They would come more often, but, her Palestinian husband George is rarely permitted by the IDF through the Bethlehem/Jerusalem check-point. Below is her account of yesterday as reported from 2 different news channels. I guarantee, you will never see this reported in the US mainstream media. immmathilda@yahoo.com 15 March 15, 2002 Day Seven I watched the Hebrew news in English last night and I heard all their pretty justifications for what they are doing. They're "withholding the full extent of their military power". They're "acting with restraint out of concern for minimizing civilian casualties". They're "disabling weapons factories". They're "dismantling the terrorist infrastructure". Their purpose is "to establish a cease-fire and return to negotiations". Their "highest priority is peace". All this must sound so pacifying to the ears of the West. So proper. So civilized. So sterile. So believable from a distance. And then we switched the channel and came back to reality, up close and oh, so personal. As the local cameramen made their way from house to house, street to street, and camp to camp, we watched in horrified numbness. No words could possibly describe what the camera was showing us. The young woman with the baby on her hip just shook her head, speechless, gesturing to the rubble of the home behind her with tears slipping down her cheeks. The old man gazed uncomprehendingly at what remained of his home, his face seeming to collapse in on itself. The old woman, standing amid splinters of furniture, tore at her headscarf shouting, "What can I say? What should I say?? What is there to say???" What can and must be said is that heavily armed Israeli soldiers, accompanied by tanks, bulldozers, and helicopters, entered the miserable homes of some of the most impoverished and wretched souls on the face of this earth and vandalized everything in sight. They broke furniture, slashed clothing and bedding, shattered dishes and tvs, stole what money and valuables they could find, and then knocked down the walls themselves, leaving nothing. Leaving people who were already refugees homeless once again. They entered shops and vandalized the merchandise. They entered sewing workshops and vandalized the sewing machines. They entered computer clubs and vandalized the computers. They entered printing shops and vandalized the typesetting equipment. They entered a small appliance repair shop and what was left was not even recognizable. Words are truly inadequate to describe the destruction. It must be seen to be believed, and it must be believed because it is the ugly reality behind the pretty words. Next we saw the hundreds of "captured terrorists", blindfolded, bound at the wrists, and squatting in the sun, being processed for arrest. Some wore only pajamas and slippers. Some were just a few years older than Mathilda. Some were the age of George. Some we even knew. I looked at their faces, my heart thudding, wondering how I would feel to see my husband among them. And for the 1000th time in 10 years, feeling thankful not to have sons. The cameraman wandered among the "shabab" (young men), asking them to describe their capture. "We were hiding in our bedroom, trying to keep the children calm. There was no shooting, no resistance. Just the sound of the tanks and bulldozers. People screaming and crying nearby. Suddenly the walls began to shake like an earthquake and our door fell in. Twenty or thirty soldiers came running in. Some surrounded us and some went to work smashing up the house with sledgehammers. They pointed to me and my brother and told us to put our hands up. I asked why. They told us we were "wanted". I said we hadn't done anything, we were only hiding from the tanks. They pointed their guns at our heads and said we had to go with them. When we left they were still tearing up the house. My mother and sisters and baby brother were hysterical. When we got here, we saw all of our neighbors, lined up and waiting to be arrested. None of us knows what will happen." Those factories that were vandalized were not manufacturing rockets. Those men that were arrested are not gun-toting activists. Those families whose houses were destroyed were not terrorists. At least not yet. When my eyes and ears had had enough, I turned away and went to attend to my children's calls. Nadine looked into my face and said, mom, are you crying? Yes, Nadine. Somebody has to.

PALESTINIAN DEATHS GO UNMOURNED

The Spokesman-Review wails on its March 28 front page about the "Passover massacre" of Jews. But what of the 200 Palestinians slaughtered between March 7 and March 16 by the Israeli Occupation Army? No memorable name has been given to that bloody massacre of Palestinians because, according to Jewish law, Jewish blood is worth more.

Rabbi Yitzhak Ginsburg, head of the Kever Yossev Yeshiva (school of Talmud) in Nablus stated, "The blood of the Jewish people is loved by the Lord; it is therefore redder and their life is preferable." This is the U.S. media's position too. NBC News described the Israeli army's mass murder in Ramallah and the other refugee camps from March 7-16 as "Israeli patrols."

