Funny thing. The white jet that made the older, thicker "contrail" in that last photo, "lost" it's trail and flew away...

large white jet flys up without contrail and then starts making small puffs shown here. At one point, only one side of the jet was making a contrail - one side had nothing. here it is flying off with no contrail:

a few minutes later this white jet flys by with no contrail although heavy contrails are beginning to line up in the distance:

yet another white jet flys by right after those other two, having no contrail at all. This one starts to have a contrail after a while though shown here at first start:

Usually when Roman or other Ohio posters say they have been hit, I get it here the next day or so. I watched the "nice looking cirrus clouds" as Canex would say come in with many white jets flying over. Funny how the air traffic increases when the nice looking cirrus clouds show up. here is one of them:

The turning on point always is a little broken up:

This one stops the "contrail" through this break in the, err, clouds. You think it is to hide it better?

I see this jet off in the distance and I snap a couple photos (put together here as one). I was waiting for the contrail to "change" into a giant spray as often seen but this one just goes over. Very hard to see these normal contrails from a distance:

Here's one for comparison. This one came from the same appx. location. This one spread out and is isn't going anywhere.

Check this out. This Air Force jet came in so low I could read the numbers on it's side. I could have waved to the pilots. I didn't get the numbers because I was pretty surprised. But it said Airforce and was gray with a black nose:

It then flew off in it's cloud of exhaust. Kind of coincidental to see on a heavy chem day huh?

By the way, how are you feeling today? Like sh-t? I am. Sorry to be so blunt. This cloyingly humid surface air is NOT what we are used to at this time of year in New England.

Pretty bizarre seeing chems all over and then that airforce jet fly by so low I could read the numbers on it's side...

It certainly didn't take long today, did it, for the sky to change from clear with a few incoming spreaders from the WNW to a complete WHITE-OUT, including sunring, scattered patches of full-spectrum iridescence and a thin layer of aerosol blanketing the entire region? Trailing ongoing as I write. A real mess, as I know you'll agree.

So, what's going on here? All these aircraft we're seeing - are their flight paths being modified in order to minimize contrail formation over that front that's approaching from the south?

The contrails, floating at altitudes of about 10 kilometers, lasted between 7 and 17 hours and expanded to enormous sizes by catalyzing the growth of a larger cloud with more ice. One cloud reached 35,000 square kilometers--the size of Indiana.

Lake Auburn has scores of jets flying over, would have been quite scenic otherwise. Mostly jets were in groups of 2 or more like here:

I took 70 or so photos out at the lake. Hmmm, what to show? Here is an interesting sequence. Three jets close together start changing direction:

Their contrails all were the same a distance back:

I won't show all of their paths but here's one:

Here is where the "contrail" went back to regular size:

that was not the only or the sharpest direction change over the lake either. On the way home another typical shot of 3 or 4 jets in a frame making more mess (hard to see here):

The sky down here was covered with a blanket of aerosol by between 2:00 and 3:00 this afternoon.

What direction were those planes in your photos coming from - and in what direction were they making that turn over the lake?

Here is one that did a pretty major U-turn and in the process grew a giant trail:

of course many jets flying through the same space didn't feel the need to make extra large "contrails":

This guy was also flying around in circles over head - lost? Funny how on chem days I see a lot of low flying airforce planes about:
