Where have all the Conservatives gone? While I am politically best described as an independent, having voted for among others such diverse people as Perot and Harry Browne,I value many typically "Conservative" ideals. The ideas of people like Republican Ron Paul and even some ideas of Pat Buchanan I can relate to. If the Republican party would ever move over to these ideals I would be happy to vote Republican, but with the so called "neo-cons" runnin the show I may for the first time in years vote Democrat.
The neo-cons Lust for power for the Exectutive Branch is scary at worst and ominous at best. How can Republicans that slammed Clinton for Big Gov, even sleep at night. I don't mean to be partisan at all, I just follow the Supposed Republican Doctrine of Small Government and this is NO small government. Our debt is 6.9 Trillion and soon to reach over 40 trillion.
Ashcroft from my own state used to be appreciated here, now many people see him as the Slayer of The Bill of Rights. I remember him Repeatedly slamming Clinton for abuse of The Constitution, now he has become what he despised.
What happened to 'conservative' Rush Limbaugh. How can he become the very thing that he despised? I don't in any way blame Rush for any addiction he may or may not have, I just blame him for Blaming others.
What happend to 'conservative' William Bennet the man who advocated being in control of ones 'desires'? Did he become what he despised? 8 Million dollars, would it be fair to say that that was probably an addiction? I don't in any way blame William for his addiction, I just blame him for blaming others.
What happened out in California. How could Republicans vote for for Arnold with alleged and some admitted sexual escapades, but slam Clinton for his sexual affairs? As an independent with strong Libertarian leanings, I have no problem with consenting adults ruling over sexual matters.
Perhaps it's the lies about sex Clinton was said to have told. But where are Republicans in the Congress when it comes to challenging the Bush Cheney lies that led up to this invasion of a non- attacking nation? Manipulating information for war. Which is more serious?
I would love to see the Republican party move away (and the Democratic party) back to a limited government, loving liberty, honoring the Bill of Rights, respecting state and local jurisdiction, lowering taxes, pursuing violent crime and put a stop to wasteful pursuing non-violent consenting "crime".
We should pick up the motto "As Much Freedom as We Can Stand".
That to me is a 'real' conservative.