The bloody massacre of Palestinians in early March has been forgotten, a mere two weeks after it ended! The blood of those Arab civilians murdered by Jewish soldiers is not "red enough" for the U.S. media. Only Jewish casualties are truly mourned and memorialized. This is Talmudic racism in action and it breeds rage.

Re: "Mideast talks falter as violence rages" (March 25 article in Spokesman Review)

Apartheid-style settlements, Apartheid-style roadblocks, Apartheid-style dehumanization, Apartheid-style tortures, Apartheid-style demonizations, Apartheid-style detentions, Apartheid-style ghettos--all backed up with American propaganda and weaponry--is what the American media and government are brainwashing readers and citizens to believe are not happening to the Palestinians.

No doubt it is only a matter of time before the children of those who allowed themselves to be brainwashed are called into action to shed their blood to further prop such an evil state. I just pray that when that time arrives, their innocent children won't be among the dead that are returned in body bags.

In reference to Garry Oliver's plea for support of Israel, I and many Americans are diametrically opposed to his obsequious and pitiful worship of this Zionist state. It is the 1832 cult of Dispensationalism that perceives Israel as doing no wrong and is beyond criticism and reproach. Why may Israel murder innocents with impunity? Why Israel can murder men, women and children and not suffer the anger of a righteous nation is beyond my comprehension. We have failed our Manifest Destiny.

We have a double standard, demanding justice in our own land, demanding justice for others, but we speak with a forked tongue when we approach the state of Israel and those in America that worship her. The United Nations has condemned the state and their barbaric treatment of a helpless and hapless people. We remain silent when Israel manufactures weapons of mass destruction. We remain silent when Israel shoots and murders teens and preteens, because criticism of this barbaric state is deemed anti-Semitic. We claim to be a righteous nation and a nation of laws, yet we turn a blind eye when Israel invades and atempts to commit genocide against the Arabs.

Peace will only come to the Middle East when the West, in no uncertain terms, tells Israel, "You have gone far enough."

If Oliver has taken the moniker of being Jewish, that is his business, but I choose to remain an American, and I look at the world with eyes of justice. Israel is as wrong as Judas, and so is Oliver.

Headlines in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict seem to be biased in favor of Israel and shamefully off-base. Americans need to carefully follow the news to understand the sinister nature of the Israeli occupation.

The Israeli army has perpetuated violence for many years with dominance, arrogance, intimidation and death. Palestinian citizens have lived in an occupied and brutal environment that has only gotten worse. Is it so shocking that Palestinian children that were raised in this hateful environment are now filled with hate?

Martin Merzer (Spokesman-Review, April 2, back page) describes Jewish men chanting, "Jews, Jews, Jews to war. Arabs are the sons of whores." He describes Israeli solders pointing automatic weapons at Palestinian youth walking nearby, and an Israeli soldier repeatedly punching an Arab man in the back as the man stood in a submissive position with the front of his body pressed against a wall. Many innocent Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli army. Why is Palestinian suffering and death back-page news?

The Israeli government has been waging a war against Palestinian citizens for many years. When I visited there 10 years ago I observed a fully armed Israeli miliary patrolling the streets using brutal force to intimidate Palestinian men, women and children. Now Palestinian suicide bombers are front-page news because they are responding to the violence with violence. Israel's government is demanding an end to the violence. They should practice what they preach.

Regarding the article, "Israeli soldiers defy their battle orders" (Feb. 2): When dissenting reservists declare their refusal to "fight beyond the Green Line with the aim of dominating, expelling, starving and humiliating an entire people," it's time the United States took notice.

For anyone who is still wondering why so many millions of people hate us and consider us the great Satan, it's not because we eat cheeseburgers, drive SUVs and live in a democracy. It's because of our government's foreign policies.

Though President Bush recently referred to Israel's Prime Minister Ariel Sharon as his "friend," many Israelis have joined the majority of the free world in condemning Sharon's oppressive regime.

Israel's crimes against the Palestinians don't infuriate just the Arab world, but Israelis too. What if we Americans stood up and refused to let our government support Israel's terror? It could create freedom and democracy for the Palestinians and a few million fewer enemies for the United States.
