The 2002 U.S. Big Brother Awards kicked off late last week, and Oracle's CEO Larry Ellison was among the recipients. The Big Brother awards are named after the oppressive government in George Orwell's book 1984. The award consists of a bronze statue of a head being trampled by a boot (as pictured to the right). In addition to the Big Brother awards, three Brandeis Awards are also given to champions of privacy. The Brandeis award is named after U.S. Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis, who championed privacy, describing it as "the right to be left alone."

Just saw a new commercial for Nissan Altima...just so much more conditioning.The entire commercial consisted of a car coming to an interstection being filmed by the "oh it's all normal everyday stuff now" camera at the stop light. The camera starts zooming in then follows the car through the intersection. Then some slogan about "Caution can cause infatuation". Shot in grainy very dark cloak and dagger type of style. Reminds me of another super "dark" gray commercial for Datrek trading. How depressing.
