This was emailed to me by a friend. Copying it here with his permission for all's benefit. Real life evidence of our police state._____________________________________ The Soviet Union and other totalitarian countries registered typewriters, radios, and other information technology. Now it is going to happen in this country with computers if politicians (chiefly Fritz Hollings who is so keen on selling us out) have their way. I've been debating whether to send this to the list, but think I have to. Most of you have never heard of "Palladium" which is a relatively new computing initiative between Microsoft and Intel (mostly). It is technically the PC version of the Trusted Computing Platform Alliance (TCPA). Essentially, this will mean that the PC world (which you are now using) will be split into "pre-ban" and "post-ban" computers, much like we have now with firearms. The idea here is that you won't be able to run any software which is not approved by the manufacturer, or government, on your PC. It will be effectively impossible unless you have the resources of a major government (this is my estimate but others also agree). Of course, the problem is that, unlike a firearm, a "pre-ban" computer is soon worthless. Ross Anderson, who wrote the FAQ at http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~rja14/tcpa-faq.html is one of the top researchers in my field (information systems security). You should read this, it isn't too technical. It is extremely important to realize that "trusted" in my field does not mean what it does in YOUR field (any other field!). It means that the software, computer, etc., is trusted to violate whatever security policy is in effect. This is counter-intuitive at first, but makes sense to us for reasons that would likely bore you to death. So when you read "trusted" think "untrusted." This is DEFINITELY something that a police state would love. Especially since this architecture will, inside of a decade, be in EVERYTHING that has electronics (even your electronic watch, you microwave, etc.). Bottom line: the police state and corporations will have total access to your computer, your files, and be able to control what you do and how you do it. It's that simple. They can delete your files if they want, stop programs from running or delete them, censor things, keep tabs on your computer and what you do, etc. You give TOTAL control of your systems to Big Sister. Don't get me wrong. This is a really good idea for the military and intelligence communities, and some other organizations, and people in prisons. But not for the rest of a free society. --Steve

Here's a little snippet from the FAQ's page on Palladium_____________________________________ 11. How can TCPA be abused? One of the worries is censorship. TCPA was designed from the start to support the centralised revocation of pirate bits. Pirate software will be spotted and disabled by Fritz when you try to load it, but what about pirated songs or videos? And how could you transfer a song or video that you own from one PC to another, unless you can revoke it on the first machine? The proposed solution is that an application enabled for TCPA, such as a media player or word processor, will have its security policy administered remotely by a server, which will maintain a hot list of bad files. This will be downloaded from time to time and used to screen all files that the application opens. Files can be revoked by content, by the serial number of the application that created them, and by a number of other criteria. The proposed use for this is that if everyone in China uses the same copy of Office, you do not just stop this copy running on any machine that is TCPA-compliant; that would just motivate the Chinese to use normal PCs instead of TCPA PCs in order to escape revocation. So you also cause every TCPA-compliant PC in the world to refuse to read files that have been created using this pirate program. This is bad enough, but the potential for abuse extends far beyond commercial bullying and economic warfare into political censorship. I expect that it will proceed a step at a time. First, some well-intentioned police force will get an order against a pornographic picture of a child, or a manual on how to sabotage railroad signals. All TCPA-compliant PCs will delete, or perhaps report, these bad documents. Then a litigant in a libel or copyright case will get a civil court order against an offending document; perhaps the Scientologists will seek to blacklist the famous Fishman Affidavit. http://www.xs4all.nl/~kspaink/fishman/home.html Once lawyers and government censors realise the potential, the trickle will become a flood. Now the modern age only started when Gutenberg invented movable type printing in Europe, which enabled information to be preserved and disseminated even if princes and bishops wanted to ban it. For example, when Wycliffe translated the Bible into English in 1380-1, the Lollard movement he started was suppressed easily; but when Tyndale translated the New Testament in 1524-5, he was able to print over 50,000 copies before they caught him and burned him at the stake. The old order in Europe collapsed, and the modern age began. Societies that tried to control information became uncompetitive, and with the collapse of the Soviet Union it seemed that democratic liberal capitalism had won. But now, TCPA and Palladium have placed at risk the priceless inheritance that Gutenberg left us. Electronic books, once published, will be vulnerable; the courts can order them to be unpublished and the TCPA infrastructure will do the dirty work. So after the Soviet Union's attempts to register and control all typewriters and fax machines, TCPA attempts to register and control all computers. The implications for liberty, democracy and justice are worrying.

