Stupid Republicans -- From Bad to Worse
By David Codrea
codrea4@adelphia.net

December 22, 2002

Keepandbeararms.com -- A Washington Post report claims "Sen. [Bill] Frist Emerges as Potential Lott Successor... the second-term Tennessean issued a statement saying he would 'likely step forward' if Republicans decided they want Trent Lott of Mississippi to step down..."

What does that mean for gun owners?

Simply that they will be replacing one oathbreaker with another - and one with a worse record on guns. According to Gun Owners of America's Senate ratings, Lott came in with a shameful "C-". Frist merits an abominable "D," despite an "Archives of Surgery" report claiming he "has accepted substantial campaign contributions from the National Rifle Association." (According to Common Cause, the NRA gave Frist over $177,000 in 1989-1999.)

Among Frist's actions that resulted in his abysmal GOA score?

Helping kill the filibuster on the Shays-Meehan Incumbent Protection bill, a sham "campaign finance reform" measure "which squelches the voice of pro-gun organizations."

Voting "AGAINST the Smith filibuster and in favor of sending the [Gore-Lautenberg] anti-gun crime bill to a House-Senate conference committee."

Being one of "the Republicans who betrayed gun owners and voted for the anti-gun crime bill (S. 254)..."

Joining other stupid Republicans who "retreated and gave up significant 2nd Amendment ground. On two separate occasions, scores of Republicans crossed party lines to support gun control proposals."

Voting "to confirm anti-gun Dr. David Satcher as the next Surgeon General...[and] liberal, judicial activist (Ms. Margaret Morrow) a seat on the federal bench..."

Voting against the interests of gun owners on these key issues:

"Government wiretapping of innocent citizens and gun owners"; "Anti-gun terror bill"; "Anti-gun terror bill -- final passage"; "Lautenberg Domestic Confiscation Gun Ban"; "Kohl 'Gun Free Zones' Ban"

Memo to stupid Republicans: Time and again, gun owners have handed you victory. Yet time and again you betray us, figuring we have no choice but to support the lesser of two evils. Enough of us have wised up to you and refuse to play this game any longer. Continued betrayal of your oath of office and of the Constitution will no longer be tolerated-- and there are enough of us who are enraged by your infidelity to deny you that critical margin of a percentage point or two by which most elections are won.

RON PAUL PROPOSES FULL RESTORATION OF 2ND AMENDMENT RIGHTS IN OPPOSITION TO NWO CONTROLLED BUSH ADMINISTRATION

HON. RON PAUL OF TEXAS
IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
January 9, 2003

Restoring the Second Amendment

Mr. Speaker, I rise to restore the right the founding fathers saw as the guarantee of every other right by introducing the Second Amendment Protection Act. This legislation reverses the steady erosion of the right to keep and bear arms by repealing unconstitutional laws that allow power-hungry federal bureaucrats to restrict the rights of law-abiding gun owners.

Specifically, my legislation repeals the five-day waiting period and the "instant" background check, which enables the federal government to compile a database of every gun owner in America. My legislation also repeals the misnamed ban on "semi-automatic" weapons, which bans entire class of firearms for no conceivable reason beside the desire of demagogic politicians to appear tough on crime. Finally, my bill amends the Gun Control Act of 1968 by deleting the "sporting purposes" test, which allows the Treasury Secretary to infringe on second amendment rights by classifying a firearm (handgun, rifle, shotgun) as a "destructive device" simply because the Secretary believes the gun to be "non-sporting."

Thomas Jefferson said "The constitutions of most of our States assert that all power is inherent in the people; ...that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed." Jefferson, and all of the Founders, would be horrified by the proliferation of unconstitutional legislation that prevents law-abiding Americans form exercising their right and duty to keep and bear arms. I hope my colleagues will join me in upholding the Founders' vision for a free society by cosponsoring the Second Amendment Restoration Act.

Technology being tested to detect and report gunshots

By LINDA ROSENCRANCE
JANUARY 14, 2003

Content Type: Story
Source: Computerworld
http://www.computerworld.com/mobiletopics/mobile/technology/story/0,10801,77554,00.html

A New Orleans-based company is developing technology that it said could provide law enforcement authorities with the precise details of gunshots -- including the type of gun used, number of shots fired and the exact location from which the shots were fired.

The company, Proxity Digital Networks Inc., said in a statement today that its detection system uses a network of wireless acoustic sensors and a combination of the Global Positioning System (GPS) and patent-pending time stamp technology.

Once captured by the On Alert Gunshot Detection System (GDS), the gunshot information can be immediately transferred to dispatch offices or directly to the police via handheld devices -- allowing authorities to respond quickly to a shooting incident.

Proxity said the technology could also be used to monitor movements and sounds around railways, ports and national borders, "since every sound, including walking, movement through water or vibrations on the ground, could be programmed into the GDS detection system."

The company said it's currently conducting first-stage development and testing in Oklahoma. Second-generation prototypes are set for beta testing this quarter.

Once all field tests are concluded and a commercial production model is released, On Alert GDS will be available to federal, state and local governments. A military version is also being designed, the company said.

"It is our goal to be able to monitor any area using the On Alert GDS," said William Robinson, CEO of Proxity Digital Networks. "Unlike competitive systems that require precise locating of sensors, On Alert GDS is developing an acoustical wave technology that will allow for quick installation and a more random layout of grids and the use of the terrain to detect and transmit events.

