Thank you for posting this piece, Ellyn. The writer is absolutely correct: .....If sufficient numbers of people do not begin now to object to universal demands for submission of state-issued IDs ****as a condition for services****, there will soon come a time when all activity will necessitate possession of some form of chip-imbedded ID, and there will be no viable opportunity for objection.....
Supposedly, and by law, it is wrong to make submission of one's Social Security number a requirement in order to obtain basic services or to do routine business such as banking or purchasing goods, or, in some states, to obtain a driver's license.
Yet this *requirement*, supposedly illegal, is very common, especially in urban areas. Service is simply refused unless one produces the number. Interesting that one can't even GET an "official" Photo ID without submission of one's Social Security number. The trajectory is rapidly moving toward continuous tracking of every individual in this country - that is very obvious at this point. They can lie about it all they want. It doesn't change the truth of it.

Did anyone happen to watch CBS Evening News with Dan Rather today (Wed., May 15)? Several Americans were visited by the government representatives such as the FBI for things like the following:1) A man at a health club said he was against the war in Afghanistan. 2) A woman had a poster inside her residence questioning whether people should trust their government. 3) A Jewish woman in San Francisco openly questioned Israel's tactics. There were about two other interviews besides these with people who were visited for equally innane reasons. Tomorrow this subject will be continued on CBS News.

Here is the update of the CBS Evening News segment on everyday citizens getting visits from the Secret Service, FBI, etc.The North Carolina student was interviewed. Someone had told the Secret Service that she had dangerous posters in her apartment, so they investigated. One poster showed all the hangings Bush had OKed in Texas while he was governor. An American of Indian descent was interviewed by the FBI because he was selling bumper stickers on the Internet. One on the bumper stickers said: "Darn the Government."

Today I had clicks on my phone while I was talking with friends. I then had a call from National Republicans wanting to send me information on a donation. I told them not to bother for I do not support the President and policies and would not vote for him in an election. I should have told her that I did not vote for him in the last election and have not changed my mind. We all must oppose this identification for services. We are suppose to be living in freedom, but each day those freedoms are taken away from us. When people ask for you zip code, telephone number, address when you buy something at the store, I refuse them saying that it is personal information I do not give you. CA only allows stores to look at your driver's license for ID at this point in time, but who knows where our government is taking all this.