Homeland Security is VERY interested in TCPA/Palladium. I work smack dab in the middle of this project, but we use all Macs and Linux in theMultimedia Dept. Any honest liberal or conservative should not put up with this. Intel and AMD will just make the hardware that Microsoft needs to implement. I know a lot of Windows people that are thinking more of Mac OSX and Linux because of this blatant "Big Brother" push. You see, Gates was always more of the alcoholic/coke head. Steve Jobs was more of the Pot Head/Tripper. IT ALL COMES OUT IN THE WASH.

I'm running 10.2.3 Jaguar both at work and at home on 10 different machines. The compatibility between Classic and X isn't as much an issue for me. We have one machine running just 9.2.2 apps that haven't or won't upgrade to 10 (Quarkxpress, logomotion, ProTools, etc). The others have partitioned boot drives. One with OSX only, the other with 9.2.2 only. If you want to have both OS's on one partition, go to system preferences under system OSX. Start the Classic first. With Classic running in the background, start an OS9 app. It runs much smoother than trying to just double-click an app, an hoping OSX will pick it up as a Classic app. The only disadvantage to the split partition is if there's an unruly OS9 app, you can always force quit Classic in OSX, leaving everything Kosher. Mech, What Mac are you using? I even have a 1987 Mac2 running a Nubus powered Digidesign 24 bit audio card, with no signs of running down. I'm even thinking of putting a G4 card in an old 7300, just to run OSX on.

Questioning minors without a parent or attourney present. Removing children from their parents custody without the benefit of a jury trial. Sounds like CPS and SCF are "above the law". Granted some of this applies specifically to Oregon, but it is only a matter of time until the federal government makes it their business. The whole county could end up like the state of Florida.

THE KING HAS NO CLOTHES: BUT SAYING SO MIGHT LAND YOU IN PRISONBy: Paul Joseph Watson The hallmark of an effective dictatorship, whether that be Stalinist Russia or Hitler’s Germany, is the wholesale silencing of the opposing voice. Criticism of the government must be eliminated because the foundation of despots crumbles when their authority is questioned in a sober and educated manner. For those of us who don’t live in countries like China or Zimbabwe, a benchmark of how healthy our freedoms are is to judge how our government reacts to criticism. We should therefore be alarmed that a growing pretext is being set whereby it is either illegal or an act of political suicide to criticize President Bush. Prior to September 11, jokes about George W. Bush’s questionable intelligence were the highlight of any given evening at the comedy club. Bush’s own words provided enough material to build on. Consider the following, "I've coined new words, like, misunderstanding and Hispanically."-Radio-Television Correspondents Association dinner, Washington, D.C., March 29, 2001 "You teach a child to read, and he or her will be able to pass a literacy test.''-Townsend, Tenn., Feb. 21, 2001 "Rarely is the question asked: is our children learning." - Florence, SC, Jan. 11, 2000 "I think anybody who doesn't think I'm smart enough to handle the job is underestimating."-U.S. News & World Report, April 3, 2000 Since the terrorist attacks, any questioning of Bush’s mental capacity is viewed as subversive activity. If you’re a politician, you must resign immediately. If you’re a member of the public, you may be subject to an FBI investigation. In September of 2002, German Justice Minister Herta Daeubler-Gmelin suggested that Bush’s foreign policy was planned to distract from his domestic problems, a tactic used by Hitler. The media hijacked the comments and concocted headlines like ‘German Minister says Bush is new Hitler’. White House spokesman Ari Fleischer, eager to childishly avenge German non-cooperation in the war with Iraq, responded by labelling the comments as "outrageous and inexplicable." Despite a public apology, Daeubler-Gmelin was subsequently forced to resign from office. As an aside, in a decidedly unsophisticated propaganda crusade, the Bush administration has compared Saddam Hussein to Hitler. Hitler’s projected 1,000-year Reich was to be built by invading countries and setting up a pan-European empire. Ask yourself, how many countries has Bush threatened to invade compared to Saddam Hussein? Just a month after Daeubler-Gmelin resigned, Francoise Ducros, a top aide to Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien, referred to President Bush as "a moron" at the NATO summit in Prague. The comment