I saw Floyd on the Momentry Lapse tour back in the late 80's. They had "flying" light bars and laser systems, an inflatable pig, and a flying bed that crashed into to the stage.

Dave Gilmour was amsome..they opened up with "Shine on" They had this huge mirror ball and they shone lights on it. Very trippy.

When I saw Hawkwind...all of their Amplifiers were painted up to look like totem poles in flourecent colors. The backdrop was a changing screen with images of Hawaii and tropical scenes and stuff like that. They had this spinning light that looked like it was a cutting wheel. I was looking around during the show at people and their mouths were dropping and drooling. I'll never forget it.

We need more music like this now. Imaginative music and visuals have all but disappeared and been replace by "attitude". It seems like the music industry, like other media, has figured out how to put a damper on creativity. From the 60's until the mid-80's, music was fun and inspiring. Now I'm talking POP music. Avant Garde will always be cutting edge. When we were growing up we had inspirations like Bill Haley, Miles Davis, Floyd, Genesis, Gentle Giant, Beatles, Yes, King Crimson, Moody Blues, Lene Lovich, Yello, The Residents, DEVO, The Fixx, on and on. That's because in the 50's, we had music class every day. Now, music is a non-issue with schools. Being involved with music for 45 years, I can tell you most people now aren't inspired to be the best they can, but what will make the most money. I do audio engineering as a second job, and I'll tell you this, they need to tune their guitars and learn to play. My band Noble Gas opened up for Smashing Pumpkins in 1994. Now I don't know whether you like them or not, but they literally couldn't tune their instruments nor sing in tune.

Speaking of The Residents, they literally started independent music in 1969. I saw them November in Brooklyn. They have turned down major deals to keep their independence. Zappa loved them.

Sorry...it's not a "Conspiracy"..it's REALITY.

PROVE that i'm wrong.

It's a shame you can't see the difference.

Swamp....Some pics of Hawkwind from that same tour.

Speaking of King Crimson...They are touring this year and have a new CD coming out.

Rush's latest.."Vapor trails" is pretty good...they 're going in a "industrial" sound direction.

Ramble,
I saw Dread Zeppelin at the Dirt Club, Bloomfield, NJ around 1990. They were hysterical and funny, but I wasn't overly impressed by the musicianship. Oh well, sometimes entertainment is like that.

I also saw Led Zeppelin the first time they played in America, opening for Iron Butterfly at The Fillmore East, Early 1969. Now Zeppelin was incredible, but I thought Butterfly were more cohesive, more ensemble-like.

Conspiracy Crap! Is that like Coincidence Crap?

Already have...YOU need to do your homework and look around CTC. 90% of what I post is backed up with hyperlinks to news articles...FACTS. 10% is opinion and speculation.

I won't SPOONFEED it to you. Been there, done that.

I missread the King and thought I saw Kind. My mistake. Have you picked up the lattest Rush CD released on Tuesday? Its "some" of their hits when they where with Mercury Records. Some good tunes, but alot was left out. A good board to go to is myfavoriteheadache.com. It has a lot of Geddy Lee and Rush fans there.

Yep,
Hawkwind, always spacey. Love the esoteric fabric on the keys. Did you ever hear of another one of Hawkwind's influences, Amon Duul? German space rock, but pre-dates Hawkwind by 2 years.

Speaking of King Crimson, I also saw them in 1969 at the Fillmore. Greg Lake on Bass and singing, with 2 Mellotrons. They played most of "Court of the Crimson King", and did an encore of "Devil's Triangle" and "Wake of Poseidon" from the second album.

Mech, I didn't tell you, 2 weeks ago I jammed with 2 members from Procol Harum. The keyboardist and bassist. I made a DAT tape of the session. I played a MIDI keyboard and a Mac POwerbook with tons of VST plugins. It's a long story, but the keyboardist wants to move to America with his wife and do programming. He is sick of 36 years of touring. He offered me the job, but I love my band more, and my day gig is very rewarding, so I turned it down. I'm just a man of priciple, what can you say.

There are alot of articles and info. about alot of things. It's about how you interpret it? I try to read everything and see it the way it was meant to be written. I see vapor trails not chemtrails. I've never seen a UFO. I've never seen a ghost. I think we should kick ass before someone kicks ours. I like this board. There IS alot of info here that makes sense and alot that is BS. One more thing, some folks on here can be kinda gruff when driving home their point. You will not make it by pissing people off. Human nature. Sorry to ramble.

I don't talk much about Chemtrails....I DO think they exist but I don't have enough proof. I don't deal with UFO's or "ghosts" either in case you haven't noticed.

My FIGHT is with this ILIGITIMATE, WORLD BANKER ELITIST,GLOBALIST controlled TERRORIST GOVERNMENT...that is RUINING AMERICA.

In case you havent noticed...this country is turning into Russia.

