'She Thought Maybe We Were Under Attack'September 16, 2002 By Joe Furia SEATTLE - It was supposed to be an exciting part of the big show. Instead, it turned out to be a scary show for many in the Seattle area. The KOMO switchboard was flooded with calls Sunday afternoon from people worried about two military planes streaking very low across Seattle. Some even called to say they were sure the country was under attack. There was no attack. The Seahawks opened their brand new stadium Sunday and the jets were simply part of the celebration. Pat Carney shot some home video of the two Navy jets from his porch in Renton. As the planes thundered over his neighborhood he said it rattled his windows, and his family's nerves. Especially his wife. "She came in from the shower quite disturbed," Carney said. "She thought maybe we were under attack. She didn't know exactly what was going on." Two Navy radar-jamming jets, EA6B Prowlers from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island were brought across the sound to perform a flyover as part of Seahawks Stadium opening celebration. The flyover delighted the crowd at the game, but many people in nearby neighborhoods had no idea the planes were coming. There were dozens of frantic calls into the KOMO newsroom from people trying to find out what was going on. In fairness, the Seahawks did send out a note in a press release about the flyover but it didn't receive a great deal of publicity. And in light of the country just being put on high alert for terrorism and the mood only four days after the September 11 anniversary, the jets definitely scared some folks. "This was definitely a surprise," said Carney. "Yea, if he would have had some kind of forewarning or an emergency notification these guys were gonna fly through it would have been no problem, but I think a lot of the neighbors got a little shaken up."

The crowds cheered on Sunday at the opening celebration of the game? So why were they still here yesterday flying low over Seattle? And why is everyone I know getting sick this week?

It just goes to show you how Corporte sports plays a role in this society...to the point where the MILITARY endorses it.Kind of like the GLADIATOR shows in ROME many centuries back.. i'm sure there are plenty of LUXURY BOXES so the the lords won't have to mix with the peasants. MECH

We're sick too Nirvana. My kid has flu like symptoms and a really strange rash that broke out last Wednesday. Her friend whom she has not played with for 2 1/2 weeks broke out in the same rash. Thought it was chicken pox at first but it is not. Her doctor diagnosed it as SOME KIND OF VIRUS. The rest of the family has flu symptoms, sore throats & severe respiratory infections. Hey Nirvana, a few of us from this board and around the Seattle area are thinking about meeting for coffee or something...care to join us? We would love to meet you...you know my email address.