was made to a radio reporter and instantly became front-page news. In stark contrast with their reaction to Daeubler-Gmelin, the White House trotted out Flesicher to dismiss the comment as "something from someone who doesn't speak for the Canadian government.'' They wanted to keep Canada sweet because at that stage their unbridled support for a war on Iraq was on the verge of being secured. Ducros apologized but was forced to resign shortly after. Just a day after Ducros quit, the British satirical cartoon show, 2DTV, were informed by the Broadcast Advertising Clearance Centre (BACC) that an ad for their Christmas video had been banned. The commercial featured a cackling Bush mistakenly putting the videotape in a toaster instead of a video player. The BACC ruled that the ad was offensive to Bush’s intelligence. This, despite the fact that the programme itself ‘offends’ Bush’s intelligence on a weekly basis. 2DTV produced a milder second version of the ad but this too was banned because it portrayed the President in a negative light. The realization that the man supposedly leading the free world in a war against global terrorism was in fact quite stupid is just too hot to handle. The consequences of criticizing Bush were fully understood by these politicians and companies. However, at least they have a media platform on which to defend themselves. This saga takes on a more sinister tone when individuals are persecuted for daring to stand up to Bush. A protest group called ‘Turn Your Back on Bush’ experienced the full force of the new post-9/11 dictatorship after they discovered the President was to fulfil a speaking engagement at Ohio State University on June 14 2002. Lost in the muddy nostalgia of a pre-9/11 America, where groups had at least some rights to assemble, the protestors thought they could rekindle the days where a Bush appearance went hand in glove with a chorus of boos from a sizeable minority. Not so, Richard Hollingsworth, Associate Vice President of Student Affairs, warned the group that he was aware of their plans and that any protest would entail ejections and arrests being made. He also threatened undergraduates that their diploma would be stripped if they were to do so much as make a sound. This had a massive chilling effect and only a handful of students and others actually did turn their back on Bush at the ceremony. One was ejected by police and his arrest was probably only avoided because he was carrying a three-year-old child. This enabled the Washington Post to state, "If there was a protest in the stadium, it was not visible to reporters." The Post could then concentrate on the sycophantic response of the audience to Bush’s every sentence with glee. Richard Humphreys, a resident of Portland Oregon, was sentenced to three years in jail after he made a joke about President Bush during Bush’s March 2001 trip to Sioux Falls. The joke included the line "I said God might speak to the world through a burning Bush," which was taken as meaning Humphreys wanted to douse Bush in flammable liquid and set him ablaze. A bartender overheard and immediately alerted the police to the activities of this dangerous terrorist. The actual arrest was obviously made before September 11 but the way that event changed the mindset of the American authorities no doubt contributed to the ridiculous three year prison term, which was handed out in June 2002. This story was originally reported by CNN, who mysteriously chose to remove the article from their website just a few weeks after its appearance. If you think that was an overreaction, just consider the case of a student at Bellbrook High School in Ohio. The unnamed teenager chose to wear a T-shirt with the words "not my president" superimposed over a picture of President Bush. When a crosshair was added to the design, two students came forward and complained to the school administrators. The Assistant Principal then made the decision to call the FBI because the high school kid could have been a terrorist planning to assassinate Bush. What’s even more absurd is that the FBI actually treated the case with the utmost significance and the investigation was eventually turned over to the Secret Service! These are the real threats to America - not wide-open borders or Muslim fanatics - but high school children with political T-shirts. The authorities seem really keen on protecting us from terrorism, don’t they? In a gut-wrenching climax to the story, the two kids who snitched on the teenage terrorist were praised as heroes. The Assistant Principal said they had complied with the demand of the government - that citizens stand together with homeland