“They say the elected representatives of the people voted for this war, “shouted Brian Becker, the Co-Director of the International Action Center and A.N.S.W.E.R. “Did anybody ask you to vote?" he asked the crowd protesting war with Iraq.

Well, yeah, Brian. They are asked the first Tuesday in November every year. In fact, Becker, they are going to be asked again in a couple of days now.

“No,” Becker continued, “ExxonMobil and Enron, and voted for this war. This is corporate democracy.”

I don’t know about that. Hell, no corporation ever asked or told me, or anyone I know, whom or what to vote for. Even when I worked for a corporation — which thankfully I no longer do — I was never told whom to vote for. And if Becker means that corporations can control the people by some subliminal, nefarious means because they control the media, then how is it I was able to listen to him?

However, the most important question is — who the hell voted for Brian Becker?

After all, Becker asked what has to be one of the most ludicrous questions I ever heard when he asked the crowd if they were ever asked to vote. Of course, it is understandable that Becker is confused about the electoral process in the United States of America. This is a guy who believes that North Korea and Iraq are paragons of democracy. This is a guy who routinely visits North Korea and Iraq and consults with those dictatorships.

Indeed, among the assembled multitudes that applauded Brian Becker, how many knew what he represents? He was introduced as the Director of the International Action Center (IAC) and Act Now to Stop War and End Racism (ANSWER) the organization that planned this protest. However, how many of those marchers knew that Becker is a member of the secretariat of the Workers World Party? How many knew that the Workers World Party is an admirer of two of the most egregious mass murderers of modernity — Kim Il Sung and Saddam Hussein? How many of those in the crowd knew that the Stalinist, genocide worshiping, Workers World Party is the organization that operates ANSWER and IAC?

The crowd itself was characteristic of the people George Orwell referred to when he wrote over a half a century ago that, “there is a minority of intellectual pacifists whose real though unadmitted motive appears to be hatred of western democracy and admiration of totalitarianism. Pacifist propaganda usually boils down to saying that one side is as bad as the other, but if one looks closely at the writings of younger intellectual pacifists, one finds that they do not by any means express impartial disapproval but are directed almost entirely against Britain and the United States.” The protesters seemed to be similar to George Bernard Shaw, who was once quoted as replying when asked, what Britons should do if the Nazis crossed the channel into Britain, the playwright replied, "Welcome them as tourists."

Essentially, the protesters seemed to be clueless.

The various speakers kept telling the protesters, that they — the protesters — were the only ones who were concerned about the plight of the innocent. They told the crowd that they were the only ones who were concerned about justice. In other words, they are the self-righteous.

The speakers, luminaries such as IAC founder Ramsey Clark, Cynthia McKinney, Jesse Jackson, and Al Sharpton, seemed pleased to be leading this protest. They reminded me of emperors addressing their courtiers.

Clark, in particular is a megalomaniac. He feels that his organization (IAC) could be a people’s United Nations. Imagine according to Ramsey Clark, it is not the United Nations that will be the authority. No, it will be his organization that will be the ultimate authority. Clark obviously has delusions of grandeur. However, Clark was not unique. All of the speakers at the rally possessed this sense of self-importance.

The beneficiary of the rhetoric by Jackson, Sharpton, Clark, et al., if there is any benefit, will be the Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein. Yes, the protests of October 26 were in the interest of those will benefit from discrediting the government of the United States-especially the current president.

As I said before liberals are the self-righteous, led by the self-important for the benefit of the self-interested.

Report: Iraqi spies in U.S.

WASHINGTON - Iraq sent spies from Canada to New York and Washington this month to snoop and stir up anti-war demonstrations, according to a government report obtained by the Daily News.

The classified document also reveals a plot by Al Qaeda-linked militants in Zimbabwe to attack American targets in that country and elsewhere if the U.S. declares war on Iraq.

It suggests the group, Tablik Ja'maat, could be a "conduit for communication" between Osama Bin Laden's terror network and Iraqi leaders.

The threats, disclosed to U.S. spy agencies yesterday, are detailed in a secret report prepared by an intelligence unit in the Homeland Security Department.

It comes as the White House weighs the release of classified information to prove Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein's links to Al Qaeda and efforts to evade UN weapons inspectors.

A source identified as a member of the Iraqi opposition told U.S. agents that Iraqis in Canada were ordered to recruit Arabs and other foreigners for espionage missions in the U.S., the report said.

The Iraqi Embassy in Ottawa sent operatives to New York and Washington with instructions to "intensify spying activities and to carry out anti-U.S. demonstrations to stop a war against Iraq," the report said.

The report said the Iraqis were willing to spend "large sums" to back the effort.

The report also describes a plot by Tablik Ja'maat to carry out "coordinated attacks" against U.S targets in Zimbabwe if war is declared on Iraq. Other attacks, revealed by the group's leader at a Jan. 18 meeting at a mosque in Harare, would take place in Pakistan, Indonesia, Nigeria, Turkey, South Africa and Israel, the report said.

An Associated Press report last week said that the FBI is looking to question as many as 50,000 Iraqis living in the U.S. to root out potential spies and terror cells.
