I was watching the sky periodically today, and I am a little confused as to what I saw. I saw some planes flying overhead spewing a white trail, but the trail did not last long at all. I thought a normal contrail in sky wasn't very long, maybe a couple feet if you were looking from the ground up at one. These trails today spanned halfway across the sky but dissipated rapidly. And I thought a plane had to be way up there to create a contrail, but these wern't that far up (sorry for my generalization about altitute). I could tell they were a white plane, but I didn't have binoculars to look closer. I'm sure some of them were chem trails, but i'd like to know from someone who knows what the conditions for forming a real contrail is and how long they last. Its been a very moderate spray day here in Milwaukee so far. Started at about 10:30 am and had random trials off and on the whole day.

Hi Cougar, I hope one of the knowledgeable folks that have studied contrails will jump in with the info you need...as far as the chemtrails go though, been watching those and taking pictures of same for about 2 years now, and from my observations, I have seen some really peculiar events, the trails that become "droopy" thick and spread and last for an hour or more are the ones that cause pause for thought. The planes are often white but have observed other types as well. I have a web page you might like to snoop at that has some pics of planes and trails...really shows up the "anomalous" aspect to some of the planes and to the "trails". http://deepspace4.freeservers.com/pages/chemtrails/bossier/0501/bossier0305011.htm Blessings, Joanne

Cougar390, If you check out some of the data from my Trail Research Report you can see that contrails really do come in many sizes.
This diagram shows that most of the contrails (verified with Flight Explorer) I observed over Houston are between 6 and 10 seconds. However, I did see contrails that lasted 2 minutes, which would span halfway across the sky as you mentioned. Also a very few contrails that I saw lasted over 20 minutes, but this was relatively rare. I'm glad you asked this question, because there is a lot of misunderstanding about the persistence that contrails can have. For example, the following quote is a guestbook entry from a weather website. Someone was taking the website owners to task for what they called lies, when actually they were very mistaken about the behaviour of contrails. quote: http://www.weather-photography.com/Cloud_Atlas/contrails.html You have given a wrong definition of "contrails". Contrails are similar to the wake of a boat and always disappear within 15 seconds at the most as they tail from a plane. They are created by ice crystals crystallizing form water vapor in the air as the plane moves through the cold air at high altitudes. Contrails NEVER form "clouds", nor do they form smoke ring-like or broken plumes that are long lasting, as you wirte on this web page. The never form "mammatus" either. What you have in your photos under "contrails" are not contrails, but some kind of sprayed gaseous substance that that forms clouds with mammatus-like descent to the people below. This is SPRAYING, not contrails. As a scientist, or even a person with common sense and eyes, you should know better. Finally, it is physically impossible for contrails to cause a day to become "overcast", as you write. Again this is caused by spraying, similar to a crop duster. But then, I think you are probably fully aware of the falsehoods you are spreading. Please correct this contrail identification error. Steve
Well, fact of the matter is that Steve, although aware of Chemtrails, doesn't understand contrails. His statement that contrails always disappear within 15 seconds is silly. And his assertion that contrails can't form clouds is incorrect too. I've seen both things occur with my own eyes and verified with Flight Explorer that these trails were indeed contrails from normal passenger planes.
Interestingly, during my research I found that the most persistent trails, trails that lasted for hours and hours were always found to come from planes that could not be indentified on Flight Explorer. Since this happened over and over it is a good indication that these planes were military. These trails behaved very differently from the verified contrails produced on the same days. But please don't trust me, get Flight Explorer and find out for yourself. If you would like to see photos of some of these unidentified planes producing both normal contrails and these super persistent trails (known generally as a Chemtrail) check out this link... http://www.chemtrailcentral.com/unidentifiable.shtml