security and keep an eye out for potential terrorist activity, for this, he was proud of them. The liberties of Americans, as enshrined in the Constitution and Bill of Rights, were erected on the foundation of logic that the citizenry has to watch its government like a hawk. Any government that is allowed to roam freely without checks and balances becomes tyrannical. History has proven this over and over again. In the new America, the government watches the citizens and in turn the citizens are told to watch each other. Criticism of the government is outlawed and anyone that does so is either ridiculed or thrown in jail. If America is to be rescued from being the home base of a global fascist empire, we need put our foot down. We need to criticize the government more than ever. Then again, I might just be a terrorist and you should really call the FBI for the good of the Fatherland. Louisiana police demand DNA from white drivers By Hugh Aynesworth THE WASHINGTON TIMES
BATON ROUGE, La. — Police here are so intent on catching a suspect in the slayings of four women that they have resorted to pulling over white General Motors pickup trucks and asking the drivers to submit to DNA tests. Top Stories • Inspectors want more time • Bush set to break silence in race case • U.S. hits Libya's ascension to U.N. post • Defense disputes racial imparity • GOP veterans rap secrecy on defense issues • Pete Townshend arrested on child-porn suspicions
Such investigative methods have provoked protests from civil libertarians. "These people were branded guilty until proven innocent," said Joe Cook, longtime director of the Louisiana American Civil Liberties Union. Police have matched the killer's DNA with four slayings here and in Lafayette, about 50 miles to the west, since September of 2001. In two of the crimes, a white, single-cab GM-built pickup truck was seen close to the site of the killing near the time of the death. Some people recalled seeing a fish painted on the cab; others remember a partial license plate number that included the letters J and T and the numbers 3, 4 and 1. An areawide task force has checked out more than 9,000 leads, officers here say. But police still don't have a suspect in the four killings that have created terror in the region in recent months. But as officers continue to go door to door running down tips, investigators began stopping white pickups and, in some instances, asking drivers to submit to DNA tests. Most complied, but some who balked were publicly embarrassed. "What would these people have to lose — if indeed they weren't guilty?" asked one Baton Rouge police official on the condition of anonymity. "Hey, we're all in this together." Mr. Cook of the ACLU said that in this manhunt the only "probable cause" to choose someone to be examined for DNA seemed to be that he was driving a white pickup truck or that some anonymous tipster had phoned in his name. He said that was "not credible evidence enough to target anyone." Figures were not available yesterday on how many men had been tested, but in Baton Rouge the number passed 850 just after New Year's Day. In Lafayette, Sheriff Mike Neustrom said last week that officials planned to test at least 100 men. "It's been proven time and time again that this type of targeting is bad police procedure," Mr. Cook said. Though many men volunteered to be tested, some seemed to be coerced, he added. An Associated Press story last week last, Shannon Kohler, a 44-year-old Baton Rouge welder, refused to take a DNA test at first but then was served with a warrant forcing him to submit. The warrant was based on a 20-year-old burglary conviction for which Mr. Kohler had received a pardon. Police said two tipsters also mentioned Mr. Kohler's name and that he had once worked near where a cell phone belonging to the killer's first known victim had been discovered. "It was either submit or get arrested," Mr. Kohler said, adding, "They could have eliminated me as a suspect in other ways." The first death attributed to this serial killer was Gina Wilson Green, 41, who was found strangled in her Baton Rouge home Sept. 24, 2001. Charlotte Murray Pace, 22, was found fatally stabbed in her home May 31, 2002. Next was Pam Kinamore, 41, abducted from her home July 12. Her body was found, with her throat slit, about 30 miles west of Baton Rouge toward Lafayette. The most recent was Trineisha Dene Colomb, 23, of Lafayette, who was reported missing Nov. 22. Her body was found two days later about 20 miles away. She had been killed by blunt trauma to the head. As with the Kinamore case, a witness reported seeing a white truck near where Miss Colomb's car had been