"We anticipate cities and organizations [will] implement the system as a standby monitoring device that can be rapidly installed in a variety of locations based on circumstances and needs," Robinson said.

hmmm I'm trying to figure out what the bush administration has to do with these post...oh yeah...NOTHING !

Bush's own words on gun control....

On the issue of gun control, Bush says existing laws must be enforced more stringently, and is on record as supporting background checks at gun shows.

"It is important for the next adminstration to do the right thing, enforce laws that are on the books, federal laws," Bush said Thursday.

Bush has said that the constitutional right of Americans to own guns must be maintained, but he supports the current ban on automatic weapons, and has called for a ban on high-capacity ammunition clips that may be used with semi-automatic weapons which are legal to own.

Bush opposes calls for a large scale, government-mandated gun registration effort.

you wouldn't know what the constitution says if jefferson came back and read it to you a hundred times...

Each individual of the society has a right to be protected by it in the enjoyment of his life, liberty, and property, according to standing laws. He is obliged, consequently, to contribute his share to the expense of this protection; and to give his personal service, or an equivalent, when necessary. But no part of the property of any individual can, with justice, be taken from him, or applied to public uses, without his own consent, or that of the representative body of the people. In fine, the people of this commonwealth are not controllable by any other laws than those to which their constitutional representative body have given their consent.

What is your point in posting that?

You never served in the military.

Unconstitutional Property confiscation happens every day in America.

Everyone has to pay taxes or go to jail.

As long as you support BUSH and CO. You are stepping all over the Constitution.

MORE EXAMPLES OF CONSTITUTIONAL VIOLATIONS

Md. Police: Disabled Man Has 'No Good Reason' For Handgun
By Jeff Johnson
CNSNews.com Congressional Bureau Chief
January 20, 2003

Capitol Hill (CNSNews.com) - The State of Maryland has denied a physically disabled citizen a permit to carry a concealed handgun because he does not have a "good and substantial reason" to be armed.

Dan Sullivan worked as an emergency trauma nurse before muscular dystrophy severely limited the use of his legs. He can now walk only with the assistance of two canes.

What Sullivan calls his "visually obvious physical disability" makes him an attractive target for criminals, he believes. It also makes it almost impossible for him to flee or physically defend himself from an assault. Despite those facts, Sullivan was denied a concealed handgun permit by the Maryland State Police.

"Maybe I need to go get a prescription at night, and I'm leery about going out at night because I can't run away from the criminals," Sullivan explained. "The elected officials seem to have very little concern for the safety of the disabled, you know. We're not a real concern to them."

Police in Maryland require that concealed handgun permit applicants who seek the permit for personal protection provide "documented evidence of recent threats and/or assaults, supported by police reports and/or notarized statements."

Erich Pratt, spokesman for Gun Owners of America, called the requirement "ridiculous."

"People may die getting all of this documentation," Pratt said. "That's just crazy."

Sullivan said the prerequisite led him to ask state officials what he believed was an obvious question.

"Exactly what type and how many threats and assaults have to be endured before one would qualify?" he asked.

The state police licensing division told Sullivan he could appeal its determination to the Handgun Permit Review Board, which he has done. Two Maryland politicians were somewhat more responsive to Sullivan's inquiry.

"It is disturbing to think there are citizens who feel that they have to remain confined in their homes because it is not safe to be on the street," wrote Maryland Senate President Mike Miller (D). "However, I am not sure that carrying a weapon is the solution to that problem."

Miller offered no alternative solution, other than to refer Sullivan's letter to someone else. Former Maryland Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend (D), who lost her bid for governor in November 2002, agreed with Miller on both counts.

"It is disturbing that some of our disabled citizens fear they will be attacked because of their disability if they leave their homes," Townsend wrote. "But I also agree with Senator Miller that allowing these same citizens to carry concealed weapons simply because they are disabled is not the answer to the problem."

Pratt was appalled at both letters.

"How callous for people who have police protection themselves throughout most of the day to say to an average citizen, 'You don't need to have a gun to defend yourself,'" he said.

"These would be atrocious letters written to anybody, but it's made worse by the fact that here's a guy who can barely walk," Pratt continued. "To tell him that he can't protect himself basically says that he will have to stay at home."

But Pratt added that, based on the vehement anti-Second Amendment records of both Townsend and Miller, he's not surprised by the content of the letters.

"It's elitist. It's callous. And obviously," Pratt concluded, "it's written by people who don't care whether this man lives or dies."

CNSNews.com asked Maryland Assistant Attorney General Mark Bowen, who works with the state police, to explain the criteria to meet the requirement that a citizen have a "good and substantial reason" to obtain a concealed handgun permit.

"To the best of my knowledge, there aren't any," Bowen said. "It turns out to be whatever's accepted by the Handgun Review Board as acceptable. And again, there is no specific list of what that constitutes."

Sullivan said he feels caught between the criminals and the police, an uncomfortable place to be in a state with one of the highest violent crime rates in the country.

"The police aren't responsible for our safety," Sullivan said, referring to both Maryland and U.S. Supreme Court decisions that police cannot be sued for failing to protect a citizen from criminals. "Yet the state is denying us our own ability to protect and defend ourselves. I think that's a significant problem."

The Maryland Handgun Permit Review Board will review Sullivan's application appeal Feb. 5.
