New Orleans Blue Jay Confirmed As West Nile Virus-Positive (edited)

A dead blue jay found in the Kenner area of New Orleans in Jefferson parish has been confirmed positive for West Nile virus. Both kidney and heart tissue were West Nile virus-positive by PCR. Initial tests were done by the LSU Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory and have been confirmed by CDC, Ft. Collins, CO. Updated information on arbovirus activity in Louisiana can be viewed at
