www.bordc.org Civil rights in america
Tonight at 8:30PM est. This Friday, February 28th, watch Bill Moyers' interview of Nat Hentoff on NOW with Bill Moyers, on PBS.
Many visitors to this web site learned about the grassroots movement to restore civil liberties from articles written by legendary syndicated columnist Nat Hentoff. Hentoff's next book, The War on the Bill of Rights-And the Rising Resistance, examines the growth of organized resistance as more citizens realize their rights are endangered. This Friday, NOW with Bill Moyers airs an interview with Hentoff about civil liberties, in which the longtime civil rights advocate expresses grave concern about the future of democracy since September 11. "While we're fighting against terrorism, we are eroding our own freedoms. What kind of country will we be afterwards?" asks Hentoff. Check local listings for broadcast times or visit http://www.pbs.org/now/sched.html. In New York City, this week's program will air at 8:30 p.m.

Sounds and smells like Fascism to me.While liberals and reds are being blamed by Christians of bringing a Communist manifesto, here's who was spirited into America, backed by Republicans and Cons, to infiltrate our country. Read the blurb about Richard Gehlen. Single-Handedly started the fabrication known as the Cold War. Communists and Nazis running America....Just Great. http://www.mt.net/~watcher/nwonazi.html

Sorry Seeker, can't agree on your observations of Mech or Moyers. The only righties I'm trusting these days are Pat Buchanan, William Safire, and Nat Hentoff (I'm sure I missed a few). They are Traditional Conservatives. Fighting for The Constitution, same as Moyers. If the selling of tapes is the only issue, that's certainly not enough for me to hate the guy.
Seeker, who do you feel is actually fighting to keep The Constitution alive, since sane people on the left and right both agree that Bush, Ashcroft, Cheney, and others are shredding it? They also are going against traditional Conservativism in that this is the largest, most imposing, and spending administration in recent history.

HYPOCRICY in action AGAIN.I'm not the biggest fan of PBS because I think they are somewhat controlled by the the big foundations who sponsor them ..BUT. At the same time..I see no other programs talking about the hard questions concerning civil liberties like Moyers has. Exept public access cable and sat. Seeker thinks is perfectly okay for FOX, NBC, and CBS to take in billions of dollars of corporate funding to keep them afloat... ..but perfectly okay with public televisions funding getting slashed...yet complaining when public TV tries to make up the difference by offering products. Ah yes..the HYPOCRICY of it all.

Ya know Mech, for someone who hates television and says he watches none you sure do seem to have a lot of info on TV shows and news items from television. Oh Mech, why why why do you LIE. As far as credibility, in my eyes you have NONE. In my eyes you are wasting air we all need to live. YOU SIR ARE A MOUTH BREATHER. ( my way of calling someone an idiot at work without getting in trouble ) You can't get enough oxygen breathing normally through your nose with your mouth shut to keep your brain active. The lack of oxygen has obviously distorted your view of the world and the country you live in. I'm sure you are going to respond with a lot of cutting and pasting of links and articles proving your point but ya know what? It dosen't mean a thing to me. The credibility is shot, you are wasting time.

I read everyone of your posts with interest.I have sinus problems which are worse at some seasons and aggravated by a history of fights (martial arts/ golden gloves/military service) which caused my nose to be broken several times. I sincerely wish we worked at the same place and you could call ME 'to my face' a mouth breather. I could then demonstrate how a 'proud' service connected Liberal disabled Nam 'Veteran' is still able to make a point. I disagree with Mech at times (and he disagrees with me often) but he posts more truth than most. BJM never posted one single truthful statement in the months I've read this forum. Making things personal reminds me of the techniques used by PR professionals. Fortunately, you are not IMHO professional grade. So I make no allegations. Sorry Mech, i know you don't want me on your side. I'll make up for it by disagreeing elsewhere. (as usual)

Anybody who listens to and enjoys Zappa, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Ani Difranco, and Emerson Lake and Palmer is NOT an idiot. The music a person listens to tells a lot about their intelligence. Like Shatoga and Mech, I am a "veteran" of sorts, music, video, the 60's and 50's that is. Seeker, how is it possible a "lying idiot" could have such tastes? I am NOT making apologies for defending Mech. As I've said before, I enjoy the conversations. with him. I just wish you two could bury the hatchet (not in each other's head) and JUST DISAGREE RESPECTFULLY.
BTW, I am glad BJM is gone. Now that was/is a truly hateful person (not an idiot), very vitriolic.

They aren't truthseeking or sharing...that's for sure. Seeker...what can I say exept you and I see things 180 degrees different. Most likely there is NO changing that either. I'll let people reading this thread figure out where the REAL truth is. PS: Watch your own back Seeker..because I'm certainly NOT on your side...let me make that CRYSTAL clear.

