I've been thinking about webpage layouts, and I was curious about what resolutions surfers use. So I'm taking an informal poll.I like to use 1280x1024 because it is pretty high resolution and I can still read things easily. To check your resolution on a Windows machine: 1. Right click on the desktop. 2. Click on "Settings" and read the "Screen Area" section. (You can change it here too.)

I use 800x600. Tried going up but it is a strain on the old peepers.

I love technical questions like this Thermit. I use 1024 X 768...the highest I can go (IE 6.0, Windows 2000 Professional) The image clarity is amazing! Wish I could go as high as you. Any hint?

Thanks for the responses, it was enlightening. I've already made a few minor changes to some of the pages based on this information.Lulu, the resolution that you can run at is primarily limited by your video card. Takes more memory in the card to support the higher resolutions. I think monitors can be different in what resolution they support too, though. Check the specs to be sure...

1600x1200 at work (19" monitor), 1280x1024 at home (only a 17")...------------------ "If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything" Summer of My Discontent by Gargantua Soul

Actually, the max resolution is a function of both your card and monitor. Most 17" monitors can only support up to 1280x1024. 19"ers can go up to 1600x1200. 15" tops out at 1024x768. And if you're unlucky enough to have a 13 or 14"....methinks it's time to get a new one! Video card memory will affect mostly color depth at the higher resolutions. Less memory, you may be able to get the higher resolutions, but only at 256 colors (yuck!). Hope this helps..... ------------------ "If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything" Summer of My Discontent by Gargantua Soul

I knew you'd be able to set me straight, bshrdr. P.S. I know some people use the lower resolutions to make it easier on the eyes, but if this thread inspires anybody to raise their resolution, let us know...

No problemo Thermit..... It pays to be a geek at times, I guess..... Yeah, I can understand the lower resolutions & easier on the eyes...everyone that comes in my office here at work always asks "how the hell can you read anything?!" Heh....keeps prying eyes at bay.... ------------------ "If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything" Summer of My Discontent by Gargantua Soul