If you don't believe it...I suggest you read the PATRIOT ACT or the newer PATRIOT ACT II.

Ramble,
True, but it works both ways. Why not have an open mind until the signs demonstrate it to be BS or not. When somebody says "Conspiracy Theory Crap", the opposite, "Coincidence Theory Crap" can be said. Since almost none of us are inside the Halls of Power, but get little glimpses of it, all of it is theoretical, even what comes from mainstream media.

In my 54 years on the planet, I have seen a lot, seen behaviour of people that makes me cringe and some that makes me joyous. If you had lived through the 60's would you have gone to Vietnam? It's easy to imagine what one would THINK they'd do, but given the circumstance, you might do what you thought you'd do.

Let's take the death penalty. Conservatives want it, Liberals don't on the average. Now what happens if a liberal has a close friend or relative murdered? All of a sudden, that AVERAGE liberal is for the death penalty. If a Conservative's relative is falsely convicted and executed, you'd see that conservative start being against the death penalty. So it is with chemtrails, NWO, Illuminati, Conspiracies, WTC, Iraq, etc. Until it affects you personally, you'll think from a distance.

Check out this

All sorts of imports, with the full line of obscure Hawkwind. I got some alternate take of "Adjust Me", from one of their discs, which I never heard before. Have Fun!

There is an independent record store nearby here that has 3 floors of Records and CD's. I get all of my music from it. The place is great because they have a table with 10 CD players with headphones for people to try out CD's. They'll shrink wrap the CD again if you don't want to buy it.Whatever they don't have...they can order for you.

Iv'e found all kinds of stuff there. Spent MANY portions of my paycheck there. The guy who owns the place has a bad ass 1938 Indian motorcycle fully restored!

I've had bad experiences with mail order so...

Thanx anyway.

Floyd, ahhhhh Floyd. Lost count of the times I've seen them. Six maybe seven. My personal favorite. Saw Rush a few times too. The only great 70's band I missed was Zep. I finally got to see the No Quarters, Plant and Page tour with live orchestra and accustic mid east percussion and instruments for Kashmir. It was amazing. The bass player was from The Cure. They even covered a Cure tune Spider Man (Plant kicked butt on that!)

Funny, it was the debunker rambleonus that got me going down memory lane with his New Order band comment...that and Mech's awesome choice of midi. What's the topic of this thread again?

Saw them all, The Cure, Lene Lovich, Nina Hagen, UFO, The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, Beatles, Spirit, Tull, UK, Kraftwerk, Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Atomic Rooster, Savoy Brown, ELP, The Nice, Santana, Lothar and the Hand people, The Fixx, Silver Apples, Dave Clark Five, Mitch Ryder, Spencer Davis, traffic, Yes, Le Orme, PFM, on and on.

Kook,
As I said I saw Floyd wayyyy back in 69 at the Fillmore. Dead center, bottom floor, so you got the full effect of the unheard of surround system with Azimuth Coordinator. Gilmore was just new in the band, but I had only heard Esquevel use the guitar in such a galactic fashion. Waters was so eerie to look at and hear. Sound FX, echoes, and everything came out of his bass. Nick Mason was the perpetual timekeeper. He always looked like he was somewhere else. Saucerful of Secrets still amazes me to this day. Rick Wright was always an inspiration. My chops were always on par with his, but when I heard them play, I realized that atmosphere was just as important as the jazz and classical influences I had up to that point. He even had a dual manual Mellotron, ala Genesis, Crimson, and Moody Blues.

Personally, I always liked the pre-Dark Side Floyd. They were just more....trippy, experimental. Now don't get me wrong, there post-Dark Side stuff is great, I just thought they were more commercial. If you had seen them in 69 or 70, with cannabis fumes all over the Fillmore, with Electric Brain, you'd know what I mean. But then again, you probably do anyway...wink..wink..

The only band that compared to Floyd in atmosphere was The Residents. You get a chance, check them out. Very intergrated between visuals and audio.

You guys make me wish I'd kept better records of my whereabouts. The only one I'm truly pea green with envy over is The Doors.

BTW, I saw U2's first US appearance at the Rat in Boston. They warmed up for J-Geils. Peter Wolfe refused to go on and follow them. They played for hours and we tore up the joint. Then they flew back home. WBCN (the big mattress)had a night program called Nocturnal Emissions and was the only one playing I will follow at the time. I was only 14 and had to sneak in. I think Edge and Bono weren't much older. Can you believe they were actually considered a punk band?

You reminded me of the Grateful Dead show in New York 1968 at a hall I can't remember. A girl walked around and sprayed water? on everyone. Of course, the H2O was laced with The Big L. The walls were moving, time going backwards, and I thought we were at a fun house. They played for 6 HOURS!