NPR, PBS going out of business? By Dr. D. Bunk http://www.cnet.com/techtrends/0-7311128-8-7312877-1.html Have you heard the news? The NEA, NPR, and PBS are going out of business because Congress has cut their financing. Well, that's what a petition has been saying since 1995, and it has been winding its way through the Internet ever since, all the while gathering more and more signatures. Although the e-mail claims the petition will end up on the president and vice president of the United States' desks, it is not true. The e-mail petition is only a cruel Internet hoax. According to a statement on the University of Northern Colorado's Web site, the e-mail petition was started five years ago by two well-meaning students who became concerned that NEA (National Endowment for the Arts) cutbacks and congressional whittling away of PBS (Public Broadcasting System) and NPR (National Public Radio) funding would finally lead to their demise. Their concern took the form of this anonymous e-mail chain letter. Cutbacks have happened, but these organizations have found ways to survive. According to the CIAC, a Web site sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy that monitors hoaxes online, the two students were reprimanded for starting the chain letter. Even if the petition is false, the message has a ring of truth, which is why it's such a cruel hoax. ************************************************************** Federal financing of PBS, NPR, and the NEA has fallen over the years, ****************************************************************** but the petition's doomsday message is, at the very least, overblown. **************************************************************** According to Jeffery Dvorkin, the ombudsman (independent auditor) at NPR ,the organization receives less than 2 percent of its budget from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the federal government's funding agency for public broadcasting. The rest is from state and local governments, corporate underwriters and, of course, listeners like you.(Mech: IE CONTRIBUTIONS AND "VIDEOTAPES") ************************************************************* ****************** On the other hand, according to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting's (CPB) Web site, the entire public broadcasting industry, both radio and TV, receives less than half of its financing from federal, state, and local government sources. In 1997, only 13 percent (or $250 million) came from the federal government. The FAQ states that since 1995, when the e-mail first originated, Congress has cut CPB funding by $100 million--or almost half. The NEA has also seen its financing cut back. Since 1995, when a young crop of conservative Republicans led by Newt Gingrich took control of Congress, NEA funding has been slashed. According to the NEA, government funding was cut by almost half from 1994 to 1998. In 1994, NEA funding stood at $170 million; by the beginning of 1998 it was close to $85 million. Just to give you a sense of comparison, according to an NEA graph, total federal, state, and local government spending on the arts in the United States in 1999 equaled about $6 per citizen. That's the LOWEST ON THE LIST. The next one up is Ireland, which spends $9 per person. To put that in context, Ireland's gross domestic product (GDP) as of 1998 was $68 billion, while the U.S. GDP for the same year was $8.5 trillion. Finland is at the top of the list, spending $91 per person on the arts with a GDP of almost $100 billion. The moral of this story is to be highly suspicious of e-mail chain letters, even if they seem to reflect a real problem or issue such as this one does. They are the armchair activist's conscience Band-Aid—just sit, click, and feel good about yourself. Unfortunately, e-mail petitions and chain letters just don't work. They waste valuable Internet resources and annoy those who receive them. So when you get an e-mail petition claiming to cure all of the worlds' ills, you have yourself a classic Internet hoax. Yours truly, Dr. D. Bunk, e-hoax specialist ______________________________________________________________ Nah...but OMG how dare PBS offer videos after their budgets are slashed! How dare they! As a member of the narrow, unrepresentative elite group that has spent hundreds of millions of dollars over the last decade trying to ram leftist propaganda down the throats of unsuspecting millions, Moyers and his friends have betrayed the citizens of this country in their battle to advance an anti-capitalist, anti-American agenda so wicked that the "citizens" Moyers refers to would surely reject it outright if they knew the truth.

shatoga: I have the utmost respect for veterans. In no way did I mean to disrespect you or anyone else who has sinus problems. I guess I'm gonna have to refrain from bringing work sayings into this forum as people here don't understand. If you took it personally, then I apologize to you.Mech: I certainly am not trolling here. I want to see the truth. I research for the truth. Most of what I see you cut and paste here may be published on the net, but are you seeking the truth ever? I lump people like Alex Jones, Bill Moyer, Jerry Springer, etc. into one group of people, they are out there for one thing and one thing only, MONEY. They will do anything for it and a lot of people fall for it and buy into it. They don't care about the truth. Truth is after 9/11, we are gonna lose some liberties. The way the United States is going about it is fine with me. I say check everyone out. If you have nothing to hide then there should be no problems. If they ( the Government ) pushes to far then I know the people of this great land will push back with a vengence. I support America and all Americans and will take up arms against all who try and tread on us. I will continue to seek the truth about what this forum was all started about, Chemtrails and am calling upon all my resources in healthcare to try and hash this out. I still don't believe in them but you never know.
Bottom line Mech, you like to stir shit as much as anyone else, only you seem to like to bash this country, our military and our government. I'm offended by that. You can spout off all you want about your first amendment rights and thats ok, but I am one American who is tired of seeing you bash America and contradicting yourself on just about every post. That's why you have NO credibility in my eyes.

A little country bashing from this veteran who joined Vietnam Veterans Against the War within months of my discharge. (and feel I served my country by counseling draft dodgers and deserters to give themselves up as I cut deals for them. Some other 'bashers' said: "To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American Public." - Theodore Roosevelt "Here in America we are descended in blood and in spirit from revolutionists and rebels - men and women who dare to dissent from accepted doctrine. As their heirs, we may never confuse honest dissent with disloyal subversion." - Dwight D. Eisenhower Seems to me we could all disagree with each other and show respect for freedom of speech, both at the same time. From Catch-22: the greatest American novel of all time! (IMHO) "Morale was deteriorating and it was all Yossarian's fault. The country was in peril; he was jeopardizing his traditional rights of freedom and independence by daring to exercise them."

I have never said that I never question authority. I question it every day where I work. I question a lot of what has happened to this world lately, and yes I question decisions being made in Washington, but I back the United States 100% in whatever needs to be done in Iraq and N. Korea. These dictators need to be eliminated now to preserve the world, and peace. If you start letting people like this get away with what they are doing we just might see the end of the world as we know it. I don't think there's any more land being made anywhere on this planet, do you? If you look at the pictures from Apollo missions of the Earth, we actually have to all get along here in order to preserve it, it's a small place in the universe. shatoga that's great what you did for the draft dodgers and deserters but I'm gonna have to refrain from comments on what I think of those people who are COWARDS and what should be done to them as I don't want to get banned from this forum.
