I wondered what happened to that guy I voted for!
http://etherzone.com/2002/rsmit060702.shtml

This article would be funny except for the fact I've been wondering what's going on with George since 9/11. When he was campaigning he was a refreshing, non-articulate, conservative alternative to the craziness of the previous administration. He was still pretty much that way after he was elected. 9/11 happens and some stranger takes over the president's body. All of a sudden he's articulate, he's decisive, and he's swung way to the left. Sure makes you wonder.....

I still have, in my mind, the picture of him standing behind his ranch gate with Powell on one side and Cheney on the other, both wearing cowboy hats. I believe the news media called it "two hats and a shrub".

His expression was on the order of, 'you mean they really elected me, honest injun?'

Scanner, I have mixed feelings about Bush. Although I didn't vote for him, i have to admit that the attacks brought out a person I'm glad to see: decisive, good instincts, the ability to rally Americans behind him, etc.

But I think that, by imposing a blatantly political tariff on steel and then by almost doubling farm subsidies, he has betrayed the very conservative philosophies that made him so attractive to the people who voted for him -- and me -- in the first place.

And I'm not at all thrilled with his pseudo-conservative Ashcroft, who imposes security while stealing liberties. I still have hopes for the boy, though. I think the events of the past eight or nine months have convinced most reasonable Americans that he wasn't near as dumb as he sounded.

Regards,

Duncan,

Your reply brings up an interesting point. Was GWB putting on an act before he was elected... maybe in order to get elected? He's sure not the same guy I voted for. I'm not sure what I think anymore. I'm not real thrilled with Ashcroft either.

By the way, what's become of Colin Powell? Looks like it's Rummy's turn in the spotlight now.
