This mushroom walks into a bar, sees a drop-dead gorgeous girl, and goes over to her.

"Hiya sweetie!"
he says, "Fancy coming home with me?"

She gives him a look that would wither your average plant, and says
"I don't think so."
The 'shroom, looking hurt, says, "Aw, why not? I'm a fun guy!"

(fungi)Ha ha ha ha ha!

I'm new here and probably won't post much. I'm from Shreveport area and Delphi pretty much keeps you posted on what's going on here. Mushrooms, chemtrails, UFOs, wierd weather, etc. Lots of strangeness in the world these days. Enjoy reading your posts, Delphi. I'm your recent South Shreveport e-mail acquaintance. Keep up the good work. You're not really bailing are you?

Here's a great web site and Tom
may be able to help you identify
your "shrooms". He's a UWM grad -
maybe he went to school with 3T ?
Check out his listings of the Fungus
of the Month. It's really interesting.

Tom Volk's Fungi
Department of Biology
University of Wisconsin-La Crosse
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Greetings from Wisconsin!! I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, where I teach courses on General Mycology, Medical Mycology, Plant-Microbe Interactions, Latin and Greek for Scientists, as well as parts of Plant Biology. La Crosse is located in western Wisconsin on the Mississippi River in the beautiful driftless (unglaciated) area, between the river and spectacular 500-600 ft. bluffs. Here at La Crosse I am currently supervising one graduate student in Mycology right now (Sean Westmoreland from Appalachian State University in North Carolina), with three more just started this semester (Nik Zitomer from Penn State University, Josh Burgess from UW- La Crosse, and Shai White from Ohio Wesleyan University via UW- La Crosse), and I'd love to hear from you if you're interested in a Master's degree (M.S.) with an emphasis on fungi, especially basidiomycetes. I am likely to have some grant money to support another student. Our department is likely to have some graduate (teaching) assistantships available if you qualify. We also have great M.S. programs in Microbiology, Clinical Microbiology, Aquatic Sciences, Environmental Sciences, and several more. I'm Director of Graduate Studies for our department now, so write me at volk.thom@uwlax.edu if you would like more information. We also have some wonderful undergraduate programs, with small class sizes and with *real* Professors, not Teaching Assistants, teaching almost all of the lectures and labs.

NEW!! I've got my own domain! You can now get to this page using my new domain name http://www.wisc.edu/botany/fungi/volkmyco.html

That will bring you directly to this page. Be sure to tell all your friends! :-)

Lulu, sorry to disappoint you. Delphi and I are not one in the same. We always get mushrooms when the weather is damp and warm. Apparently Delphi had more than normal. I'm not seeing them so much now. TOO wet I guess. Scanner.

I,m back already, providing Thermit allows it...I wouldn't blame him if he sautade me in my mutant mushrooms and stuffed me with em!! Sorry guys, I went back on my Prozac. Some folks really do need to take the stuff, unfortunately. Anyway, I got lots of pics of my critters I'll be getting done soon and see if I can accurately scan over a few!++++Hi, my new friend from Shreveport...not my alter ego...really is a nice person I recently met through IZAKOVIC...imagine, 1,000s of miles away, and he refers me to a nice person local to my area...small world indeed. I'll be keepning ya'll informed on things as usual, if ya'll still wish to put up with me! Love and light and prayers and blessings, Joanne/Delphi ^j^

We knew you couldn't stay away from us long, Joanne!

I know from personal experience, Prozac is literally a lifesaver. Keep taking it as long as you have to. All it does is allow the serotonin (a nerve signaling chemical)which your body makes, to hang around a bit longer in the synapses (nerve-to-nerve connections). (For some reason both stress and getting older cause serotonin to be pulled out of the synapses too quickly.) Prozac has some unpleasant side effects, but as we both know, the side effects of having low levels of serotonin are even worse. (St. John's wort does the same thing, but when we're under severe stress, we can't take enough St. John's wort to counteract the problem.)

Hang in there, girl! We love you!

I definitely think that some people with chemical imbalances need to take prescription drugs! It just seems like there are so many unethical doctors overprescribing stuff, everybody's got to trust their gut feelings. (If that made sense )
Anyway, after experiencing some neuromuscular problems following a car accident a couple of years ago, a doctor suggested putting me on anti-depressants to increase my neurotransmitter activity. I was against the idea, and looked into other ways to achieve the same results. AMINO ACIDS. Turns out that when a person suffers a muscle or connective tissue injury, the body needs 4 times more protein to heal properly. I talked to my doctor about it, and he told me how much extra protein to take. The pain that I had been living with for a year subsided within a month. Other things that are good for your neurotransmitters are sunshine and sex! Chocolate doesn't hurt either.

Delphi, glad to see you back. I know about not taking the pills. I hate taking them but its better for everyone around me if I do! By the way, Willow and Scanner are one in the same. I wasn't sure how to use the same name on my home computer. I don't do forums as a rule so I'm not real savvy about them. Blue skies have been nice, but looks like we may get back to trails and rain this weekend. Glad you're feelin' better! You were the reason I signed on to this forum! Willow/Scanner

Willow/Scanner, please just use one ID. All you have to do is type in the ID and password, and you can post from either place. I know this is just because you weren't sure what to do, but when people start using multiple logins things get too confusing. Just pick one and go with it. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Scanner, I like that name...it sounds mysterious and intriguing and cool! Anyway, What ever name you decide on, it is great"seeing" you here and I hope you will post when you can...we can help each other "round-out" or "round-up" the anomalous "doins" in our area. I hope you can come out and nite skywatch at my place sometime, as the city lites aren't around to make glare, and the sky out here is really wild! We have 3 decks so anyone can sit where they prefer. I got another "ufo" on film this week and scanned it over to IZAKOVIC. Lots of stuff shows up around here! So glad you are here. Lots of nice folks here and one "nutty" kinda chick named Joanne/Delphi. Moody and goofey..watch out for that one! ^j^ Joanne Blessings and love, J.
