BOB B posted this in the Science Forum. It's opinion, so I've moved it here, but it's definitely worthy of further discussion: quote: Scientific Theory(in laymans language) pinion based on facts concerning the field of science, but not yet proven.----Science is theories and opinions ,later proven and excepted as fact or discarded when disproven.Science is learning and the presentation of a theory is expression of an opinion, which are always at the leading edge of any scientific community.if people arent alowed to post theories in science forums, science has died here

The scientific method:1. Observe some aspect of the universe. 2. Invent a tentative description, called a hypothesis, that is consistent with what you have observed. 3. Use the hypothesis to make predictions. 4. Test those predictions by experiments or further observations. 5. Allow others to critique your work. 6. Modify the hypothesis in the light of the data. 7. Repeat the procedure until there are no discrepancies between theory and experiment and/or observation. When new information becomes available, it may become necessary to re-evaluate previously accepted theories. For instance, Newtonian physics was widely accepted as fact until relativistic phenomena were observed. Then Newtonian physics had to be reconsidered as a special case of relativity.

You will notice that "opinion" does not occur in this diagram:
