WILLIAM DONALDSON TO BE NEW SEC(Securities and exchange commitee) CHAIRMAN. William Donaldson, founding dean of Yale's School of Management and former member of Yale's Investment Committee, was named today to replace Harvey Pitt as SEC chairman. The Wall Street Journal/AP report:

Mr. Donaldson's first job on Wall Street was at the old brokerage G.H. Walker & Co., run by former President George H.W. Bush's uncle Herbert Walker. Mr. Donaldson was a classmate of the former president's brother, Jonathan, at Yale University and is friends with the Bush family.

William Donaldson served under HENRY KISSINGER as U.S. Undersecretary of State from 1973-1975. Some other interesting facts:

* William Donaldson was a member of Skull & Bones (class of 1953), as was his classmate Jonathan Bush, and as were both the former and current presidents Bush (cf. "Bush Crony Named Chairman of NYSE", The Financial Post, 8/10/90).
* Ted Shen, current Yale Corporation member, retired recently after a lifetime of service at DLJ, the firm Donaldson founded.
* Linda Mason, current Yale Corporation member, is chairman of the board of Bright Horizons Family Solutions, on whose board William Donaldson also serves.
