for the record ~ if it is ever played
today in Smith River California
just a few jet spritzes at before dawn
and webmasses fell so hard the fencewire
was on overload
each wirestrand with several per inch
extending downwind across the road
took a few quickie photos
i don't know
agricultural machinery was crossed with webstrands all the while moveing
perhaps the most interesting was that
a major high voltage supply line to a large nursery blew at 909 AM in a volly of blue flame
webs hangeing everywhere around the place
"it was a puzzle why it blew"
people were talking about it with webs hanging off their cloths
streaming from their nose
it was damn spooky to be standing there with them as if everything was as it should be
everyone i talked to in town had webs streaming off of their bodies
but never seemed to notice
i am more creaped out than ever before

Uploading this info and pics on Mark Sky's behalf. All pictures taken using a QX3 microscope. "Angel Hair notes" October 14th major webfall, Oct 15th rain, Oct 16th extreme webfall in Smith River California (also power transformer blows that morning).
October 17th "angel hair" falls on south coast of Oregon as drifting in the breeze strands of multiple fibers grouped and clumped together. This particular one I caught on my finger was about 7 feet long.10x Web Clod 10-17-03

I'm glad you have a properly working scope now Mark! Red sure seems to be the popular fibril color.This is some of the angel hair that floated down from the sky Oct 17th at 60x, it has a red fiber in it. 11-05-03

The Daily News Published March 11, 2003 Webs visible in the sky in Galveston and parts of Brazoria counties for at least five hours Dec. 20 probably were produced by nothing creepier than a whole bunch of spiders. The Daily News hired S&N Labs of Santa Ana, Calif., which specializes is identifying small material samples, to analyze a wad of the floating web. The laboratory subjected the fibrous sample, which was about equal to what could be pulled from the tip of cotton swab, to examination under a microscope and to a process called Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. That process entails exposing an unidentified substance to infrared light and determining the wavelengths at which the substance absorbs the light. “The resulting spectrum shows the material to be protein,” wrote Neil Springarn, the lab’s director. “Based on this chemical analysis and microscopic examination, the material is most likely spider web.” On Dec. 20, the skies were literally filled with floating, shimmering strands and fuzzy, luminescent wads. People in La Marque, near San Luis Pass and in Pearland reported seeing the webs constantly between about noon and 5 p.m. Poles, trees and shrubs were left wrapped with the sticky stuff. An article published in the Dec. 21 edition of the Daily News was widely circulated on the World Wide Web and drew dozens of comments from readers around the world. Some said they thought the webs were fallout from a chemical plant leak, others were certain they were radar chaff used by military aircraft to avoid detection and enemy fire. A few said the phenomenon clearly was a migration of hatchling spiders. Most, though, said they thought the webs were connected to a conspiracy theory having to do with “chemtrails.” Adherents to theory say they believe the government is mixing unknown chemicals in jet fuel and spraying them, via jet engine exhaust, on unsuspecting people below.

Mark Sky just sent me these 3 pictures ~"Photo 10-16-03 mid afternoon Smith River California. Very High wind from SW blew 15 foot long strands off the Pacific ocean onshore. These were caught on a fencewire and car antenna." 10-16-03 Smith River, CA
 Also taken 10-16-03 Smith River, CA. 15'long webs blowing to the left captured on fence wire in the wind.
 Webstrands sticking together in ropes and clumps, these larger masses, composed of many small strands were seen dropping from the sky and floating around until caught by things like this fence wire. 10-16-04 Smith River, California.

Major Webstrands falling here today.
It is a rare warm sunny day without rain.
First thing this morning we went outside and got hit with a very strong industrial "detergent" type oder that was powerful enough to make us sneeze, and hard to breath. I traveled into the forest, and the smell was there also. The jets today are fairly high, and leaveing very thick off white cream colored trails that start right at the plane.
They "dissipate" several miles behind the plane. It looks more like "dissolve" into the air, rather than dissipate. Patches of it break off and slowly fade into the sky.
With binoculars, I could see the trails dropping, from below the plane, rather than appearing behind the planes. Like the stuff is falling from the belly of the plane, down 10 times the hight of the plane, before it stops failing anymore.
There are lots of single webstrands comeing down and landing on the earth today, the fields look covered by a light mat of them. They were also covering the forest 20 miles north of here.

It has been a few months since this topic was updated. Basically, here on the SW Oregon Coast every time it has stopped raining over the last few months, the webstrands start falling. They are not as many as in the past, but they are everywhere.
This last weekend I went down to Clear Lake California (near where David lives) to ride the bike trail system in the woods. On the way down there in Laytonville CA I saw a megasprayer turn on the juice just south of town about 230 PM on Saturday. It flew northward and left a pattern about 30% wider than the wingspan. I have seen this unique pattern in infrequent sprayers over the last few years. What appears to be 4 seperate trails begin right at the wing. 50 or so plane lenghts behind, the 4 streams join into two trail streams. These two streams will kind of sag, but stay intact for a distance of several miles behind the plane.
Then they break up into pieces that look like
=x===x=x===
I saw several more of these over Clear Lake over the weekend (when I was not riding the trails)This area is a real popular spot to trail ride and hundreds ride on the weekend from the campground, up the ridge trail into the trail system on the mountain top. The reason I say this is because the traffic would wipe out all the webs across the trails.
So everybody went home Sunday night, and I stayed for a quike ride Monday morning at daybreak, IE the first rider up the trail that had been "dewebed" the evening before.
What I saw just blew me away
The sun was coming up and I was heading into the sun on the main trail out of the camp.
Manzanita and other shrubs are on both sides of the trail. Strung across the trail were thousands of webstrands, glistening with dewdrops lit by the riseing sun. It was so intence that I lost my momentum and had to go back to the bottom of the trail and start up it again. I did about 20 miles up there and the strands were everywhere.
I am wondering if that type of sprayplane has something to do with the webs?

Very interesting story there about your recent web experience Mark. For the last couple of years where I live I've seen webs falling from the sky during this time of year.. I've been watching for them this year but so far I haven't seen the webs like before.. I can remember in the fall a couple years ago when I was walking out of a church school building, there were so many webs scattered on the ground and draped in the trees it was unbelievable...It was late afternoon and if you looked at the webs with just the right angle/slant of sunlight it looked like frost on the ground... They were extremely reflective in the light, they sparkled and there were literally hundreds of them lying all over.
