Information on the loss of the USS Thresher. There was another surface ship in the area and was in contact via sonar and hydrophone. I don't think that Col. Bearden is correct on this either. http://www.uoguelph.ca/~rspain/

Yep, Seek, ya' got me. 3T3L1 beat me up and I ran away, tail between legs! Bearden is right about encephaly and the Thresher. Don't know what I was thinking. That's it! I was thinking. I'll stop now, Seeker.Had already decided to leave. Posted by me July 19 at CDeb's: "They talk less and less about chemtrails at CC. I had no idea the board had gone that far afield. I think I need to reinstate my ban on posting. I can see that 3T3L1's science spot is dead calm as well. What a surprise. I can always say I only posted there again to answer Chem11's posts. You folks will let me get away with that, right? Besides it's really very awkward to read things in other areas and be unable to respond to them except by starting a new topic in the neutral zone. I feel like I am standing in a corner and waving and yelling "Hey, look over here wouldja?", which is something I would not usually do. It's frustrating not to be able to directly answer people. Second class citizen is what I am over there." So there! Nya! Nya! You have a nice life, Seeker.

Bizarre.Agreed, Chem 11. Actually, quite a bit of science is being discussed in the Neutral Zone, so whether or not the science forum is buzzing is irrelevant. Back to the topic at hand--here is some of the stuff from toxdoc's URL on the Thresher: quote: The probable cause of the Thresher disaster was a leak in the engine room's sea water piping system. . The pipes in this system were joined by silver brazing. The navy used two tests to test the quality of the sil-braze. The first test was the hydrostatic test. All the sil-braze joints passed this test. The second test was the ultrasonic test. This test is more accurate, but is expensive and time consuming. The inspectors used the ultrasonic test on only the easily accessable joints. The result of these actions were that 20 of the 145 joints tested by both tests, failed the ultrasonic but passed the hydrostatic test. This leads to the question how many of the joints that were only tested by the hydrostatic test would have failed the ultrasonic test? The result was that one of the joints failed. Water from the leak then sprayed into the engine room. The electrical equipment in the engine room was only built to withstand water dripping on in it not water spraying into it. This caused a malfunction that disabled the reactor and they were too deep to use the electrical propulsion motor. The loss of power also meant that they couldn't empty the ballast tanks because they were electric also, and had no other way of being emptied except emergency blowing. The blowing system is a high-pressure air piping system. The manufacturer of the system had put strainers on the blow valve to protect the reducing valves from particles. The process of blowing caused moisture to form on the strainers and turn to ice because of the rapid decrease in pressure. This ice clogged the valve and prevented the blow from emptying the ballast tanks. Therefore the ship continued to sink past the crush depth.
If you remember what S.N.A.F.U. stands for, this looks like a textbook example. In fact, the failure to check out all the joints in the piping system ahead of time sounds like the same "experts" who didn't think they needed to check out the Hubble Space Telescope before it was launched.

well bill now you gone and done it, you made me feel bad...listen...if the only reason you exist in these type forums is to talk about contrails..then I see your point, and wish you well, but I don't care to be secluded to one topic when there are so many other interesting things out there that can be discussed...one reason deb and I had a dissagreement was that dreded word (on-topic)...I also understand that's some of these threads jump to and fro, and it can seem difficult to be heard.....but hey it's unabated discussion...rampant (polite) anarchy if you will...I'm sorry if it does not fit for you, but bill your always welcome...and btw thanks for your input on the "origin of the gulf war photo"...