abandoned. Police have encountered many false leads and even a copycat killer in a parish just west of here. On New Year's Eve, police said, Theodore LaFontaine, 40, bludgeoned his girlfriend, Jo Ann Zachery, 40, to death after an argument. He got his niece, Katina LaFontaine, to help him clean up. Together, they dropped the body into a drainage ditch and covered it with leaves, police said. Then they drove about six miles to a spot near where Miss Colomb's body had been found and left the victim's personal items in her vehicle, police said. Mr. LaFontaine then called police to report his girlfriend's disappearance and gave an alibi — which has been challenged. He said he had been to a local gambling establishment, but surveillance tapes showed every entrant, and he wasn't among them, police said. He is not suspected in the serial killings. "They can relax," said Opelousas Police Chief Larry Caillier, referring to the families of the victims in the serial killings. "This is not connected with theirs."

Interesting article on FEMA's hidden powers and the underground facilities located all over the country for the elite bastards. http://www.prisonplanet.com/analysis_patterson_011403_disaster.html When Disaster Strikes: Save the Rich, Feed on the American Citizens
By Cliff Patterson About an hour west of Washington D.C. in the mountains of Virginia lies the underground government facility known as Mount Weather. This is one of many places set up for government officials to “relocate” to during a “national emergency”. According to at least two reports; Secret Service Takes Leaders to Secure Location as Government Responds to Attacks, by Laura Meckler A.P. September 11, 2001 and Things That Go Bump in the Night at Cheney’s Cave, by Paul Bedard, White House Weekly December 4, 2001, this is where Vice President Cheney and House Speaker Dennis Hastert were rushed off to after the September 11th attacks as were several other top members of Congress. Most of us have at least a little knowledge about these “secret” places, but this one, unlike it’s 96 or so counterparts, is the FEMA command and control center designed to protect the most elite individuals. It also houses an alternate government-in-waiting for the specific purpose of guaranteeing continuity of government. Mount Weather has been described as a self-sustaining, underground city complete with it’s own mass transit/subway system, apartments for the President and other high ranking officials, a 90,000 gallon-a-day sewage treatment facility, 250,000 gallons of stored water along with a pond supplied by natural springs, a crematorium, office buildings and several other amenities. It also houses replicas of several Federal offices and agencies, a Post Office and a branch of the Federal Reserve. It has also been reported that there is a division of the World Bank located there. It seems as though they have gone to extraordinary measures to ensure the security of not only the federally run programs, but private ones as well. The fact that our government officials have places they can be rushed off to for safety in the event of a national emergency isn’t the problem, although, seeing as how they are preserving evil, it is rather bothersome. It’s the fact that billions of dollars have been spent on this and similar shelters and nothing has been done for the people who foot the bill - the American citizen. Another disturbing aspect of FEMA and their underground lair is the fact that they keep a list of 10,000 or so people of “great importance” that get to share in the comfort of these safe-havens and again, American citizens are of no importance. We just participate in the slave labor that funds these hide-a-ways. In 1975 a Senate Sub Committee, led by Senator John Tunney, discovered the facility held dossiers on at least 100,000 American citizens. It was also alleged that the super computers at the facility could acquire millions of pieces of information about the private lives of citizens by simply accessing the massive databases throughout the underground network of FEMA facilities across the US. If that were the case in 1975, think about the possibilities now. With the new Total Information Awareness system and the numerous methods of information gathering that is at the disposal of these degenerates, God only knows what kind of constitutional violations they are up to. Of course this is all for our own good. One thing is for sure, while they are down there playing their little war games and preparing for a smooth transition into full blown tyranny, we are stuck in the real world dealing with the problems they create and preparing for the next wave