some get the point that otherwise just wouldn't.

I'm sorry that I don't have time now to read this entire thread, so forgive me if im repeating anything that's been posted, but this is my take on Reid's shut down: it's way overdue, senate oversight that is. As others have said elsewhere, it's too little, too late. Tho the optimist side in me would like to remain positive, hopeful and say that this is a good start, the skeptic in me says that Dem or Repug, they're just 2 sides of the same corrupt coin.
As for the Repub spin, to be expected, lame, hysterical and self-serving as usual. Ditto for the dems. _________________ I despise mendacity! |

Et Al I agree. The Dems don't fool me anymore. But I also know, currently it is all we have. I mean I long for change, I am ready to wipe the slate clean.
But ranting about how both sides are evil, while true, may not be as helpfull. Until an outright revolution happens, I don't see how picking on some of the honest polititans(yes, I know), who are trying to make a difference is helpfull.
Yes Ried's comments are 2 years late. Yes I don't think much of anything is going to come out of the commission (Phase II). But all I can truely do is get behind the person who is saying and doing the things I want said and done. Even if it is 2 years late.. Better late then never I suppose. |
