This article which is typed word for word from the US News & World Report. Page 65. Science & Technology.Climate. COOL YOUR JETS. The three day grounding of airline traffic after the september 11 attacks highlighted how the normally ubiquitous vapor trails from jets affect climate. One study presented last week at an American Meterological Society Conference used Satalite photos to track six military jet contrails as they spread within just a few hours into sheets of high cloud covering thousands of square miles. The effect would normally be hard to see, says the lead researcher, NASA's Patrick Minnis, because "the contrails all over lap each other" A second study showed that these spreading contrails limit temperature extremes, by both dimming sunlight and trapping heat near the ground. During the airline halt, the range between daily high and low temperature at more than 4000 weather stations was more than 1 degree Celsius wider than normal - Kenneth Terrell. Well here it is in black and white. A total propaganda piece.
The Kyoto agreement called for a reduction of global warming. To achieve one degree temperature change under the current Kyoto agreement would cost the US 100 Billion Dollars a year. However spraying the skies with chemicals results in the same reduction of temperature only costing One Billion Dollars a year. Thats like sticking a band aid on a melonoma. Contrails form a high cloud cover resulting in lower temperatures? Contrails they call them. They studied satalite photo's to track 6 Military Jets. If you ever wondered why the big cross shapes are left thats so they can track dispersement. The debunkers are hard at work.

That article was from the May 27, 2002 edition and it is another debunker piece alright. I just looked it up and they only had part of it posted. Good find Tonix.BTW, this Minnis character is really beginning to bug me.

It's really irritating how they slip little bits and pieces in the media to "explain" all the spraying as some normal phenomenon.

Yes it is irritating and I wonder how long it will take Minnis to become another Dr. J Allen Hynek.

I still bug some of Hynek's colleagues about that whole "swamp gas" incident before his career as a debunker came to an end.

I thought Canex is Minnis. Hmm. Crazy world of forums. You never know who you are talking to.

Thanks, Seeker. If Minnis were to follow in Hynek's footsteps, it looks like he would need to see hundreds of credible reports. He must not find any of the reports credible or his superiors have not told him to investigate the trails. Either way, given the nature of his reports, it does not appear likely that he will Hynekize anytime soon. He keeps explaining these things as contrails. But one can only hope.

Very fascinating indeed Deborah. For some reason Minnis does kind of remind me of Hynek. Good observation Krissa. I really do think things have a habit of repeating themselves. BTW canex, here's some more information about the famous swamp gas incident. The great Michigan UFO chase http://detnews.com/history/ufo/ufo.htm
The Dexter-Hillsdale Sighting quote: Hynek's 'swamp gas' explanation was met with ridicule, hostility, and increased suspicion that the government was engaged in a cover-up.
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/AndyPage/dexterhi.htm The 1960s: Swamp Gas and the Closing of Blue Book quote: The Michigan sightings provoked a national outcry; in short, the public wanted an explanation. Addressing the largest media gathering in the history of the Detroit Free Press Club, Project Blue Book spokesman J.Allen Hynek, an astronomer with Ohio State University, finally ventured an opinion. He said the sightings might be due to "swamp gas" -- methane gas from rotting vegetation that had somehow spontaneously ignited. The explanation didn't wash, and both Hynek and the Air Force found themselves the brunt of immediate and almost universal ridicule. Newspapers had a field day as cartoonists, columnists, and editorial writers nationwide lampooned the Air Force suggestion.
http://www.omnimag.com/archives/open_book/cosmic/1960s.html CLOSE ENCOUNTER WITH DR. J. ALLEN HYNEK quote: The famous "swamp gas" case which came later on finally pushed me over the edge. From that point on, I began to look at reports from a different angle, which was to say that some of them could be true UFOs.