of terror that is sure to be released on us. When the time comes and a “national emergency” is declared, our leaders will run and hide and FEMA will send out it’s henchmen, the Multi Jurisdictional Task Force (MJTF), and they will begin to do their job, which is to take control of the population, disarm us and destroy any sort of rebellion or anti-government opposition. They will also, for the good of the people, go door to door and according to Title 50 War and National Defense, section 2072, come for our stored supplies. Title 50 was suppose to expire in 1998, but when Bill Clinton implemented Executive Order #13083 the “Federalist Order”, which give the Federal Government power over the states during national emergencies, and #12919, Title 50 and it’s contents became part of these EOs. According to Executive Order #11051 during a time of National Emergency FEMA has the power to order the National Guard, military, police or whomever to confiscate “hoarded” food, water, medical supplies and anything else they deem to be unnecessarily stored or useful to the “needy”. Other Executive Orders Clinton grouped together under EO #12919 are #s10995, 10997-11005 and as previously stated, 11051. Together these EOs list things to be confiscated, for instance; all communication media in the US, all electrical power, fuels, farms and farming equipment, airports and aircraft, houses, finances and of course, people for work forces under federal supervision who also can be relocated to anywhere our government desires (this particular Executive Order, formerly EO #11004 seems to be the most frightening, but not by much), but remember, this is for the “good” of the people. Basically, FEMA’s henchmen, according to the Executive Orders, can come to our homes and take what they want, separate our families and “relocate” anyone they wish to anywhere they wish so long as a national emergency has been declared. Equally as frightening is that once FEMA takes over there are no documents that say the US Constitution will ever have to be restored, which leads to the conclusion that the US will most likely become a communist state once all the smoke has cleared. There is a lot more going on in these Executive Orders and I urge you to check it out for yourself. The more knowledgeable we are about what they are trying to do, the easier it will be to stop them when the time comes.

BUSH BUILDING A NEW WORLD ORDER SAYS UCO OFFICIAL................ UCO official sees changing U.S. role 2003-01-16 By Karen Klinka The Oklahoman http://www.newsok.com/cgi-bin/show_article?ID=973641&pic=none&TP=getarticle
EDMOND -- A possible war with Iraq is more about the United States' new role in the world than it is about weapons of mass destruction or the dictatorship of Saddam Hussein, says a University of Central Oklahoma official who's also a longtime consultant to the United Nations on Middle Eastern affairs. Don Betz, whose academic specialty is international political relations, has worked for -- and with -- the United Nations in various capacities related to the Middle East since 1982. Betz also wears three hats at UCO: provost, vice president for academic affairs and professor of political science. Betz contends President Bush is proceeding to build the New World Order that his father, former President Bush, talked about in 1989. "The first President Bush was just 10 years too early in his thinking," Betz said in a recent interview. "What we're seeing now is a New World Order being built around the United States. "We're the new Rome," he added, "and we're in the process of deciding what responsibilities the U.S. will have in this new emerging world system." For the foreseeable future, the United States will play the pivotal role in deciding how to address some of the world's most pressing issues in the strategic, political, economic, human rights and environmental arenas, Betz said. "The challenge for our nation is to be both powerful and wise," he added. Among Betz's duties at the United Nations was the creation of an important nongovernmental organization network pursuing peace in the Middle East. From 1982 through 1984, he served with the United Nations as political and liaison officer focusing on the question of Palestine. After leaving the United Nations, Betz spearheaded the establishment and development of the International Coordinating Committee for Nongovernmental Organizations on the Question of Palestine, a representative council that has served as an important connection between the U.N. and private agencies worldwide active on Middle East peace issues. He served as chairman of the international committee from 1985 to 2002.