Mech, I am also impressed by your tastes in music, and concerts attended. The NWO is scared shitless of music, the power to make people emote and/or think. Now, excuse me while I try a total recall. I betcha I'll miss some. This is not an exercise in making the Big Impression, but an exercise is how to keep the memory alert ,besides taking Gingko Biloba, St. John's Wart, and Hydergine. Here goes, forgive me if I repeat, I doing this right off the top of the head:

The Tubes, U2, Gentle Giant, Sex Pistols, Steppenwolf, Pychedlic Furs, Orchestral Manouvres, Quicksilver, Moody Blues, Ultravox, Wall of Voodoo, Oingo Boingo (tried out with them), Procol Harum, Snakefinger, Weather Report, Chick Corea, Molly Hatchet, Goose Creek Symphony, Grand Funk, Bloodrock, Glass Harp, Led Zeppelin, Iron Butterfly, Earth Opera, Graffitti, The Doors, Genesis, UFO, Oregon, Eclectic Mouse, Van Der Graaf Generator, Steve Hackett Band, Yes, King Crimson, ELP, Nice, Tull, UK, The Yardbirds, The Residents, Zappa and the Mothers, Mitch Ryder, Traffic, Love, Vanilla Fudge, the Beatles, The Monkees (Better than you think), Spooky Tooth, Savoy Brown, Atomic Rooster, Dread Zeppelin, Smashing Pumpkins, Dead Elvii, Starcastle, Meat Beat Manifesto, 808 State, DeeLite, Sun Ra, Little Richard, Bill Haley and the Comets, 4 Tops, The Fireflies, Negativland, Art of Noise, Duane Eddy, DEVO, Thomas Dolby, countless classical concerts, and well.....There's more but it sure is fun to have absorbed all this music and translate it.

Kook, I'll tell ya about The Doors. Saw them first in 1967 in NJ, opening for The Jefferson Airplane. Morrison was rather calm and mysterious at this show. I had never heard such ferocious playing by the band. They did the whole first album, and did "Love me 2 times" and "Strange Days" from the second album. The seond time was in 1968, also in NJ. Earth Opera opened for them. EO was incredible, very jazz/classical/rock/avant garde. Saxophones, violins, harmoniums, sitars, gongs, etc. They did a 20 minute piece called, "The Great American Eagle Tragedy". How still appropriate. The Doors were more dark at this show, yet musically more developed. Morrison was screaming a lot at the audience. The encores were from the third album, like "5 to 1", and "Spanish Caravan".

The only one I missed......Jimi....I was sick that night at Madison Square Garden in 1969. All my friends went, so good for them. All in all, I try to bring all these years of playing and listening to this wonderful music, into a Force of Good and Light.

Back to topic a little. This is exactly why the Internet is a threat. People can share information that wouldn't have been possible.

I feel a little guilty like I should be moving this thread over to freeform. Maybe you or Mech will start one over there. Music talk is uplifting and relaxing to keep the spirits up while we fight off the NWO.

Concert suggestions...Fugazi, Sonic Youth (if they're still together), Primus (if they ever get back together)and Red Hot Chili Peppers. I've seen all of these more than once and they've never disappointed.

edited once to add off topic music stuff

Kook...Sonic Youth has a brand new one out..Heard it in a record store where a friend of mine works...he's a big fan. PS: You can move the thread if you want.

Swamp:---" The NWO is scared shitless of music, the power to make people emote and/or think. --"

Yeah...they'd rather keep you in FEAR of a PHONY bio attack and control how you think. Some peopl are so MIND CONTROLLED they actually went out and bought duct tape and Plastic sheets. I'll bet the Bush Regime caused this scare intentionally to see how many people they could get to follow the pied piper off the cliff.

Glad to see you are still seeing through the MOUNTAIN of lies all these years Swamp. It takes a huge effort. So many people from the sixties became the coked out, suv driving, TV brainwashed yuppie monsters we see today buying the plastic sheets and tape. Obviously you remember where you came from. It's a shame to see that things are WORSE now than they were then. You'd think we would have learned some valueable lessons.

Yes Mech,
It's been a long strange trip. Going to my 30 year class reunion was unusual. Some of the former beats and hippies are now lawyers, and chiefs of police. I remember one girl who had a locker next to mine. In my senior year, she brings me over to lock inside of her locker, and there's a pound of weed. Now she denies this ever happening. The same with one of the lawyers. He was on acid, dancing half-naked, and howling at the moon one night back when. Now complete denial. It's incredible! They have trained their minds to block out TRUTH, just as you say, all the SUV yuppies now. Block out your roots, Vietnam, Woodstock, Civil Rights, Cold War, Peace, and The Music. Ther are a few of us left, and I think Bush's hysteria may enough to wake them out of their slumber. I sure hope so! By the way, I always hated cocaine...Look at what it did to Clinton and Bush.
