Rusty's 'Angel Hair' Lab Report
Analysis of 'Angel Hair' Deposited in Burlington, West Virginia
(September 19, 2000)
On September 21, 2000, Retha Rutherford (aka 'Rusty') found a
white material in patches around her yard. Rusty collected
samples, took pictures of the material and sent the samples and
photographs to Frontier Analysis, Ltd. for analysis.
Rusty posted the story of her discovery and photographs of the
white material found in her yard on her web site indicating the
white material did not look like spider webs and may be
connected to the "droning" sound she heard the night before. On
E-mail lists Rusty indicated her belief that the white material
may be related to what she believed to be "chemtrail spraying".
Rusty very kindly offered to send a copy of the lab report to
anyone who requested a copy, which I did. Rusty promptly sent me
a copy of the lab report (free of charge). Rusty further posted
the lab report on her web site but removed it soon afterwards.
On E-lists, Rusty later admitted the report indicated the white
material she found in her yard was similar to silk made by
insects and caterpillars but only quoted those sections of the
report which made her discovery seem more mysterious.
Rusty's claims were reported in UFO Roundup (Vol. 5, No. 39,
Sept. 28, 2000), Filer's Files #39 (Oct. 5, 2000), on the Jeff
Rense web site (where I commented that the material resembled
silk created by tent caterpillars which Rusty emphatically
denied), was discussed on Strange Days Program #100, appeared on
various E-mail lists and Rusty's original story remains posted
on her web site unaltered to this day. The discovery of this
material, still labeled as "angel hair", remains posted all over
the internet minus the lab results that indicated the material
appeared to be silk from an insect rather than "angel hair".
To balance the information available about the materials found
in Rusty's yard, I have scanned the lab report performed by
Frontier Analysis. Ltd. and placed it in the Vanguard Archives
(part of Vanguard Research) at:
http://vanguardarchives.home.attbi.com/
On page 3 of the lab report, P. A. Budinger, who lists a title
of "Analytical Scientist", states, "The fibrous material
compares to that from "angel hair" falls in Los Gatos,
California (October 19-20, 1977)2, Sacramento, California
(November 11, 1999)3, and Burns, Oregon (November 4, 1999)4
which were also analyzed by this laboratory." Researchers
studying "angel hair" reports might want to include this
information in reference to "angel hair" falls that may have
been reported in those areas on those dates and locate the
analysis reports performed by Frontier Analysis, Ltd. for a more
accurate evaluation of said materials and claims. The report
also includes an interesting comparison of the analysis of these
four "angel hair" drops.
Thanks to Rusty and Frontier Analysis, Ltd. for making this report
available.
