For the past two days everything I eat tastes incredible. I mean beyond normal. The best apples, the best mashed potatoes, the best glass of milk etc etc. Foods I've eaten a thousand times in the past...but the last two days I can't describe it. They're out of this world!! No, I'm not pregnant. I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed anything to do with their senses? (This is something I would normally keep to myself. But I have done that so many times in the past to discover that another person has had the same exact thing happen to them. So this time I thought I would bring it up.) Christy

My sense of smell is in overdrive. Which is interesting since I am extremely congested and have been for about 10 days. Just last week I couldn't smell a thing, but the last couple of days I seem to be able to smell every little thing. Now I'm in a cleaning frenzy because of it!

Dear Christy:I thought I knew exactly what the cause of your increased sensory acuity was -- until I read your sixth sentence. There have been studies -- done many years ago -- that correlate sensory acuity (touch, smell, taste, hearing, and sight) to the various stages in a woman's ovulation cycle. Why? I haven't a clue, but since there is often a change during pregnancy, I guess it makes sense. My bride's sensory acuity was up and down, up and down, and, six months ago, leveled out, to there it's always good. Correlation? Well, six months ago she had a hysterectomy and is now on a standard hormone dose. My sense of taste and smell increased substantially after I gave up smoking. Unfortunately, my waistline did, too. ------------------ Duncan Kunz / duncankunz@home.com Mesa AZ / 480-891-2525

You must be right about it being hormonal Duncan. I notice that today things are somewhat back to normal with the taste sensations. It was really wild. I really loved being able to taste like that. The only other time in my life where I could compare this unusual sensation, was when I ended a long fast...and even then, not as extreme. This experience was taste sensation only. I did not crave food, nor was I hungry. But at meal time the food was orgasmic (can I say that) I noticed I got full very quick and craved no more food although it tasted wonderful, I did not keep eating because of the wonderful sensation (which you think one would do) I know that hormones in males as well as female are still considered a mystery in medical science. There are hormones that form and unform so quick in the human body that scientist can't even study them long enough to know what they do...or to even name them. Whatever that was...hormone or whatever, that gave me those incredible taste sensations; Needs to be bottled and sold!!! Christy
